Pet Friendly Shelter Guidelines

Pets must be brought to shelters in a carrier or crate that is marked with the owner's name, address and phone number.

Pet friendly emergency shelters are open only to domestic pets only.

http://www.wesh.com/article/central-florida-shelters-in-place-for-hurricane-irma/12192938

You must shelter at the school with your pet (in other words, you cannot drop your pet at the shelter and leave). Owners are responsible for feeding, exercising and cleaning up after their pets.

Your pet will need a Hurricane Disaster Kit, too. Include water, non-perishable food, medications and clean-up supplies. You will need a crate or carrier, litter, litter box, collar and leash, and up-to-date vaccination records for your pet.

Having a recent photo of your pet will be helpful if you get separated.

http://www.leegov.com/publicsafety/emergencymanagement/shelters/petshelter

If your pet is not up-to-date on its vaccinations, it will still be allowed at the shelter. However, the County will not be accepting liability if your pet gets sick due to being around other animals and being improperly vaccinated.

When going to a shelter, please bring 72 hours worth of food and water with you.

A friend in NC who is keeping an eye on Irma sent me a couple of interesting links to somewhat technical articles about tracking the storm. Apologies if these have already been posted.

Why the spaghetti plots are useless...

Why U.S. forecast models haven't done well with Irma.

There are other informative articles about Irma on this site daily. Be safe everyone.

Remember … No links, no post (that includes pics).

As Hurricane Irma approaches Florida, local family heads for Disney vacation

Snipped...
Hurricane Irma is changing travel plans for people across the country, and that includes many people trying to leave airports in Florida.

However, one Kentuckiana family has been planning a trip to Florida for several months, and they're not canceling the trip. It was a tough decision, but the family hit the road on Thursday afternoon.

What a kind and caring person you are! Thank you for offering up your home like that. Here you are willing to cramp your own style in order to help strangers. ( I should say strangers to you, although they're friends of someone you know. )

Definitely in my WS Hall of Fame!

Bless you too for training service dog teams. Incredible gift to the recipients...

You are most welcome, Jazz Tune :).

ugh know what miami people went to tampa and now irma is also coming to tampa or whatever same seen Fort laud to Fort Myers what a drag huh

Carris, are you staying?

Greetings from Puerto Rico! Hugo reached all the way up there? wow. Hugo is still remembered here in Puerto Rico as one of the most destructive hurricanes even though it did not hit half of the country.

About Irma, we're ok. We almost got hit by the eye, but the last hour it went up in latitude.

oh my gosh ..... I am sooo happy to hear you made it all right through all of this confusing and horrifying event! you take care and stay safe from whatever else Mother Nature tries sending anywhere near you.

I just don't know how you people can go through these things multiple times. once, and I probably would book it right back to Michigan. :hen::run:

Folks

What is your take as far as the landfall Miami and going and hugs east coast in terms of Orlando power outage compared to west coast trek up

My son had planned to go to Disney World this weekend... flying all the way there from California as a surprise birthday gift for his girlfriend, who is an avid Disneyland fan. On Tues. he decided to cancel their trip because of the (at that time) possible bad effects of the hurricane on Orlando. He made a good decision.

Yeh my sense if not in an evac area property built in like 2000 so it not like storm surge is a risk here

feedback?

I just hope you know how to function without power or water and have provisions Cariis. Start researching now. Fill your tub and buckets. Collect rainwater for washing. We were without water for about a week during a flood. No fun, but we were prepared. Memorize this list of shelters and resources, please. Above all, don't take risks. Hugs to one and all from the smoky northwest needing rain, but not THAT much.
