If pre-teens walking alone on paths was as common as you say, we'd hear of a lot more cases like this. As a predator, a hiking path with no one around is not a place you'd head to in order to find a child alone.Just to clarify, because this has been discussed:
"Who, in this day and age, lets their young girls go walk in the bush alone?"
and it has been stated that for the area they lived, it was not unusual at all.
also: Delphi has a population of about 3000 people. If he was local, everyone in town could identify who is in that picture.
Members here who live in very small (if not smaller towns) have opined they don't know many of the people in their own neighborhood.
I find it hard to believe that one would know each of the 3000 people in town.
Also, when you state something is "unlikely", what do you base that opinon on if I may ask? Gut feeling, research? Having been here since thread one, I am curious how you arrive at your conclusions.
First time posting, been reading from close to the start. When I first saw the pictures, I was reminded of my cousin when he worked at a local slaughterhouse. He wore an apron that looks like the one BG is wearing. Brown in color and comes down to the upper thighs. Also, when he worked there his entire personality changed. He was irritable and often angry. He would fly off the handle over small things. He quit after two months. He says it was just too much. Could BG have worked at the slaughterhouse? <modsnip>

So because someone says they don't know their neighbor, that is proof positive he's local?
Google how many grocery stores there are in Delphi. Gas stations? Coffee shops? Restaurants? The places that people use every day... locals are also regulars. They have to make an income. They have to eat. They need products. In a small town of 3000, Crazy Bill the hermit is called Crazy Bill the hermit because everyone knows Crazy Bill is crazy and lives like a hermit in his small house in the woods. Someone would recognize him. Oh yeah, that's the guy who fills up that old truck once a week... Oh yeah, that's the guy who buys bananas and granola bars every week... Oh yeah... that's Crazy Bill the hermit who lives a few houses down.
In cases like this, where people go in endless circles and out on very far limbs to try and solve it, sometimes they lose sight of the obvious. Sometimes, they have to attach some sort of sinister genius to the perp because he somehow got away with it. Sometimes, certain sleuths' opinions are taken as gospel, rather than scrutinized.
No one can state anything for certain, myself included, therefore the use of likely and unlikely is fair and honest... and open for debate. My opinions are based in reality. There is a reality to this. Very rare is the case that there is some sinister, devious master plan behind it all. Anything is possible, but possible doesn't always equal plausible.
Something as simple as wearing long pants and shoes hints more that he likelt didn't plan to cross a creek... rather than he had a master plan, was a local who knew the area like the back of his hand, and managed to time meeting them right where he wanted them as they walked, luckily, with no one else around.
That's just the reality. Sometimes being there from thread 1 clouds judgement and creates bias.
I suppose the deleted comments by a sleuther had to do with my query about wading boots. I had been repeating today that i didn't believe BG PLANNED ahead of time to cross the river, because of the way he was dressed. The commenter probably didnt connect all my comments. Sorry if i was vague. Gkids borrowed my better computer and i can barely process on the one they left me.
lol
Thank you for replying. I've wanted to post that for a long time. Just hesitated because some websites have members that are less then friendly to newcomers.

Big town, small town, everyone recognizes people they don't know simply because you both work or live or commute in the same area on a regular basis.Actually being here from thread one has afforded me the luxury of hearing facts, opinions and more importantly (to me) information opined by actual residents and/or people with similar living experiences.
I take a lot of notes and base my opinions on facts that I have gathered from many sources.
I do agree with you that an open mind is a must when looking at any case.
Oh good!FWIW I understood your comment perfectly.

Does everyone know everyone else personally in a small town? Of course not. The reality is that if this happened in your small town, you'd likely be able to remember a time you crossed paths with the person in the picture, if he was local.
Too much time has passed. How many locals could possibly look similar to the sketch? Out of 3000? 10? Not even.
The lack of a break at this point hints that this is one of those cases that won't be solved until he gets caught for something else and is forced to provide a DNA sample... likely a few states away.
There's always a chance LE has a local suspect under watch and are case building, but typically there would have been some sort of action by now, either by LE or those involved.

I've looked at that photo many times, and, to me, it makes sense that BG could be wearing a brown apron. Therefore, he could possibly have worked at a slaughterhouse.
JMVHO.
If you worked in a slaughterhouse, would you be likely to wear the apron out of work? I think it looks like a bum bag, but do American walk around with them? I have seen them on American tourists, overseas, but don't know if they are worn at home.
WADR these girls weren't pre-teens and were not children nor alone. They were on a hike within a mile of one of their own homes and had every reason to feel safe . It was almost Abbey's back yard. We can only speculate but these facts are the basis. If pre-teens walking alone on paths was as common as you say, we'd hear of a lot more cases like this. I'm glad you wrote this. This may sound weird, but brown is a less common color for clothes, unless its a sports team shirt. (I work in clothing depts at a store). Anyways, today i was trying to figure out, along with others, what that brown thing is that BG was wearing.First time posting, been reading from close to the start.
