When the PI said he hoped the national media would take an interest in the case, it made me think his plan for the case going national was media executives somehow seeing the interview, and inviting him to be on their show. I honestly feel like the most he would do to make the case go national is fill out a form letter on HLN's website. I just can't see him being aggresive or if the media was like "You know, nothing is really happening in the case right now", saying something like "Okay, what if the parents spoke too?"

ETA: And here is something I don't understand...If it's apparently easy for the PI to get the case in the national media, if all it takes is one phone call, when there's nothing happening in the case and Deorr's been gone over a month, then why do we refer to parents who get national coverage as "media-savvy?" It would seem that all it takes is a pulse.

It's been six weeks now. Some things should be coming back from the FBI lab.

I look for something to happen in the next couple of weeks.

Fingers are crossed.

I think it might be somewhat longer. It was announced on 7/31 that the FBI was asked to assist. On 8/11 there was an update that everything had been turned over to the FBI. In the interview on 8/18 the sheriff said the FBI would have results back in 6-8 weeks. I'm not sure exactly when the 6-8 weeks started, but I am guessing it was somewhere around 8/11. Maybe some results will come back earlier. I hope we hear about the results whenever they come back!

My family lives 2.5 hours north of Leadore just off of Highway 93. They have a news station broadcasting out of Missoula. My mom watches that news program religiously. She said she assumed DeOrr had been found because they haven't reported anything in weeks. It's not HLN, but 93 is one of the main ways out of the Leadore area. If the PI believes there was an abduction, I can't imagine why he wouldn't at least publicize the tip line on that station. Unless, like another poster mentioned,
perhaps he was asked not to. Or is in the Caribbean. [emoji6]

ETA: highway 93 also runs through Missoula. Seems if you were gonna start anywhere to try to get tips, you'd start with the closest cities, right?

Something is bothering me about the distances it was reported that each of the players were from each other. The sheriff says when asked about IR:

"Sheriff Bowerman:
1:08
(Using his hands to demonstrate)
“He was in the same general proximity. The creek…it’s just over the bank. Um, he’s downstream, they’re upstream. Uh, they’re all within probably (head nodding left to right) 100 to 150 feet of each other. “

That means they were all basically still within campsite area. I just don't see how a child could have disappeared if the facts we are being given are correct.

This map shows the distances from the campfire. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z2VLvG6QAl8U.kPHWqpKuC66g

For some reason I can't get images to post on here today.

ClaireNC, thanks so much for all of your great maps. Since I don't do maps I really appreciate those who do. I came back to this map because it set out the distances so clearly. I wanted to take a look at the distance from the campsite to the tree lines. However, I noticed that the area marked Timber Creek Campground (with the little triangle) and the area marked Middle Fork of Little Creek (thanks neesaki) are actually much further south than what your dots and fire pit have indicated. Which area was the family in while camping? Thanks so much.

In reading about the hunting season starting I was thinking it would be really nice if a picture of what he was wearing when he went missing could be published.

Even if they had to show catalog pictures of similiar items it would help!

There was a post to page on Facebook to one of the local news stations from someone looking to arrange information for hunters (either KIFI or EIN). Not sure what stage they are at and I don't have a link, but I believe someone is looking to make sure all hunters are informed (at least I hope!!)

Wow! That's wonderful!

If you happen to come across it could you share it here. A picture is worth a thousand words for sure. TIA

We discussed this the other day. IMO there is a reason why the PI has backed off from his planned push to gain national exposure. I wonder if LE or the FBI have asked him to back off.

My guess would be that unless the parents are willing to go front and center that would never work.

Since they are doing it a different way that might be why the PI has shelved that idea.

MOO

So, do we pretty much agree that the amount of time between "DeOrr is GONE!" till the time LE showed up is about 2 hours? Mom told 911 they'd been searching about an hour and then roughly another hour till LE arrived?

The family was camping where I placed the firepit. The little triangle is the location of the campground in general that is preset into Google Maps. So if somebody wants to go camping and they google Timber Creek campground, that is the spot the map would take them too. It is not "actually much further south." It is only 800 feet away.

I'd say that is about right. Though I believe the hour that Mom said they were searching, later was cut down to 20 minutes.

Ok I see Claire said it might have been 20 minutes mom searched.

So my question is this. In that time frame when did the parents do that interview? Anybody happen to know? TIA

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the parents did any interview prior to LE showing up. If you are thinking of the sit-down interview with Nate, that was done at least a couple days after DeOrr went missing, if not longer.

The parents did the interview on July 13th, three days after little Deorr disappeared.

This is great news!

"Fifty three percent of Idahoans fished and thirty five
percent hunted in the last two years and our numbers are growing. We certified over 13,500 new hunters, bow hunters and trappers last fiscal year, a 14 percent increase over the previous year. And 3,900 ten and eleven year olds hunted their first deer or elk this year.
We are also busy with our “Take Me Fishing” trailers,
helping nearly 24,000 people over the last two years
learn to fish. These are just a few examples of how
Fish and Game, and a dedicated corps of volunteers
are working to preserve, protect and perpetuate Idaho’s wildlife and our hunting and fishing heritage."

I've been thinking about the six to eight weeks for the FBI to complete their investigation. What would they be working on that takes that long other than DNA evidence? Does anyone here have any ideas? TIA

I don't understand why the PI doesn't set up a website dedicated to finding Deorr. Photos, images of his clothes, descriptions, updates, leads, etc. - you can't find an abducted child if no one has any information.

I'm left to assume that no one really thinks he was abducted. If the PI and police aren't pursuing it, then I'm eliminating it from my list of theories as well.

II agree. MOO is that nobody thinks DeOrr ever left that campsite alive. If he were ever there in the first place....

I would think that would prevent any large scale organized search? Who is going to go searching and risk being hit by an arrow or whatever the hunters are using? If the baby is up there, perhaps a hunter will stumble across the remains. I know some people have asked about seeing facsimiles of what Deorr jr was wearing. There is a photo of similar articles when you watch the NG broadcast.

Two things come to mind regarding the posts about hunting season for bears, mountain lions, and wolves as well as the hunters themselves. I recently suggested the possibility and have not heard back yet from the reporter, Nate Eaton, regarding the rallying of hunters, who are excellent trackers along with SAR to search now instead of in the future when a hunter may incidentally find Deorr. Additionally, the fact that there is bear, mountain lion, and wolves hunted in the area just reinforces to me the idea that sweet Deorrr may have taken by a large, predator.

It almost sounds like a standard (rule of thumb) length of time but probably isn't. Since everything we've been told has said they have found NOTHING, it does make one wonder how they would test that. I would imagine most of it is routine DNA to have on file if needed, but that no longer takes 6-8 wks, does it? Perhaps lack of evidence takes longer to go through than evidence does. Personally I think the FBI will go through interviews, reports, PHOTOS, witness statements, etc. and make comparisons to make sure nothing was missed. I think any photos taken by the investigators and search teams would need to be gone over very carefully. The FBI has so many specialists at its disposable and we know how far reaching their resources can be. They are probably also reviewing statistics - of all kinds. Of course they will look at phone logs and will conduct interviews of their own. I'm sure the list goes on and on, or perhaps, none of the above :(

The last interview with the sheriff just clicked back in my head ...didn't he say wolves and bears were running through the camp while they were searching? Tells me the hunter's would have game to hunt in the close proximity, for sure.
