Its strange. Its been strange from the outset.
They never said 'there is no body' but it never looked like they knew what they were looking for either.
I think its worth a shot, I think she was/is worth it..
If weather is gonna be a problem in rural areas, its just a question of contacting the landowners and asking them to be vigilant on their own land.
Weather will not affect searching of urban areas.
Those Crimestoppers were involved at the beginning. They have not updated recently, they could possibly get behind it and they would have both le contacts and a local knowledge of area..
There should have been reminders prior to the beginning of harvest, and again during hunting season. I don't know how to make that happen. But perhaps someone in champaign could contact news outlets. IDK.

MrsOBrien??

Is there anything you think should be happening right now?
Any practical efforts that can be made?
Sick of being at the mercy of Bc's sickness here..

I think and it appears others do as well, that one of the things that's really grinding my gears is LE/FBI"s absolute silence pretty much since the day BC was arrested. The single sentence issued was....we believe her to be dead....not, we KNOW shes dead even. Not a word about searches, updates. NOTHING. And no one we as citizens can call and get answers. When I called the FBI tip line to try and find out if Johnson Ross plant was searched I could get no kind of assurances that it was. Or wasn't. Oh , and I realize that the FBI might already know everything they need to but WHY is it being kept from the public?

Let me run a nasty scenario that;s been clogging my brain for weeks now.

The FBI has some video of BC maybe committing murder. Or maybe they only have him saying it. Then somehow his lawyer get's that evidence considered inadmissable. Then what?

I don't know which emotion haunts me the most about this case. The phantom/elitist handling of information by the FBI. Or the look on YY's mother's face everytime she's interviewed. I don't know how much more of this that poor woman can handle.

18?? Snow?? Fluffy white stuff that falls from the sky? I have heard of this.
Trust me. You're not missing much. It's pretty when it falls fom the sky and it freshly covers everything. After that, it's just annoying and makes everything a mess.

The superseding indictment is them pretty much declaring they know she is dead.

It is extremely frustrating for sure, but I tend to think that the reason they are so tight-lipped about this is that they want to avoid compromising anything with the still-ongoing investigation, and they dont want to do anything that might undermine the possibility of getting a conviction. They want to get this thing right, so they are being extra cautious. Remember, they have to get a jury out of a pool of locals, so they pribably dont want too much let out, in part, just for the simple fact that they dont want to make it hard to get an impartial jury. They dont want to do anything that might undermine the trial.

Bc was not Einstein.. he was a narcissistic predator.. did sfa apart from online activities and his daily jaunts to the gym where he apparently invariably arrived with a woman , both were always dressed in black, they never acknowledged any of the other gym people. he stared at himself constantly in the mirror while he was working out..
#PretentiousWannabe
what else did he do in the course of his daily life?
Not a whole pile..
Its likely and possible he only had knowledge of his own local area and the university as a whole.
May not be so difficult after all.
If a local community group contacted LE and asked for their assistance, get relevant permits for searches by relevant personnel.
Throw a shout out to the farmers, the absentee landlords and those who know of gardens, outdoor spaces..

If LE agrees to give some people, it means that the search is worthwhile.
If they refuse.. it may be because a search would be in vain.
Shout -out to web specialists to go for it running and leave no stone unturned..
It won't be rocket science to find his aliases..

If this does not happen, that creepo will get to trade death penalty for her location..

In other words, he gets to benefit from his actions.

Thats antithetical.

Means he gets to desecrate YY and he also gets to desecrate the law..

For the sake of ONE last ditch effort at finding her, why the hell not?
It might bring some comfort to her mum who is facing hospitalisation in china when she returns.. just to know.. people cared.. enough.

They know she is dead - but can they prove she is dead and that BC did it?

However BC took care of Yingying, after the fact, my guess it was in a way that ensures the LEAST amount of physical exertion on his part. He strikes me as being one lazy son of a gun.

That's the $1,000,000.00 question.

From what I have read, they have told Zhidong Wang and the family that they are very confident in the evidence they have. I believe I have also read somewhere that they are confident they will get the go ahead from the DOJ on seeking the death penalty.

