He evidently purchased gun equipment (magazines) from the same website that Cho (Va. Tech) purchased a gun from.

I'm very much in favor of people having their Second Amendment rights, but I'm not sure internet shopping should facilitate that.

More info at the below link regarding the shooters psych problems among other issues. I apologize if this has already been posted:

Late Friday, a former employee at a Chicago psychiatric treatment center told The Associated Press that Kazmierczak was placed there after high school by his parents. She said he used to cut himself, and had resisted taking his medications.
***
Authorities also were searching for a woman who police believe may have been Kazmierczak's girlfriend. According to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is still under investigation, authorities were looking into whether Kazmierczak and the woman recently broke up.
***
Kazmierczak spent more than a year at the Thresholds-Mary Hill House in the late 1990s, former house manager Louise Gbadamashi told the AP.
"He never wanted to identify with being mentally ill," she said. "That was part of the problem."

Here is the link to Thresholds. IMO, spending/living a year at one of their facilities is pretty serious.

Yeah, sure sounds like it! I wonder what exactly, other than self injury, his issues were? (if it's already been posted here and I missed it, I'm sorry!)

ETA: Sounds like they offer some wonderful services, wish there were more programs like them!

The below link gives alot more insight into the psych problems. They sound very serious.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=5959663

Kazmierczak, 27, was treated for mental illness nine years ago. He was considered volatile, according to a staff member who worked at the facility at the time, and violent if he stopped taking the antidepressant and anti-anxiety pills prescribed for him. Including Paxil, it was medication he was supposed to still be taking and apparently stopped a couple of weeks ago.

Shortly after Kazmierczak graduated from Elk Grove Village High School in 1998, his parents became unable to handle him, according to a woman who worked as a residential manager at a psychiatric treatment center for mentally and behaviorally troubled teenagers. Kazmierczak lived at the Mary Hill Home, 7356 N. Winchester, on Chicago's Northwest Side and received psychiatric treatment for more than a year after he was diagnosed as mentally ill in the late 1990s. His parents sent him for treatment. I just knew there was more to the story.
Ppl just don't snap without a history behind them.
When channel 5, very early yesterday morning was saying stuff
that wasn't I guess suppost to come out yet. And I posted it, got
slack from some posters.

He also had a short-lived stint as a prison guard that ended abruptly when he didn't show up for work. He was in the Army for about six months in 2001-02, but he told a friend he'd gotten a psychological discharge.

Prayers for NIU and family's

Golfmom have no info on the myspace account...-(

Pharlap, it identifies that photo as from his myspace. Was anyone able to find his myspace account?

:( I had one of my daughters friends from NIU for dinner last night. You can just see the weight and reality of the situation written in her eyes.

Ya'll remember that guy's myspace & livejournal? Creepy stuff ... I wouldn't believe anything that guy said, however, it has been confirmed that SK worked at Pirate's Cove.

I remember a worker whom I managed at Pirate's Cove in Elk Grove Village named Jim Schaefer , who had to be removed from his position because he never showed up on time, and because of the serious allegations of sexually inappropriate conduct with minors at our park. I mean, we knew that Jim had some serious psychological issues, but when we found out about these claims of touching, we had to let this guy go. This was quite disturbing to all of the managers at Pirate's Cove, and a police report had to be filed, (yeah, a lot of drama at our quaint little park). A....

Wasn't there some reference to Jim / James ? in the whole manifesto from hell?

Jim/James is sinicalpyse, the fellow who knew the shooter, NOT the shooter, as far as I know/what the current news sources say/what sinicalypse's MySpace blog says.

That is amazing.

One of the blogs by someone who knew or worked with him said he definitely had "sexual issues".

Withdrawal from SRIIs is mentioned; that could have thrown him into depression I guess; but since he had acquired some of the guns awhile back; seems like something he had been planning awhile, then finally decided to do it.

If he left the military, that could have been sexual issues as well.

Yes Kat, I understand that, however, the point of my post was that Jim/James knows SK and is spouting off a bunch of stuff regarding SK. If he's the source of any info. I'd just immediately discount it based on his blah blah blah self-absorbed, I'm in so much pain, nobody understands me, extremely creepy blogs.

Someone should have red flagged this guy a long time ago. The warning signs were there. The Military knew it. His parents knew it. His friends knew it.

Why was he allowed to purchase the guns? When the Military discharged him for mental defect...he should not have been able to buy a gun after that.

It makes me so angry that people who see the signs do nothing to prevent these killings. Every story has someone saying they knew he was messed up yet nothing is being said about what anyone did about keeping the public safe from him. Our laws need to be changed as far as mental illness goes. It is ridiculously difficult to keep a person locked up where they belong. (Look at BS and her stints in the hospital)

A killer and the lives lost
DEKALB | Those closest to Steve Kazmierczak saw 2 sides
a gifted, dedicated student, but beset by behavioral problems
February 16, 2008

Peter Rachowsky, 27, a former Elk Grove Village resident, described Kazmierczak as "pretty much my first and only friend" during junior high and their first two years of high school. But then, around their junior year, he said Kazmierczak began exploring satanism and white-power movements, leading Kazmierczak's parents to take him to specialists who put him on drugs that caused his weight to fluctuate greatly.

Several people have reported ie; that his expressions never changed and that you never knew when he was in one of his moods because of that. It was hard to predict when he was going to come at you. He sounds psychopathic, IMO.

Ahhh! Oh, yes I agree with that sentiment. Did you read the one where he went on and on about how he tore his ex-girlfriend's heart out? Bleh, yick, urgh! Still, sometimes it takes one to know one, eh?

I have a friend like this. He doesn't have any psychological issues like Steve, but he is definitely a snapcase. He'd look fine one minute and then just turn on you completely the next. Pretty scary.

I totally agree with you. There is no civil right to be able to purchase weapons from the internet. This young man began displaying disturbing signs before he purchased the guns, and just maybe a face-to-face encounter with a gun dealer would have resulted in him being denied the weapons.

I know this is the least important thing about this tragedy, but he did have the most perfect eyebrows I've ever seen on a guy. They even look good in his yearbook picture. I'm wondering things too, but it's not worth mentioning.
Funny...it was the first thing I noticed, too! Closet Gay? Cross-dresser? They looked waxed to me.
