There's not alot if places that you can run iff the road and not be seen for days. I think the friends in Bradley may know something also. They may not necessarily be ONU students. It's not a big town so it's easy to associate outside the college.
I hope the friends are sharing everything they recall. Or recall everything they need to share.
I think the answers may come from the last person who saw her or talked to her. At least get her state of mind and demeanor.
This whole thing is just confusing.

Just heard back from the reporter (that was quick :)):
"You are correct, and we are making that change to reflect that she did leave SCHAUMBURG at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Thomas Glasgow had emphasized that Sheila had just completed her final exams. Do you happen to know whether she had finished them that morning? I'm waiting for a call back from him as well. Thank you!"

If anyone knows the answer to the reporter's question, you may wish to help him out. His email is epeterson@dailyherald.com.

Great job, inmyhumbleopinion! Clarification is good and why reporters need to be more careful when reporting. Do they think nobody is paying attention?
In that case, she probably took her final/s on Wednesday.

Hinky that she'd text to say how far she'd driven if she was still driving imo.
Unless, of course, she drove off the road while texting!

Good questions. Young people do impulsive things. She just finished finals and probably wanted to have fun with friends. It appears she made it all the way to Bourbonnais area. You'd think if someone followed her they wouldn't drive an hour following her. I keep thinking she ran off the road or the friends she was coming back to visit at ONU know what's going on.

We don't even really know her though. Maybe she doesn't drink at all.
If she does, why would she drive a long distance if any at all. Makes no sense.
Plus she is 27, not 22 or 23. IMO age past 25 makes a difference in decision making - not with all people of course. Family indicates she is grounded and communicative.

I agree the friends would at least know why she was going. Hope not because of a man.

I didn't necessarily say she was drinking. But that certainly is a possibility. She could have just been exhausted, which isn't good combination when driving.

My point is college students are under a lot of stress around finals time. When they are through with them it's a relief, uphoria, which could lead to doing things you might not normally do. In know way am I blaming her either. Just theorizing on her possible state of mind.

Oh, I know, I didn't think you implied she was drinking. I just wanted to bring up the subject because it is a possibility so those were my thoughts alone.
Still, I sense she's a responsible person.

I hope they are checking cameras on the fast food places on 50. If going to Bradley she could have gone north instead of South to grabs something to eat.. Google says the White Castle is 24 hours... and the Wal-Mart is not too far either.

Here is the best timeline I have been able to piece together so far:

  • Thurs., May 4, 11:30 am: Sheila leaves her family's Schaumburg home to visit friends in Bloomingdale (it is an approx. 15 to 20 minute drive from Schaumburg to Bloomingdale with the latter being straight south of the former). She is seen by her father, who was the second to last to leave home that day (the last being Sheila).
  • Thurs. - Early Fri., May 5, Exact Time Unknown: After hanging out with friends for the day, Sheila gets a call from friends in Bradley -approx. a ten-minute-drive to the SE from Bourbonnais- asking her to come and stay with them.
  • Fri., May 5, 12 am to 1 am: Sheila is physically seen for the last time at a friend's house in Bloomingdale.
*During the press conference, a reporter starts to ask what Sheila might have been doing or where she might have been between leaving Schaumburg and arriving in Bloomingdale, as well as while in Bloomingdale, and the family attorney says those details cannot be discussed at this time.*

  • Fri., May 5, approx. 1:50 am: Sheila sends a text to tell friends she had made it to the toll plaza where Interstate 57 intersects Interstate 294.
*After that, all communication ceases. According to Bourbonnais Police Chief James Phelps, Sheila's cell phone last pinged on a tower near Bourbonnais and Momence (I have not been able to find the exact time of the ping, other than the 1:50 am text being the last communication).*

  • Fri., May 5, approx. 2 am: Sheila's car's I-PASS is used for the last time, exiting the I-294 tollway onto Route 57 toward Bourbonnais (the same location as the toll plaza referenced above).
*At the beginning of the conference, the attorney says they have not been able to determine if it was actually Sheila who was driving the car at that point.*
*Sheila never made it to her friend's in Bradley. "Her friends in Bradley waited for her until 5 a.m. while growing increasingly worried," [family friend and attorney Thomas Glasgow] said.*

I live in the Kankakee area and I work at the Target in Bradley which is by the exit onto Rt 50 from I57. There is the White Castle open 24 hours also by the exit and a bit to the north on Rt 50 there is a 24 hour Walmart and a 24 hour Shell Gas Station. To the south there is a Denny's, a McDonalds, a Steak and Shake, an I-Hop and a Checkers all either 24 hours or at least open until 4 AM. I wonder if any security cameras from those establishments have been checked and if any of the employees have been questioned as to if they remember seeing her?
The details are so sketchy as to where exactly she was heading A friend in Bradley is so vague....WHERE in Bradley? I read she had already moved her things from Olivet yet her brother said she was going to get the rest of her belongings? Who did she text saying she had "made it that far" the friend in Bradley or the friends in Bloomingdale? And was the text sent as she was getting onto I57 from 294? Or as she was approaching the Bradley/Bourbonnais exit? So confusing!!!
A lot of the students from Olivet work at Target part time during the school year and this case is too close to home for me...I hope she is found soon and is safe!

Something doesn't sound right. How can her cell phone ping near Momence / Bourbonnais at 2:00 am yet she texts at 1:50 30 miles away?

I think maybe she texted when getting off 57 in Bourbonnais. ?
That would make sense.

The phone ping doesn't necessarily have to do with the 1:50 am text supposedly sent from the I-294/Route 57 area, IMO.

The text stating that she -or whoever was sending the message from her phone- had made it to the toll plaza area was sent at 1:50 am. Her I-PASS made a transaction near I-57 and 294 at 2 am. Based on these, I think it is safe to say that Sheila -or at least her cell phone since the family attorney said at the press conference LE had not been able to confirm the identity of the driver as of yesterday ... :(- and her car were in that particular area around 2 am.

I have not seen anything that says what time her phone pinged. If the ping was GPS-based, then the phone wouldn't necessarily have to have been in use (e.g., text, voice call, etc.). If the location had to be triangulated, then the phone would have to have been in use, I believe:

My guess is that Sheila's phone was not pinged until after she was reported missing, which would have been late Friday afternoon.

If your missing a post this is the reason why:

The "victim friendly" rule extends to the family members of victims and suspects. Sleuthing family members, friends, and others who have not been designated as suspects is not allowed. Don't make random accusations, suggest their involvement, nor bash and attack them. Posting their personal information, including names, addresses, and background data -- even if it is public -- is not allowed.

A new article just came out online at Daily Herald. Says she texted around 1:50 am that she had made it to 294/57. At 2:00 her iPass registered in same area. That makes sense. Then it says her phone pinged near Bourbonnais but didn't give a time. Assume it would be 30 minutes or so later. So it looks like something likely happened after exiting in Bourbonnais. Her phone could have died or someone turned off. Such a mystery.
