And the mom said that she (the mom) texted that she got MT the dessert ingredients she (MT) requested that she'd need for a Friday dessert. So, I don't know if MT initiated the texting about dinner. I could see the mom or MT saying something about dinner right after the dessert message

This article describes the conversation pretty well. :)

Calderwood said she had exchanged several text messages with her daughter that afternoon.

“She had sent me a shopping list for a dessert she wanted to make and take to work,” she said. “I texted her that I got the ingredients and asked if she was coming home for dinner.”

According to Calderwood, Tibbetts said she would be home and asked what they were having. “Brats,” she replied. “Ok,” Tibbetts responded.

But dinner came and went, Calderwood said, and Tibbetts didn’t come home.

Disappearance of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts remains a mystery

I asked that question a while back, and was told that this is the type of town where no one locks their door, and it's likely that she didn't have any keys. :(

Sorry, I don't buy that. When I was a kid we moved to a very small town, smaller than Brooklyn most people looked their doors when they went out of town or were gone for an extended period of time. And most everyone I knew had a hidden key. So, even if you didn't carry one, you had one available.

Joran v.d. Sloot committed a murder exactly five years after the disappearance of Natalie Holloway. He may have murdered others in the interim and avoided detection. Similarly, it's quite possible that one person is responsible for the abduction/murders of two girls in 2012 and has committed more abduction/murders in the interim. Although we can imagine all sorts of reasons why girls and young women are abducted, the obvious reason is sexual assault.
You can have your opinio I just dont see it. Serial killers usually stick to what works. Going in a house abducting someone dont fit a pattern of killing little girls in parks to me. Now there could be a link between indiana and the two little girls killed in Iowa

I haven't seen all that many cases over the years that get this much FBI presence right off the bat.
I would assume it is unusual in the broader sense given how many crimes happen without much, if any, wide public oversight. However, FBI /homeland security involvement early on has been typical in the few cases I've closely followed here (Dani Stislicki, L&A). From what I've gathered, it is not as uncommon in small towns or areas of low crime, few resources, limited experience with high profile/disappearance cases.

Do we know how she was going to get to moms for dinner ?

You want to talk about a serial killer that fits this pattern. Israel keys, this is his mo of operation

The two little girls that got killed in 2012 have more in common with the two girls that got killed in indiana. I dont think those cased have any connection to this one.

The Delphi girls were abducted on another significant day: February 14, 2017. My understanding is that investigators have looked for a connection between Delphi and Evansdale and did not find one. That doesn't mean that there is no connection between Evansdale and Brooklyn.

No, and isn’t it great. How often have we lamented about “LE isn’t equipped for this type of case, why didn’t they bring in the FBI sooner”?

Whether for technical assistance, or insight that they need specialist resources, LE have done the right thing bringing in the FBI IMO.

The question may be as simple as the two didn't have a well established routine and this trip by BF threw a wrench in their normal communications. Each one may have been waiting for the other to send something?

In our house, since the carjacking I text hubby just as I am ready to leave, when I get to where I am going and when I am in car getting ready to go home or wherever next and after I am home, locked in and alarm on. He does the same for me.

Since I travel often alone, I also text before I get out of my car when stopping for gas - give the exit and gas station name. Then text again when I am ready to pull out. BTW- I wear my glove while pumping gas too.

IF anything should happen- the cloud/phone company as well as hubby will know my last position. He can simply hand the phone to LE and they can get busy!

It may seem nutty to some but it works. We had his mom do the same thing when she decided to travel to GA alone. It brings each of us peace and it isn't necessary to reply. It is more like a personal ping point.

It was Wednesay night - was there any sort of happenings in that town or nearby other than the County Fair someone mentioned back on THREAD 1.

Did Mollie have any hangouts? Age of drinking in IA is 21 - Mollie was underage. Did she stop somewhere for water or a drink? Seems unlikely LE wouldn't know of such a place and already viewed tapes. That is if there are tapes/surveillance footage.

If you have an iPhone, you might also find the “Find My Friends” app very useful as well. Our whole family uses it as our youngest is an adventurer and he travels internationally for work. It enables this old mom a little peace of mind as I’m able to keep tabs on his sometimes very remote locations around the world. :)

NEW: Press conference happening tomorrow for the Mollie Tibbetts missing person case out of Brooklyn, Iowa. It'll be at 1:30pm. #MollieTibbetts

Thank you for this update. Hope we learn more and most importantly it produces the lead they need.

I agree with you.

I am not doubting you, I just dont see it. People who abduct and kill little girls stick to that.

It just feels to me like there's a ton of movement....

Snipped to shorten...

Yeah isn't this church country? I mean wouldn't there have been lots of people on the road at that time?
Yes but church activities could be anywhere from 5:30-10PM. So could have been perfectly void of witnesses. And the county fair was going, which is a major annual event. Brooklyn, IA could have been eerily quiet that night.

Would MT have attempted to 'hitch a ride' to either her mother's house and/or to work? I would guess no regarding the mother's house since the distances involved are well within walking / running distance. The distance to work is a whole another issue.

I remember hoping LEO and other officials had more info they just weren't releasing with Missy Bevers. I really thought they were just keeping info "close to the vest" to protect the investigation. I was wrong. They still don't have a clue who murdered her and they have the murderer on tape. The killer was in disguise, but I still thought it would give them enough clues, esp throughout the interview and/or interrogation process.

This is probably easy for me to say, sitting on my comfy bed with zero LEO training :)

Yeah, I see that in a lot of cases. I do appreciate people's optimism, that LE has all the answers and are just waiting for the right time to announce an arrest. But the reality is that if they knew who the perpetrator is, they would have already arrested and charged them. The vast majority of these cases are never solved. But they are still interesting to follow anyway, under small change that they might actually get solved.

Oh...thanks!

As a person living in the suburb of a major city, it’s hard for me to even think of not locking up my house! Heck, there’s times when I’ve even locked the door just to get my mail, which is across the street, come to think of it! o_O

I grew up in an Oklahoma town almost the exact size of Brooklyn, and we always locked the door if we left the house, and at night. My parents still live there, and now they usually keep the door locked while they’re at home, too (probably because kids & teens aren’t constantly needing in now!) It’s hard for me to imagine not locking the door, even being from a small, rural town.
