Louisiana is doing well. There is some flooding in west LA, in low lying areas that were evacuated. I'm in south central LA about 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, as a crow flies. We only got about 2-1/2" of rain here.

She's hoping the deer come back and any other critters. I'm just hoping she doesn't want to keep them as pets. :)

LOL! That would be me too. I'd want to bring them in the house!

FEMA spokesman just stated we are gearing up for a stay amounting to years per CTV news

Years. . . Yeah, unfortunately looking at the pictures and videos, I can see years of rebuilding ahead of us!

My heart goes out to all who are affected by this hurricane. It is a very traumatizing situation and I pray you are all safe.
I've just gone through getting my home back after Hurricane Matthew and I've been through so many here including the devastating floods of Hurricane Floyd. Please everyone stay as safe as you can.

I'm worried about Geevee and totesmagoat! Worried about everyone right smack dab in the middle of this catastrophe! I cannot for the life of me imagine having to escape to my roof!

CARIIS do you think the water in the gulf has cooled off? I didn't realize until I read one of your posts that the hurricane actually sucks up the water to the bottom of the ocean if it is hot water!!! I think you said that is the gas that fuels the hurricane?

I am not Cariis of course but this time of the year the temp of the ocean is very warm very close to shore. It is the high temp of the water close to shore that powers this horrendous type of hurricane. That is why Harvey picked up so much steam, and hit the shore as a Cat-4 when it came into the very warm waters. It doesn't have to suck the warm water at the bottom. The deeper the ocean goes the cooler or colder the temp will be. It is picked up billions of warm water which was closer to the surface than the bottom.

Because the temp of the warmer water makes it ripe for strong hurricanes and the greater chance if Harvey is pushed back into the ocean it can come back in again as another hurricane or another devastating tropical depression. :( Many of the weather experts say they have never seen anything quite like Harvey or what it may do before it finally goes away.

And the peek hurricane season isn't even here yet. It usually peeks starting around the 9th of September when the gulf or ocean becomes extremely warm. The weather experts have been saying for over a month now we are going to have a very active hurricane season this year especially in the Gulf and Atlantic.

I don't mean to scare anyone, but everyone there must take this very seriously. I tell all of you this from experience, and because I care deeply about all of you, and everyone in the path of the water monster. It will be like something you have never seen before.

What I am afraid will happen even if people have to get out on their rooftops due to the rising water it may rise so high they cannot stay on their roof anymore or the flood water will touch power lines which may be above some of the homes. :(

When they say this is a life threatening event I hope and pray everyone there believes it to be true and doesn't take reckless steps that not only put themselves/families in grave danger but all of the first responders as well.

My heart, love, hugs, and prayers go out to you sweet Bootsctr and all of our other beloved WS members from the area.

God be with you all!

Warnings are going out to not get up in your attic unless you have a way to cut a hole through to the outside of the roof to escape. Take an ax or other tool to cut through or you could become trapped in the attic.

Watching photos of alligators who are trying to find high ground. Sheriff is asking people to leave them alone. Had a huge problem with gators and snakes following Hurricane Hugo in Charleston.

Ocean Blue Eyes and Lone Traveler, I very much appreciate your words of wisdom that do come from direct experience and surviving!! Ocean, thank you for explaining. I wish the powers-that-be could read your advice! It seems to me, just my opinion, that some did not think Harvey was going to be as bad as he is turning out to be... Sandy, Katrina, Matthew, Floyd.

Just sitting here wringing my hands! It seems all the news people are predicting days more of rain!

For some reason I can't get the link to post using the Tapatalk app, so I'm attaching the screen shot.

NWS announced this about a half-hour ago.
