remind me where she lives?

ETA: I just remembered that it was O'side right? I think they are far enough north for now. BUT they are warning Camp Pendleton people to prepare to evacuate.

I heard that this is so big it can be seen from space! And on weather maps the ash appears as rain, and obviously there is none of that.
It is amazing more people have not been physically hurt. Thank God!! I think people are taking it very seriously.

Mission Avenue and Old Grove Road. I didn't realize she was below 76. And I get the impression that her husband is with her and their baby. I hope he is and not called out to his base, Camp Pendleton. She really had an awful experience with the Southern Utah fire.

As of 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, residents of De Luz Housing, Serra Mesa Housing, San Luis Rey Housing and O’Neill Housing areas are on notice for possible evacuation.
Erring on the side of caution, Camp Pendleton officials are recommending military members and their families begin to pack personal belongings and plenty of water.
The Provost Marshall and military police will announce an evacuation plan, routes and billeting via a loud speaker when evacuation is imminent.
Military members are encouraged to pack their personal belongings and stay tuned for additional information of available billeting. Military members who have already packed and have developed a safe route to local relatives and friends; on and off base, are authorized to do so at this time.
“Safety is paramount: I urge all residents to take prudent precautions ahead of time. Do not wait to begin to prepare,” said Colonel James B. Seaton III, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Thank you JBean. It's nervewracking to evacuate, but I don't want her to stick around.

wow--1,500 Firefighters, 128 homes destroyed--this is really bad alright--watching the coverage on Fox now----You know, seeing the fires at night, there's a certain "terrible beauty" about it--from a distance it looks like a freaking Volcano! Amazing sight

This situation almost has me looking forward to "winter" and the mud slides that are now on the agenda, if, we get any rain.

And throw in the obligatory earthquake as well!

If the evacuate Pendleton I will be so freaked just at the thought.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Jbean and everyone else, you know our hearts are with you all out there...

I would not wish evacuating on anyone, even if you and your home are safe, it takes awhile for your soul to recover....

I don't understand why Anybody would want to rebuild--Why rebuild the house when all you see around you are blackened hlils?/ when the surrounding area is all dead? there is no green left anywhere--makes no sense

Nice story on Fox how 50 pets were rescued in Malibu by a couple in the middle of the night--They put the animals up in their house, something like 40 dogs and ten cats!--so nice to see people actually care about saving these helpless pets--well done!

I just got caught up......wow, things are just not slowing down are they.

Jelly, thanks for posting the pic of the DC10....I hope it slows things down.

Stay safe all.

It's nice to hear some good news during this terrible tragedy.

The sad thing is that some of the people who live in Scripps Ranch finally finished rebuilding their homes from the 2003 Cedar Fire, and they had to evacuate today too. I'm sure we'll find out whether they lost everything again. But if it were me, I'd relocate.

I have lived in So CA for 40 years, but until 2003 I had never seen such devastation as with the fires 4 years ago and this weekend. I know we're in the middle of a drought, but I don't know what has changed to make the fires so much bigger and more destructive. Too many people living in the back-country maybe?

Yes CaliKid, too many people living in the country.

I've lived here in Diego for 71 years. I have never seen a fire this bad before................ I'm am completely devasted by this. We been told, we've been warned but all of our mountains and back countgry are now filled with new homes, condo's. This is something, combined with the weather, the temperature, the Santa Ana Winds that was waiting to happen!

When I was little girl Poway was just full of farms. Rancho Bernado didn't exist! . That area was mostly occupied by cows. Yep, cows. Nice sweet cows that just mooed~

Years ago, when we went to Los Angeles from San Diego, all you ever saw on the side of the road were Orange Grove after orange grove.

. Dad own a 1936 Chevy, I thought is was soooooooooooo cool to see rows and rows of orange trees. In those days' we never have frozen orange juice, frozen anything for that matter, and dad always bought a whole orange box full of them. We squezzed them by hand. Nothing electric in those day.

My best friend, whose name was Friendly Barstow,............her mom made the best bedside table's out of orange crates... where Friendly could store her clothes.
This was during the 2nd WW. and nobody we knew had very much money.
It was honestly right after the depression.

Okay, I've lived in San Diego for 71 years. I still love San Diego.......but I HATE the growth. I hate driving to Los Angeles, never seeing a hill.........a plain, an old orange grove that hasn't been changed into a housing development.

If we in San Diego had had this horrible raging fire 60 or 70 yrs. ago, there were had been very few evacuations, very few houses burned............because we didn't have the same landscape. Just hills, no houses.

The number of homes destroyed, the families who lost most or all of what they had , the thousands of people staying at refugee centers,...... This is 2007 and we have overbuilt here in California and not only overbuilt but our infrastructure is rotting. It's really as simple as this. Pot holes, sink holes and landslides. WHAT has happened to America?

As I post, Del Mar and Solana Beach are being evacuated. That's 10 min from my house and really hits home.
I lived on the beach in Del Mar. My kids went to Torrey Pines High School. This is just absolutely crazy~

Wow, that was fast. This fire began this morning! I cannot even begin to imagine it crossing I-5. I have lots of friends in the Solano Beach and Encinitas area. At least the ocean will stop the progress.

Dear God, please intervene.
