Another idea is to eat any expensive food you might have in your fridge/freezer now rather than lose it if the power goes out. Steak for dinner tonight! And think about non-perishable food you can have on hand and meals that will be easy and still satisfying. No fun to be eating granola bars for several meals in a row, ykwim? Hard to be creative when hungry so put some thought into it now.

I know this is is basic info, but maybe some first-timers might find it useful.

Watching the forecasts and hoping for the best.

We have two generators as well. We will power our fridge and freezer and we will cordon off one area of the house and use a small window air conditioner to keep it cool. With Irma, we lost power for a week and this is what we did.

Excellent suggestion about cordoning off a room to keep the coolness in that room. We did exactly that too by hanging a blanket with tacks above a hallway opening. Sometimes there is no door to cordone off but you can hang blankets from the ceiling with tacks or small nails to cordone off a room.

Sounds like most here already have it down pat and that is good to hear. :)

I have family in Orlando, Marco Island, Jensen Beach and Naples.

My daughter is also supposed to go to The Rolling Stones concert in Miami on Saturday. It hasn't been postponed/cancelled yet.

So we are all keeping an eye on this storm.

It’d have to be a certain guaranteed direct hit category 20 for me to voluntarily miss TRS in Miami! They’d have to haul me away!:p

Can also freeze large blocks of ice now & stock extra charcoal or propane for the grill. Kept us eatn in style thru several outages.

That is what we do. I plugged in my little chest freezer this morning. Filling 1/2 gallon milk jugs with water. They'll freeze solid and can sit upright in my fridge as ice block, when they melt, we have water. We also precook basic stuff like grilled chicken and homemade mac & cheese in foil pans. Wrap in a couple layers of foil, put on the grill to warm them up.

I have a daughter in Miami and a daughter in West Palm Beach so it's looking like one of them might get a slap in the face from Dorian. Current predictions say it could become a category 3/4 - ugh.

Dorian is now a Category 1 Hurricane, storm forecast to become a major hurricane

The daughter in West Palm has a house guest flying down tomorrow for a visit. He's supposed to go home Monday. Good luck to him, he wants to experience Florida so he may get the full Monty, lol!

Ahh yes the Hurricane diet. I'm familiar with it. ;)

I just filled up my tank because gas stations are already getting low on gas here. Grocery stores are getting bare as well from what I hear.

The Weather Channel has reported that Rolling Stones concert has been bumped to tomorrow night. It's here, too: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/weather/hurricane/article234510647.html

Cantore is headed to Florida, location not disclosed yet...

The Weather Channel confirmed that its star meteorologist, Jim Cantore, is on his way to Florida to cover Hurricane Dorian. The storm is set to make landfall as a category 4 over the Labor Day weekend.

A WTC spokesperson said he will be “on the ground” Friday, but did not give an exact location.

Should his presence make us nervous? Yeah, maybe a little.

Because when others evacuate, that’s the Weather Channel’s meteorologist’s cue to swoop in.

The 55 year old adventurer has been on the scene at almost major storm over the last three decades, so why stop now?
