So 1/4 mile away roughly from Hana Bay and obviously on the Ocean side because that is how a driver would look down to see a house from the road. Which means she saw his face from the drivers side. Hana is how far past Nahiku? 1/2 hour? Why would he go to Hana after he had taken care of business? Whats in Hana??? Was he thinking of going all the way around the island? Did he see her and think better than to do that? Hmmmm... Great testimony
I don't know Steven's friends that he may or may not have in Hana, but aside from the possibility he is seeing people I/we don't know about, I can only think of taking her body far far from the scene. There are cliffs south of Ohe'o Gulch and probably elsewhere. The ocean around the mouth of Ohe'o Gulch is known for sharks at the river mouth, etc.. OTOH, the entire Hana Highway has spots that are hard to reach and there are closer cliffs. Also the stench at Honomanu on Wednesday indicates some remains in proximity.
Once you get down to Kipahulu, you may as well keep driving, but I don't see the time frame working of getting to Jaws by midnight. It doesn't take 5 minutes from parking to torching, surely.

Saturday 2/8 Morning time, Shelly Tumbaga testifies she does not see any vehicles abandoned on side of Hana. (not sure why Saturday morning matters)
Saturday, 2/8 early evening, Steven tells CK he's going to go to work on a friend’s truck. On way back to Haiku, Brooke and Phaedra checking spots and pull into road to Paraquat's, where they see SC's truck coming out. He says nothing down there,
offers to take them back down, they decline. No smell is reported. Both vehicles proceed to KS Haiku home.
Tuesday 2/11 Later that evening SC is asked by KS to give a timeline. KS allows SC to take Zoey
Tuesday 2/11 9:30 pm Adams Gaines receives info that Charli's truck may have been seen in Keanae. He and Steven drive there. Steven tells Adam he's already search Paraquats (Nuaailua Bay).

(sometime between Monday 2/10 12:45 am and when Charli's 4runner was found Christopher Fanelli, who said he took the tow package and removed the gas tank to reach the fuel pump of a burned Toyota 4Runner at the "Jaws" surf spot area of Peahi in February 2014. He also took the melted tire rims of the 4Runner, which he said was the same one shown in a photograph taken of Scott's vehicle at "Jaws." Fanelli said his friend removed copper wiring from the vehicle. He went to the spot, "looking for anything of value" to sell after getting a call from a mechanic who lives in the Peahi area, Fanelli said.He said said there were no doors when he saw the 4Runner.)

Wednesday 2/12 11:22 am Steven interview 2 with Det Loo
Wednesday 2/12 Afternoon, Kyle Knight smells strong odor near Nuaailua Bay but not near "the path" while driving to search at Nahiku.
Wednesday 2/12 Afternoon, Steven shows up at Nahiku around 4 or 5pm in his 4runner where searchers are. A group decides to go to Jaws to search. SC tells Kyle Knight he needs gas before he heads to Jaws for search.
Wednesday 2/12 Afternoon, Kyle Knight returns to Nuaailua Bay, (despite SC telling him it was searched several times), on his way to Jaws after searching Nahiku with others (because Nala was found there). He repels down a cliff near Nuaailua Bay only to find a hubcap.
Wednesday 2/12 sunset, unbeknownst to searchers heading to Jaws to search, Charli's 4runner had been found earlier torched at Jaws. In March 2014, with $1,900 still owing, Pechin said he repossessed the vehicle from Capobianco, who drove it to Pechin's house. Pechin said he stored the 4Runner at his residence for "less than a week" before "the police took the vehicle for evidence." vehicle had been locked, except for the broken back window, which had a tarp and brick over it, Pechin said. He said items shown in a photograph of the console, including a piece of rope and red pepper spray canister, weren't his.
noted for myself.

Wailua Wayside Park, where Capobianco said he was picked up by the driver of the Toyota Corolla.

The witness, Jennifer Taylor, said that he did not see her, probably because he did not acknowledge her when she put her hand out. But that doesn't mean that he didn't see her. The only person who can say for sure if he saw her or not is Steven Capobianco, and he's a liar. He could have seen her and not acknowledged her, or saw her out of the corner of his eye and it didn't register who she was until later.

