I was watching Dayle Hinman (the criminal profiler) last night. The episode was about a 13 year old boy that went missing. She made the comment that perps that abduct are very careful to never leave any trace evidence....and that if evidence is found, there is often a reason....most likely staging to lure cops away from the real site of contact. Also, when an abductor leaves evidence, there is a great likelihood that the victim is alive. Just something to ponder in this case....

ETA: The 13 year old boy was eventually found alive with his abductor...and Hinman helped in the boy's rescue.

Do you mean divided highway with two lanes in each direction?

No. Currently I380 is under construction and is only one lane west and one lane east. Traffic is sharing the same side, the side closest to the lake (west). The ditch where the lake is, is very deep and not at all difficult to pull off into. You can easily see the walking path but not so much into the ditch. Because of the construction the traffic is very heavy at most parts of the days and during busy times is often at a stop. I brought it to the police's attention to check the I380 cameras but they are only live views and not recorded.

You may possibly be able to see the lake from this camera in the morning. I am NOT positive though, but it will give you an idea on traffic. The lake would be off to the right. If you also google map "meyer's lake Iowa" it will give you an idea of how close the lake is to the interstate.

I do agree we need better pictures of them. However, I don't think her size would make her unable to do athletic stuff.

SOURCE-Me being a very chubby kid who was still very athletic, could scale any fence in the world, ride my bike forever, and was one of the fastest kids in my class.

I have known plenty of heavier children that are gifted in athletics...

This might have already been asked but what type of construction is going on in town? Is it road construction?

The west bound side of the interstate is completely torn up. As will the east side in the next couple weeks here when the west bound side is reopened.

2 young girls, riding their bikes together, I wonder why the bikes were at two different spots. If you are out together and you stop for something, you would stop in the same spot, imo. That, to me, says that someone grabbed the girl in the back first and when the one up front stopped they moved up to grab her too.

ohiogirl I believe the pic is referencing with arrows, the area between the arrows, as the bikes are believed to have been found with in that portion of the trail. i do not know that it has been said exactly 'how' they were found (lying on side, on kickstand,on pavement or grass, what direction pointed in,etc)

Back at the start of this thread, someone said that Grandma told LE to go look at the lake for the girls. So she must have known they liked to go there, or had gone there before.

I missed that. What I read was that the girls always stayed close to home.

It's possible that police immediately searched the Meyers Lake area because of a suggestion from the grandmother or one of the parents. There is also a report that the girls were seen downtown at 12:27. I suspect that the tip came in later. Since police found the bikes at the lake within 30 minutes of the missing children report at 3 pm, it seems like they knew where to start looking. It's a big park and there's no reason for police to start looking in the right area 1-2 miles from home except that this is where the family suspected that they may be found.

Correct - that is the general area the bikes were left and we don't know anything more. The person on FB claiming to have seen the bikes just before 12:27 said they or one was covering part of the path and he had to go around it.

Where did you read that the bikes were at different locations?

ETA: sorry, didn't mean to mislead. The bikes arrows refer to a specific region in plan view and then in front elevation ... where the bikes may have been found. We don't know exactly except that it is the SE tip of Meyers Lake.

They were seen downtown at 12:15. I've read bikes were found at two different times 3:30 & 4.

Somebody must've seen something!

Assuming they were abducted where the bikes were left, that implies one or more abductors in a vehicle on the main road. If it was one person, he must've parked for a while. If he had an accomplice/s, they would had to have either parked, or made a u turn somewhere and doubled back.

It certainly sounds very bad. I hope these little girls are still alive.

Covering part of the path suggests lying on the ground with half the bike on the path. That doesn't sound like anyone getting off her bike.

We have to keep in mind though these are 8 and 10 year olds. If something excites them or they want off their bikes in a hurry they will just dump them. Unlike adults most of the time growing up I never bothered with my kickstand.

Still, finding the bikes 1-2 miles from home 30 or 60 minutes after the missing report is made suggests to me that police knew exactly where to start looking. If they started at the edge of the park and rode their bikes carefully through the area, it may have taken 30 minutes and 60 for the troops to arrive.

I'm only as far as page nine as we were gone all day. Im going to try to answer a page or so at a time.

Reaize that this is a small town...but are there any cameras anyplace downtown ?

Probably not. There's not much there. I suspect the bank a few blocks down from ledermans would be the only place.

My daughter and I were talking about the articles on this case earlier, and she made an interesting point. If the girls were abducted by the fence why would the perp throw the purse/cell phone over the fence in the direction of the highway? If they threw the purse/phone at all it would most likely be in the opposite direction. Something feels wrong to me about the purse/phone being throw over the fence towards the road. How busy is this highway at this time of day? One of our thoughts was maybe the girls scaled the fence when someone on the other side stopped and enticed them in some manner. Maybe someone they knew said hey want to go get ice cream, or hey someone in your family is sick/needs you to come with me, or something similiar. Then when on the other side the person quickly forced them into a car leaving or throwing the purse/phone towards the fence.

Praying that these two precious girls are found alive and well, soon.

With the interstate being under construction, there are only two lanes with a tiny bit of emergency lane on the north side. Its a busy road and soul be hard to stop on the side, walk down there, and not be noticed. Especially since construction crews were working that area in full force friday. Workers have been questioned.

Does anyone know (and this may have been posted, so forgive me if I missed it) but, does anyone know if police have used tracking dogs around the fence area where the purse/phone were found?

Yes they have.

They are missing near a lake.

I always think "drowning" first when there are large bodies of water nearby.

They commented in today's news that they lake has been fully dreged and they are confident the girls are not in the lake.

They went missing early afternoon Friday.

The highway beside where the bikes were found is under construction. Were there construction workers at that location on Friday?

I thought they were almost 9 and 10. True enough about children sometimes dropping the bikes where they stop ... in someone's driveway, maybe a path.

Sorry I corrected my post I meant 8 and 10.

If someone had a van, up there behind the shopping, they could have thrown them in the side door fast, especially with an accomplice...

I really worry the bikes/bag were planted
