Here's what I use in case anyone is looking for an alternative. I was lucky because my dog that just passed was allergic to just about everything under the sun. Consequently I had to use a specific brand. It has not been affected by the recall...yet anyway.

I've used that one.. If I recall correctly, I tossed it because I thought it was making my dogs sick.. However, I think it was the wet food I mixed with this one.

I use both in the allergy mix which doesn't have a lot of the things my dog was allergic to.

Good that your other dogs haven't gotten sick. I think the canned foods in question was "cuts in gravy". This whole thing has probably gotten pet owners to take notice that maybe there is no difference in the "cheap" vs "premium" brand dog foods. They're made at the same place with the same ingredients.

That was my thought when I saw the recall list. We're paying for the name essentially. Both of my dogs eat dry. If they get moist food, it's people food after dinner. The little Jack Russell will HAUL bootie to his bowl after dinner and I get up. He knows the drill. LOL

I'm getting conflicting information. My friend just called me a little while ago about the recall expanding to dry food, which is what we feed my Lab. Mabel's list includes the Nutro brand, which is what my dog gets, but Nutro's website says no dry foods have been recalled. Can anyone please tell me if Nutro Ultra Large Breed Adult is safe????

She's acting fine.

Link to recalled foods. Hope that helps.

alright, what the hell is going on here. mabel, where did you get that information? all those dog foods don't even come from the same company.. unless they all merged since the last time i checked. are they saying they think some of the raw ingredients (from china or whatever) that may have been shipped to ALL these companies.. was tainted? if so, are there people dying from it too? or was this grain (or whatever) that was put aside from pet food only?

that list you supplied that has one or 2 dogs & cats that have gotten sick or died (supposedly) from certain foods.. since the case has 'expanded'. are you sure some of those cases aren't mistaken, perhaps caused by the hysteria surrounding this? are all of these cases actually confirmed by vets-- i.e., were they ALL verified to have gotten sick from rat poison, from these foods? or are people just assuming it's from the food without backing it up with facts....?

i just know how people get when these things happen.. plus they start to get dollar signs in their eyes. i wouldn't put it past some depraved individuals out there to actually give a little bit of poison to their own pets in order to cash in on the lawsuit.

You can probably count on it, people are low.

Sorry, I don't know any of the answers to your questions.

although i have yet to find any info on the internet, my local 6 PM newscast said that hills science diet, dry, for felines, was now included in the recall.

i took note of that since my 6 cats all have just recently eaten hill's, i finished a bag just this morning!!

very worried at this point.

I heard the very same thing on my local news. Hope all is well with your kitties.

Edited: Oh good, I see what we heard has been clarified.

Good grief. Special Kitty dry is what I have always fed my cat who is now living with my daughter and still eating it. Does anyone know if the dog food Purine Moist and Meaty in the packets is okay? My dog vomited after eating the homemade dog food so I thought surely that Purina was okay. It's just the chewy dog food and not in gravy or a can.

thanks to Jaded, Jack, and Wind Chime for providing additional info and comfort in my moment of distress! i think i am in the clear as my little ones eat the "science" diet.

this thing sure is scary isn't it?

I tell you, I was about to think I can't get a break!! I have had my cats on Hills Prescription k/d Diet. My older cats (both 15) were put on the dry recently, even after the most recent scare because of their elevated kidney values!!

I hope everyone here and their precious pets are doing well :) Those of you who have lost or have sick furbabies due to this MESS, my thoughts are with you :)

NOTE
MGP Ingredients Inc. said it's not involved in a recall by Menu Foods Inc. because it has been 18 months the company supplied gluten to the pet-foods maker.
http://www.stockhouse.ca

NOTE
..The IWGA lists a variety of ways wheat gluten is used including in aquaculture, breakfast cereals and tortillas. It said significant quantities of vital wheat gluten are used by the pet food industry...

In dry dog biscuits, incorporating gluten into the dough before baking can improve resistance to breaking during packaging and shipping...
http://tinyurl.com/2w5rld

The FDA was working to rule out the possibility that the contaminated wheat gluten could have made it into any human food.

My sympathy for all those who have lost a companion(s) because of this. If we buy our pet food, we're really at the companies' mercy. I can check the ingredients all I want but that won't save my pets from something like this. I guess if I can make it out the door and to the store without being raped, mugged, robbed, abducted or killed...go inside and buy the petfood...leave and make home without being raped, mugged, robbed, abducted or killed- then I only run the risk of killing my pets.

I am just so outraged at all this!:furious:
I don't feed my furbabies anything on the lists. I feel for those pet owners who go out their way to provide the best food they can for their pupsters, and then this happens! If Iams and Eukanuba have the same ingredients as Old Roy and store brands, why would anyone pay MORE for the "premium" food? I think pet owners have been scammed all along.
