I haven't had enough coffee and some of the posts are really confusing for me right now, but I thought the call to the front desk came from inside the building?

My initial reaction to this horrible crime is that the perps are just bad and deranged people. Whether they were always like this, I have no idea, but I think they are just two individuals who are sick in the head and once they crossed paths it was the perfect storm. I think it's very probable that they met online in some sort of fetish forum.

Kind of off topic but it seems disrespectful to call the victim "hair". The man was just brutally murdered.

I don't recall reading the call to front desk came from inside. Here's one snippet:

Officers went to the apartment last Thursday night after the person working at the building’s front desk called to report that he’d received an anonymous call about a crime having been committed in that unit.

RSBM ... Not off topic at all, in my opinion. Very disappointing to see this disrespect allowed toward a murder victim on WS. We're supposed to be better than this.

I guess my thoughts are that, since both people had lived successful middle-class lives into middle age, being promoted into good jobs etc, this kind of crime means that anyone you encounter at the office or socially, could turn out to be a shockingly violent murderer. Since that isn't a very pleasant thought, I'm interested in understanding what happened to them, psychologically. But I agree, their meeting may have lead to something that neither of them would have done on their own.

I agree, the victim should be referred to with respect.

I have a hard time recalling his name dont know why

“They didn’t know each other, other than through academics,” Guglielmi said Tuesday.

The statement is very ambiguous. Does that mean 'academics' as in people who were academics, ie mutual acquaintances? Or a shared interest in the academic study of the plague? Or perhaps that they shared some kind of bond because they both worked in a university setting - which I don't think would be the case.

...

I also don't see any reason how these two would have known each other through academics. Other than both working for Universities (in two different countries), it doesn't seem like they had anything in common through academics. It's not like they were both researching in the same area (or even not the same area). Only one was a scientist, the other was dealing with finances.

Update today - in initial court filings today the prosecutor is stating the murder was the result of an online fantasy between Lathem and Warren to kill someone and then themselves.

that's why Warren just disappeared from his life & left bewildered people behind ... he knew he wasn't ever going back
omg this was all premediated

I can't get Websleuths to cooperate with my link.

Let's try this:

I have the same problem, I've never been able to post a video link here.

New article in today's CNN online with grisly details. This is almost worse than Arias.

The link won't work on here.

Do we know if hair was already in the condo when they got here or Oxford walked in/

Sometimes I cant help but ponder the notion that hair walked in- I would think if your not into that and you walk in without any awareness it could look like someone is trying to kill the other person.

I certainly do not get any attraction to Oxford but hey- I would like to know if proff went out that night

bars close at what 2 5 am killing fits into that as opposed to a night home

Some of pro pics are scary so he might have been a weekend hard core drug user -- maybe someone was drugged

It has been frustrating as it relates to the lack of nuance that has come out from LE- but we are taking gay kinky sex- and I do think that has hampered a willingness talk ?

There is just nothing meaningful coming out that helps us understand - I do think vocation adds to the mystery- which in a bad for lack of a better word is not ok

for some reason it is like I could not have imagined one of my professors killing someone but that is kinda stupid not isnt it?

Victim in downtown high-rise slaying was stabbed dozens of times, had meth in system: autopsy

Who else would know about the body, who else would know the number to call the doorman? Not about good or bad, people have all sorts of reasons for why they do things. Maybe he didn't want the smell to ruin his new drapes
You were right, I was absolutely wrong. :)

This has revealed itself to be far more disturbing than I ever imagined. When I read the articles this afternoon I found myself feeling so sad that such evil exists and spent over 40 years successfully masking their true selves from those they encountered.

What makes this even more troubling is that it seems that neither of these men were under the influence of drugs or alcohol when planning and committing these acts. They did this sober and really thought this out and planed it over significant time.

Looks like people around the good professor didn't really know him at all. I bet it's a shock to them to find out that according to the prosecutor this murder was pre-meditated and he paid for the English guy to travel to US.
By the way it sounds like either one or even both of them are talking. Prosecutor has a lot of details of whom allegedly did what during the murder.

The green garment Warren is wearing must be a suicide vest?

the details being revealed are horrifying, wonder if US authorities have been in contact with or interviewed people in UK, should imagine they will want to access all the computers that were used to plan the murder, the family of the victim must be feeling so much pain knowing how he died, and the families of the suspects must be beyond shocked at what Warren and Latham have done
