Just thinking, LE announced yesterday that Yingying is likely deceased due to what he said in the recorded audio and "other evidence" found during the investigation. I'm assuming this "other evidence" was found by a forensic team in the trunk of the car. He must have transported her somewhere after he killed her, and most likely put her in the trunk to do that.
Sorry if this has already been discussed. Still catching up.
I'm not sure about forensic evidence, it's not been released. But perhaps they're preparing an indictment for murder and it will be released as evidence for that.
I think many potential killers are now well aware of forensic science, and try to figure out ways to avoid leaving any kind of DNA, either of their victim, or themselves. I think this kidnap and murder was completely planned out in advance, every step of the way. (Except for the street camera, he forgot about that)
For eg, he must have had some plan on how to get her into his apartment in the middle of the afternoon without being seen, or her attracting attention. The parking at that Stonegate Village, from Google maps, is that outdoor parking runs around each building, then you have to walk, it seems, to a common locked entrance for your building: They advertise having secured entrances.
That's an enormous risk to take, what if someone was coming out and Yingying got their help (I wish it could have gone that way), or even seen them out a window. If he'd been caught, that'd be game over for his career, no university would accept someone who's tried to kidnap a student.
