geevee....did you hear the Mayor say that you could use your electricity (if it is still on) even though your home is flooding?

Morning everyone! This is really, really bad! Weather guy saying Harvey could go back into the Gulf! I hope the water has cooled down. Ocean you predicted it.

Have we heard from BFMD this morning? Sorry for jumping in before reading all the night's posts. So much flooding! I'm just getting a steady drizzle of rain and we're not close to any rivers or creeks! The hummingbirds are draining my feeders dry every day and they start hitting them as soon as it begins to get light! They are under the cover of my front porch and back porch so they can feed without being rained on.

Catastrophic flooding in Houston! Oh man! Watching the rescues of people it just breaks my heart!

BBM:
BFMD checked in @ 9:30 last night and all was going well for the,. lights were on, kids were outside playing. no word yet this morning, so I hope it has stayed calmer for them. Her last post: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...ne-Harvey-August-2017&p=13589078#post13589078

Who else might not have checked in recently?

I hope the flooding stays under control there, Boots. Around here, it takes about 2-3 days when we have had the river overflow into the streets, and that is with a heck of a lot less rain than you have had. our storm drains could not keep up and the water had nowhere else to go after drenching lawns and hikers, etc.

geevee....did you hear the Mayor say that you could use your electricity (if it is still on) even though your home is flooding?

Whaat? That doesn't make sense .... what can I be missing?

Thank you Totesmagoat and Geevee for checking in! I'm hoping BFMD checks in too! I keep seeing people wading waist-high in water trying to escape on the news. I feel helpless in being able to help anyone. We sold our boat several years ago. I've seen damaged schools and churches where people would normally go to seek help and that is depressing!

This picture is incredible!!! Prayers to all affected.

Houston Hit by ‘Catastrophic Flooding’ from Hurricane Harvey, Hundreds Rescued

by Saphora Smith

Hundreds of water rescues were underway in Houston early Sunday, officials said, as torrential rain from deadly Hurricane Harvey caused “catastrophic flooding” in the city and across southeast Texas, the National Hurricane Center said.

“This is a life-threatening situation,” said Michael Palmer, lead meteorologist at the Weather Channel.

As responders rushed to save people from flooded homes and stranded cars, Houston city officials said emergency services were "at capacity" and warned residents to "shelter in place" and not to call 911 unless they were in "imminent danger."

The south side of the city was being deluged by up to six inches of rain every hour overnight, the Office of Emergency Management said...

Does anyone know about Waller? That's where my mom lives. I know she's been on FB. She doesn't always have signal to talk on the phone in normal weather and yesterday the line was crackling like crazy. Her house has started to flood before with less rain and I know her and her husband won't evacuate.

Hold on tight Yellow Rose! Since you're on high ground maybe it will stay above the flooding! Praying for that to happen anyway!

Spell, 2-3 days sounds like a long time! I don't understand about the electricity either! Then again I don't get these reporters standing in ankle-high water holding a microphone. It's scary to see all the electric lines down in water too!

I did speak to my relatives in New Waverly/Willis area. They actually flew into Houston yesterday! Just in the nick of time. They said the winds there aren't high but it is steadily raining.

My daughter lives in Harris County which is about midway between Houston and Galveston. Her home is in a relatively high area. She has a creek behind her house that is now in her back yard and the water has risen in her front yard and only a few feet away from her door. She said there were deer at her back gate so she waded out and opened it to give them a bit of dry land but they ran off.
:(

I haven't heard anything regarding Waller specifically! What a terrible time to have a bad phone connection! I hope you hear from her soon! I'm thankful they still have an internet connection.

Also have an aunt in Pasadena. That area looks like it's getting hit hard!

He said that? Oh my. I think Houston is missing Bill White (mayor during Ike) right about now, his organizational skills during a disaster were fantastic - Turner had days of warning and should have had these centers ready to go, with emergency personnel on stand by - I guess it's easy to pick while in the middle of it but it's not like there wasn't plenty of warning and time to have things ready before everyone was in the soup.

BayouBell maybe the deer will come back? They may not have a choice! How is Louisiana doing? I know they were receiving rain before Harvey.

BayouBell - here's a video of Waller, Texas:

3 tornado warnings currently inside the loop, west of the medical center.

Louisiana is doing well. There is some flooding in west LA, in low lying areas that were evacuated. I'm in south central LA about 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, as a crow flies. We only got about 2-1/2" of rain here.

She's hoping the deer come back and any other critters. I'm just hoping she doesn't want to keep them as pets. :)
