It seems he's resilient being able to endure frequent arguments, especially from the person who should love and value him most. And his smiling in most pictures indicates to me that he's able to adapt well to his environment.
I don't think he left voluntarily because of his loyalty to his mom and knowing that she needed his help. I feel so bad for this child. MOO

I agree that he looked genuinely happy, or at least okay, in the pictures we've seen. Not a fake smile, his age, they are good at that, that cheesy okay, I will smile look. He didn't look vacant, or haunted, or too thin, or unkempt.

We've heard that CPS was "aware of the situation", but it doesn't sound like there were concerns, no one saying, oh, we've called CPS 15 times.

I do think, he may have been easy pickings for a predator.

I hope I am wrong. He seems like a great kid.

Although foul play is not suspected, it should not be discounted either. Before Xavior Harrelson went missing, 11-year-old Ryan Larsen of La Vista, Nebraska went missing and both boys went missing in eerily similar circumstances. Montezuma is a three-hour drive straight down I-80 from La Vista. There is, although I hope not, the distinct possibility of a mobile child predator.

Xavior Harrelson was reported missing one week ago

Investigators went door to door looking for their next clue to find Xavior Harrelson on Wednesday. They say they've collected all the surveillance video they can but are still asking for anyone they missed to send them their video.

Neighbors are describing the night before his disappearance. They told KCCI they heard a fight between Xavior and his mother the night before.

The Iowa DCI reported they were aware of the Xavior's home life but could not confirm or deny any specifics.

Teachers have told KCCI over the last week that Xavior's mother is disabled and he acts as her caretaker. She has not spoken publicly yet.

It was a neighbor who first reported Xavior as missing when he wasn't out riding his bike Thursday morning.

“The other thing I can't really wrap my head around is why isn't anybody in the family gone on here? And so that's why I'm Xavior's voice. And that's how I feel. And that's why I keep doing this, because somebody has to speak for him,” Samantha Rix said.

"Xavior, I don't think, would wander off on his own," said Marie Boulton, one of Harrelson's school teachers. "He has a huge heart and really loved his mom and helped her out at home, so I don't think he would want to leave and make her worry or make any of us worry."

If you know where Harrelson may be, contact the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office at 641-623-5679. Montezuma residents are asked to search their own properties and video surveillance systems for any sign of Harrelson.

"We are reaching out to the public in an attempt to locate any video systems that we may not be aware of," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook.

How disable is the mom? Bedridden? How come she is not the one to have called police to say that he was missing? If he is her caretaker who looks after her when Xavior is in school?
It doesn't sound like she's bedridden or someone that needs a caretaker at all times.
"She says the boy’s mother is an amputee who has trouble putting on her prosthetic leg.

Her 11-year-old son acted as her caretaker... Xavior was very close with his mother.

“Things she can’t do he helps her with. You know and Xavior knows that, and he knows that he’s not just her son,” SR said “He’s her other leg.”"

I can't help but continue to think of Harley Dilly.

If X and his mom argued a lot, even without any violence or abuse, he might have had a place nearby he liked to hide out for a peaceful respite. And maybe this time something went wrong with his hiding place.

I know children are amazingly resilient, yet this just seems like a lot to put on an 11-year-old. I feel so overwhelmed by the number of children who bear so much in their young lives.

This^ and the fact that he and his mother argue often really bothers me. Why would a mother and 11 year old child argue? I never argued with my children when they were that age.

I'm trying to understand why a mother doesn't report her child missing and it takes a neighbour to step up and do it?

Is there a reason Xavior's mother didn't want to alert LE to her son's disappearance?
While a neighbor may have reported Xavior missing, I don't think it's necessarily true his mother didn't also report him missing via a friend.

Harrelson lived with his mother in the Spruce Village trailer park in Montezuma, Iowa, a town of 1,300 people that is 70 miles east of Des Moines. He disappeared after leaving home around 11 a.m. on May 27. A friend's mother later called authorities to report the boy missing after speaking with Xavior's worried mother.

It was a neighbor who first reported Xavior as missing when he wasn't out riding his bike Thursday morning.

Montezuma ties ribbons for missing Xavior Harrelson (kcci.com)
Light poles, trees and road signs around Montezuma have been wrapped in orange ribbons, as community members try to keep focus on the search for missing 11-year-old Xavior Harrelson.

[...]

But clues about Xavior's disappearance May 27 seem to have stalled. Investigators have not announced any leads that would help explain what happened to a boy who was known for staying very close to home in Spruce Village trailer park.

[...]

They have compiled surveillance video from inside and outside the trailer park, but it's not clear whether any of that video has been helpful in the search.

I would say either your children were relatively easy and you don't even know it, or you have amazing patience that not everyone has.

I have yelled. Parents don't want to yell, but I know many who have. It's a learned stress-response, a very difficult cycle to end.

I can tell you, if Xavior and his mother argued a lot, if she yelled, it doesn't mean she doesn't love him dearly or that she's involved. She's only human. And, I assume, possibly a victim here, too.

Knowing he sometimes sought out other places to stay overnight is a concern, as is CPS being aware of the family. My hunch is he was vulnerable prey and someone might have been ready to take advantage.

jmopinion at the moment, and, as always, subject to change as we learn more.
