LE has said there is no reason to believe criminal activity, they are 80-90% sure he isn’t in the water, they are scaling back their search, and they are looking for someone walking around in the area where he was last headed. What does this mean for Jake? Do they believe he is somewhere safe?
Or like runaway situation?

Authorities do not believe Jake was the person seen walking in that area, but they'd like to identify that person to see if they can provide more information, said La Porte City Police Chief Chris Brecher.

"You never know what’s going to come up out of it ... not necessarily that it’s a suspect, but it’s a person that we have an interest in that we’d like to talk to," Brecher said.

Bumping this for more exposure, it definitely needs it.
There is so much discussion of the proximity, same officials and 1/2 hour window trying to identify a stranger with comparisons to Lyric and Elizabeth.
Elizabeths dad is also helping.

I’m very worried about the outcome of this case. I thought LE was saying Jake could be safe when they scaled back the search and the comments they made, but now I’m not so sure.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw a person walking in the area of Commercial Street and Bishop Avenue between 8:30 and 9 p.m. April 7 to come forward. That's when 16-year-old Jake Wilson was last seen going for a walk to Wolf Creek, which runs through La Porte City, a bedroom community for Waterloo in northeast Iowa.

On google maps, I took a look at the area where the person walking was seen. It’s very residential. There’s a sidewalk on Bishop and Commerical Street in that area. But it looks like there’s only one street lamp for the intersection.
The sidewalk on Bishop runs all the way to where it intersects with Lotus Street. Then there’s no sidewalk on Bishop to Wolf Creek. It may have been very dark in the area. The person seen walking may have been seen because of the intersection light at Commerical street and Bishop Street. The real question is if the person kept walking on Bishop toward the creek. The only other light was the intersection of Bishop and Lotus. Hopefully someone saw them there.

I just noticed that Tootises is off of Commerical. If the person walking was headed south of Tootises and Bishop, they run out of side walk and houses very quickly.

LE's intense focus on locating footage of this one person (almost to the exclusion of "general footage" now IMO) is very interesting IMO...

Has it has been too many days for this story to have a good ending?

Kudos to those continuing the ground search.

I’ve been digging for information on what exactly and where this class reunion and bike ride met up, went to, and where and when they ended.
I think that holds the key.
I also noticed that the high school is right across from wolf creek,

On one of the press conferences where Thompson was talking about people being armchair detectives, he said he thought of that right away and called someone to check on it. I would include the link, but I can’t remember which press conf and don’t have time to listen to them all tonight.

I do think this is a good possibility regarding the events taking place. As for the Annual April Fools Biking event, below are a couple links with details of the route and a trail map. Looks like the trail itself is 52 miles and spans between Hiawatha and Evansdale. The annual ride covers a portion of that between La Porte City and Brandon. There are also event pages including past rides and the most recent event which can be found on Facebook. Getaway Bar and Grill located at 106 Commercial St. is a place noted on the event page. The person hosting the event page did state that they were contacted by the FBI to request riders to submit their digital media from April 7th. The link for this page is also below. Figured it would be ok to post it since it's not a personal page but instead a public event page.

This year was the 16th year for the ride and it seems the same route is used every year. I imagine there are also traditional stops and activities that take place. Someone with sinister intentions could definitely use that knowledge to their benefit though I truly hope that isn't the case. I have lived in Iowa for 16 years. We have so many trails and biking events in Iowa but I had not heard of this one specifically, though I am not really into cycling either. I don't know how far an avid cycler would travel to partake in these type of events.

I did also find out that even my community has one of these Annual April Fools bike rides, but recently was cancelled for snow and ice storm. So now I wonder if this specific event takes place in several Iowa communities and if others have went missing in past events around these same dates.

If someone did take advantage of this event they must at least know the area pretty well including what type of security measures are in place in the community and for the event. They would also need to feel comfortable as far as blending in. Not saying that this would be someone from that area specifically but perhaps attends these events frequently.

The Cedar Valley Trail now extends down through Cedar Rapids to Ely. It’s part of the American Discovery Trail that runs from Delaware to California. I wonder if the connection could extend beyond this one biking event.

They searched a remote park in Bremer County, which is north of Waterloo. Wonder if they searched the same area the cousins were found in.

It looks from this article that yes indeed they did...

SBM:
He said authorities and volunteers also have searched surrounding areas including McFarlane Park and Hickory Hills in La Porte City, and Seven Bridges Wildlife Area near Waverly, as well as areas in Evansdale and down to Vinton. Seven Bridges park is where the remains of missing cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins were found more than five years ago. They were kidnapped from Evansdale and killed. Police have never found their assailant. Authorities have not publicly linked the two cases.

The fact that they are searching such remote parks including Seven Bridges is both terrifying and heartbreaking. Please do not let this be another Lyric and Elizabeth nightmare :(

Does anyone recall any of these bike rides happening around the same time Lyric and Elizabeth went missing?

I tried to do some digging, but maybe someone with more skill can find something i missed.

On July 12, 2013 there were numerous rides going on.

The closest was was a ride from Ely to Cedar Rapids and back.

There was also a ride across the state of Iowa.

While I don’t know if the “bike ride” is in fact a connection, it sure is very interesting.

Bike Iowa has a FB page as well, you can view pictures there........
