[h=1]Navy sends more ships in anticipation of Irma[/h]
The Navy says the ships are capable of providing medical support, maritime civil affairs, maritime security, expeditionary logistic support, medium and heavy lift air support, and bring a diverse capability including assessment and security.

Hi CARIIS! You might be thinking of Chris Landsea et al, which suggests that the worst of the damaged areas (Homestead, Cutler Ridge and parts of my neighborhood - Kendall) may have experienced wind gusts of 155 - 201 mph, peak gusts at just over 189 mph, and sustained winds of just over 172 mph:

All I know is that I've never seen such horrific damage as what happened that night. I hope Florida will benefit by the changes in building codes and the introduction of newer hurricane-resistant products since then when Irma hits.

Stay safe lady!

Hi Miss M!

I cant recall if that was him ,. I just remember being fascinated by the projectiles speeds it was a bit like aircraft accident investigation.

Hernando County Shelters:

A mandatory evacuation order for coastal zones A and B, and mobile homes countywide.

Shelters will open at 2 p.m. today for residents in these zones. Go to http://hernandocounty.us/em/documents/maps/8-evacuation-zones-and-routes/file to find the location of your zone.

Here are a list of available shelters:

* Challenger K-8 School of Sciences and Mathematics
13400 Elgin Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34609,
Designated special needs shelter

* D.S. Parrott Middle School
19220 Youth Dr., Brooksville, FL 34601
Designated pet-friendly shelter

* Explorer K-8
10252 Northcliffe Blvd., Spring Hill, 34608

* Hernando High School
700 Bell Ave., Brooksville, 34601, Brooksville, FL 34601

* Nature Coast Technical High School
4057 California St., Spring Hill, FL 34604

There are unconfirmed predictions that up to 3 to 6 feet of storm surge could be expected along Hernando County coastline on Sunday and Monday.

During Hurricane Hermine, Hernando only saw a maximum of 5’ of surge. In addition to the expected storm surge, weather experts say this area could experience hurricane force winds, between 80 and 90 mph.

Tips for shelter residents

* Bring identification.

* Eat prior to arrival. The first meal will be dinner.

* Bring air mattress or sleeping bag, cots will not be provided.

* Bring medicines, blanket/sheet, snacks, water and personal hygiene products.

* Call the special needs registry at (352) 754-4083 to request transportation

* Make every effort to carpool due to limited parking at schools.

Greetings from Puerto Rico! Hugo reached all the way up there? wow. Hugo is still remembered here in Puerto Rico as one of the most destructive hurricanes even though it did not hit half of the country.

About Irma, we're ok. We almost got hit by the eye, but the last hour it went up in latitude.

new run out cat 5 MSNBC

http://streamfare.com/msnbc.html

actually a 5 mph increase

Miami out of cone Lauderdale out W palm beach out

Keys likely cat 4 landfall

Tampa more in deal now

East coast Fl still gonna have storm surge issues rotation is in the the 9 -3 (clock) zone -- called the dirty part of the storm

same would be true here Orlando but the futher south she actual landfalls things change the quicker ( southern) the eye gets on land later on the better

the number of cranes in miami are about 20 30

they are not going to teather them and let them fly around in the air - whatever the speed is at ground level it increases tons as it goes up like 5th floor 10the floor 20 floor- so lets visualize giant cranes become a projectile if this choice not to teather them is not a good idea

Visually to me it seems like one of the rides at a fair that swing out freaking you joyously out

me no expert - guess there is some merit to to it but just visually it seems if one is gonna get broken off as oppossed to flung out .....

what do I know

I vividly remember one in Sandy dangling down

Hurricane #Irma is now back to Category 5 intensity. The cone also shifted a bit to the west as well. Be ready for a major hit in here...
