There are additional views that show the same car -- the north facing camera. "Did you see the black Malibu pass through the area of the surveillance system after 8:07?" "No sir." There were other vehicles seen by the cameras - that info was passed on to other law enforcement.

Did he really have a date though? That's basically what I'm wondering, is if Cristhian was thinking of Mollie?

I could be wrong but I thought the birthday party and/or cousin's last encounter with CBR was after Mollie was murdered. I understood the questioning of the witness intended to illustrate there was nothing different about CBR's behavior -- including a pending date. In other words, I don't think CBR was thinking of Mollie and any line of question alluding to what CBR was thinking would have been objected to. MOO

Defense strategy seems to be introducing as many names as possible into the mix in an attempt to create doubt in jurors' minds that investigators followed up thoroughly on every lead. This was a big theme in jury selection questioning.

And yes apparently the defense intends to mention every single person who lives in Brooklyn and the vicinity as a possible suspect. Except CBR, the guy who confessed , who had her blood in his car, and led LE to her body.

Welcome, @Forever Young. As a local, can you provide some clarity on driving privileges in Iowa? More specifically, I'm curious about the testimony where CBR presented a birth certificate to law enforcement when he was stopped driving the subject black Malibu. Is the birth certificate in lieu of a driver's license? Thank you.

I imagine that presenting the birth certificate in lieu of a state issued drivers license was an immediate red flag. It is not legal in Iowa to drive without a license. I am a resident of Illinois, directly across the river from Iowa. Have worked both there and here, do most of my shopping in Iowa, and feel local demographics are more Iowa than Illinois.

In May of 2018, 32 illegal aliens were arrested in the town of Mt. Pleasant IA at a concrete plant. This was in the news at the time as the town of Mt. Pleasant was deeply impacted. Mt. Pleasant is 100 miles east and south of Brooklyn IA.

Poweshiek County Deputy Steve Kivi said the homeowner’s surveillance video collected during a canvass showed a black Chevy Malibu with chrome door handles “just kind of lingering” near where Mollie Tibbetts disappeared while running on July 18, 2018, in Brooklyn, Iowa.

Kivi said he reviewed the video on Aug. 15, 2018, while investigating what happened to Tibbetts, a University of Iowa student who was back in her hometown over summer break. The next day, Kivi said he spotted the vehicle just outside of Brooklyn getting off of Interstate 80 and later interviewed the driver, a local dairy farm worker named Cristhian Bahena Rivera.

Bahena Rivera’s defense team tried Thursday to cast doubt on others who had initially come under scrutiny, including Tibbetts’ boyfriend and local residents who had been investigated because of their past behavior toward women.

Kivi acknowledged that investigators never found a murder weapon. An autopsy found that Tibbetts had died of stab wounds.

He acknowledged that several other county residents had come under scrutiny during the monthlong investigation, including a man who lived next to where Tibbetts’ body was found. But he said no evidence was found linking anyone else to Tibbetts’ death.

Riessen said he made a spreadsheet logging every person or vehicle that could be seen on the video around that time, and the first four entries were of a distinctive Chevy Malibu.

"We wanted to know who was driving that vehicle," he said.

Here is a question if anyone knows: At yesterday's trial, CBR's cousin who purchased the Malibu states that CBR said at the birthday party that he had a date. Was any other woman found who he dated, or was this a veiled reference that he had been watching Mollie?

CBR has a long time girlfriend, whom he has a baby with. His girlfriend went to high school with Mollie, and IIRC, they were Facebook friends.