The frustrating part is the wait. We will have to wait for a year or more to get answers. Although, if they DO seek the death penalty, there is a possibility we might find out rather quickly after they announce this. If the evidence is clear and overwhelming, my guess is he will do a deal.

do you not think further searching is a good idea?

do you not think further searching is a good idea?

I've read nothing to suggest that they think her remains were totally destroyed and thus there is nothing to be found. I think it is just a matter of they have no solid leads as to where he might have put her, and they have searched through a lot of obvious locations (lakes, ponds, creeks in the area; maybe local landfills), coming up empty. Thus, she could be any number of places within several hours away, and there is no clue where to start looking. IT will be like looking for a needle in a haystack -and oh, the haystack is buried somewhere and the ground doesn't look like it's been disturbed now after all these months.

I would say this. If you live within a few hours drive of Champaign, and there is someplace you think would make a good place to stash a body, or if you saw something suspicious somewhere back in early June? Go check it out. It can't hurt to look. You'll probably come up empty handed, but at least you tried. And you never know, you might just get lucky and put an end to the family's misery.

EDIT: I should say I hope people do keep looking and someone finds something. I don't want him having the ability to make a deal. IF he did this and it is as brutal as rumored, he needs to pay the price for it. Every time I see clips of her mother crying and see the pain on her face in interviews, it just breaks my heart. This should never have happened.

I'm not talking about an occasional person having a look, I am talking about a mega ORGANISED thorough search assisted by local PD and FBI..
People WANT to help, very many people feel deeply about this desecration of innocence.. let them help.
Its the only chance there is to avoid him benefiting from his secret by trading location for the death penalty.

I think a large search is a waste of time — as someone already said the obvious places have probably already been searched and without an official suggestion where to search, the outlying areas are too many and vast in frigid weather. But moreover, I repeat I think there is no body to be found — some of the words in the indictment (“heinous,” “cruel,” “depraved,” “serious physical abuse”) probably apply not only to what happened within BC’s apt. but to his manner of disposal as well. And from the tapes I think the police do know the manner/means of disposal even if they don’t know the final resting place. My biggest concern is whether the defense will have any grounds for calling the tapes inadmissible in court?
If people want to spend time searching anything I'd continue to search the books, movies, games, and websites he favored for hints of what fantasy he may have been carrying out (but that too is a daunting task).

We don't know where she is, and I don't know how to spend the rest of my life without my daughter," said Lifeng Ye, Zhang's mother, her face tear-stained and voice trembling as she spoke through a translator. "I can't really sleep well at night. ... I often dream of my daughter, and she's right there with me. I want to ask the mother of the suspect, please talk to her son and ask him what he did to my daughter. Where is she now? I want to know the answer."

'Mom, don't worry about me. There are Chinese here, Americans here. But everyone is very nice here.'"

— For more than four months, Ronggao Zhang has walked to his missing daughter's apartment almost every day. At first, he stood outside, hoping she would show up one afternoon. But even after he was told she'd been kidnapped and was presumed dead, he's continued his routine.

i think a net search must be run in conjunction with a physical search, assisted and directed by LE,

Zhang was a devoted daughter. At the same time every Saturday, she'd call her parents in Nanping, China. As a graduate research student, she used her meager savings to buy her family a cellphone, an air conditioner and a microwave oven. She planned to become a university professor and help support her father, a factory worker, and mother, a homemaker.

"She never hesitated, even for a moment, when others needed help," said her boyfriend, who put his doctoral studies on hold to join Zhang's family here. He said her selflessness was what attracted him to Zhang when they met in their first year in college. She also knew how to have fun, playing guitar and singing lead in a band called "Cute Horse."

When authorities provided scanned pages of Zhang's diary to the family, Hou said it hurt too much to read them thoroughly. She wrote regularly of long-term and short-term goals and meticulously detailed how she organized her day — 20 minutes for breakfast, 20 minutes for jogging.

Wanted to share a few things that I’ve known for awhile, but didn’t know if I should post or not. My father is a garbage man in champaign and has been for 32 years, and happens to pickup stonegate apartments.

He informed the FBI has indeed quarantined a section of the landfill where he dumps, and searching. He also said they will be able to go through and eventually find her. The chatter around the landfill was that the FBI are looking for a very large duffel bag, as a witness seen BC throwing one away in the dumpster at his complex.