What I find infintely more interesting is:
1. that he was in a newer model 4Runner than his own, presumably Charli's 4Runner,
2. That she didn't see anyone else in the 4Runner,
3. That she didn't see any animals in the 4Runner.

As for what he was doing in Hana... we know that he is a drug dealer. Maybe he has a supplier in Hana. JMHO. :cow:
Yes, the corner of the eye works. I think if you are watching someone approach you can see where the eyes go, and a response of recognition or a glance, but it is possible, sure. Getting more drugs is possible too, but weird thing to combine with murder to make a supply run. Why not get it the night before, lol?

I think 1,2,3 are great evidence but none of them surprise me.

Which way was he driving when Jennifer Taylor saw him?
When did Fanelli strip the 4runner?

He was probably high as a kite as well. Im fairly certain he made quick business of Charli which leads me to believe of course it was planned IMHO

But she was stabbed many times, not sure how quick that could be, tons of blood. But mostly agree.

What does high as a kite mean to you guys who say that? I know he smoked pot, but habitual users don't typically get "high as a kite" and function fine when stoned. Did he do ice? Coke?

This new Maui News article on the Hana sighting is a must read. The sheer serendipity of this sighting is incredible. Maui News App put it up right away today, no paywall on the app.

The reasons she had for truly noting Steven as he went by are extremely believable. The thing is (if you have not read it yet), he DID NOT SEE her or know he was seen. This could not have influenced his decision to put himself with Charli for the police; but we still have other reasons.

He now has time to drop Nala in Nahiku if he had a reason to go to Hana, but why was he in Hana? How long a drive from Paraquat's to Hana at night, and how long back? The time frame for sighting is 9:30--11:30, but
Earliest he leaves Haiku is 8:30
the phone pinged Honomanu at 11:00 (I'm rounding off the 4 min).
The fire started at Jaws 12:30.
Can someone make this work out where he's not driving most of the time?

Is an accomplice beginning to manifest out of this jumble of facts?

I like how Rivera is orchestrating the facts layout to a seeming creshendo.

what puzzles me is why Maui News goes into detail about his squared off model vs. her rounded one, but we have nothing about the skull grille at all. With nothing said on that, I tend to think the grille had been pulled. Surely the reporter would mention testimony about the grille. The witness got a clear view of the front of the truck as it approached.

Rivera is building up the suspense to another gotcha moment, hopefully.

Ice is what Im thinking. Cocaine is not so much the violent drug Ice is. (Scarface might beg to differ). Ive dealt with both and the Ice Heads are violent. They wanna fight. When I say quick work I mean he didnt dilly dally. Probably was not a lot of conversation and a decision made. He had his mind made up.

Me too. Go Rivera.

Looking back at MakaniKitty's mention of disorganization, understanding the disorganization is to me key. The FBI classifies killers as either disorganized or organized, but some analysts believe there is a mix. Surprises can cause the dis, and ... accomplices too. Breakdown in communication. I thought you said to do this, no I said do THAT.

Like when I ask a son to pick up milk and he brings something that sounds like but isn't. ;-) Most things I try to direct with other people helping don't turn out half like what I asked for regardless of how clear it was in my mind what should be done.

Ice works. Although I thought Steven was obsessive about health food and his body. People who do ice usually have bad teeth and you can see it in their face and eyes. They age from young to looking old and done for. I've talked to a few over the years. He doesn't show signs of habitual use.
Agree coke is different per se. Does make a person feel powerful and on top of the world. Until it's over, then feel depleted and cravings for more. Meth does that but add psychosis.

We now have an eyewitness in Hana, a 'nose' witness near Peahi giving us a timeline for the arson, and an involuntary accessory who removed the gas tank and the tow package prior to the searchers discovering Charli's 4Runner. This is HUGE! And the phone records will back up the witnesses testimony. This should be a pretty solid case.

I wish the TV news would at least run video of any expression he had during that testimony about seeing him.

Do you understand the bit about the doors of the 4R and the detectives meeting and recovering them? Could not make sense of it.

Oh and remember the grille was recovered with parts ... but not mentioned.
Piece de resistance to reveal the grille's fate?

When? When did this guy see the torched 4runner? when???

Who is good at maps? I would love to see a map of where he was at what times. Anyone up for this challenge?
