Does anyone have any idea as to why LE IN have asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to look at this case, why not the FBI? TIA
Consider Indiana doesn't need Georgia's help but is sharing to link an unsolved Georgia case.

Unfortunately Indiana doesn’t allow familial DNA searches. For months they did cheek swabs which leads me to believe they have DNA.

According to Sgt. Holeman they hadn't finished DNA testing evidence at the time the sketch was released. So they might have been taking swabs for DNA to be on file when they had got the final DNA evidence processed.

When DN was arrested in CO, ISP said they would know in a week whether they would be interested in him.
A week sounded to me like time to establish a link to some evidence...rightly or wrongly I believe that would be DNA evidence found at the scene. Touch DNA since it took so long to process.
DN didn't match apparently - so IMHO that is why he dropped off their active interest list.
Any way its good to know that there is something that LE has that they feel comfortable checking POIs against to make them more or less interesting to their investigation.

I did not know that IN doesnt allow familial DNA searches.
Too bad -- it seems likely that familial DNA would help solve this case.

I believe they have since changed this. Anyone?

It might, it might not. Might open up some ethical issues about privacy. None come to mind at the moment, though, especially when trying to solve a murder, but there could be some issues come up not even thought about (maybe watched too much Dark Mirror).

I am interested in the DNA profile though, and wonder about the eyes not being blue.

I wanted to take a moment to thank the diehards who have been here working hard to figure out as much as we can in our limited platform. There may be some disagreements that come up from time to time, but for the regulars we work hard to keep this thread open and the good thinking going.

I wonder about this... I guess in regards to what they BELIEVE is criminal activity about to be recorded. It makes me think the recording ended soon after the DTH part.

“This young lady is a hero, there is no doubt, to have enough presence of mind to activate the video system on her cellphone to record what we believe is criminal behavior that is about to occur.”

. If LE believed they walked all that way, where's all the crime tape? Wouldn't LE consider BG dropped something along the way?

I thought about this as well. IMO that issue applies to all parts of the woods, wherever BG may have entered, explored, hung around, left, as well as walked the girls, they'd want to track his movements and look for anything he might have dropped: cigarette butts, bottle caps, drivers license (live in hope), anything.

From looking at videos/photos, they put crime scene tape across the SE end of the bridge, and in an area well south of the trail from the cemetery, where the remains were found. They don't appear to have put it anywhere else, though I could have missed it. But basically, they appear to have simply blocked public access to the area, and blocked off where the remains were found to ensure anyone entering that area was in full bio-containment suits, to avoid contaminating forensic samples.

Hi heartgoesout,

IIRC last summer the law in IN changed to allow DNA collection from anyone arrested. I might be wrong, but I don’t recall reading anything about familial DNA.
Yes, yes you are right. That’s what it was. Thank you!

The privacy laws surrounding DNA profiling are so strict. I’m thinking if you commit a heinous crime, you lose that privilege of privacy protection. There have been several cases in which they entered someone’s DNA in CODIS only to have a family member pop up because the match was so similar. It just presented itself to them.

Thanks, Rip Meagen +Johnny,

I am aware of the FBI assisting in the Delphi case, however, I am puzzled, why now the GBI, what piece, in this case, is missing? I know LE is crying out for this one person to come forward but why is this so important?
When I looked again at at the Flora Fire case today, I became increasingly worried. Two high profile cases, are these cases beyond the realm of what IN LE can handle?

I wonder if there is one madman responsible for both crimes. You would think it would be easier to solve that way.

Yes, there are barriers in the landscape between where the girls were and Abby's house. I have talked about this before. It is not as direct as it looks and it certainly isn't a distance I would try to travel or traverse if I were being chased. If I were being chased at that location, there are several other places I would have attempted to reach first.

Haven't posted for a while, but, thanks everyone for contributing to Abby & Libby's thread. I am somewhat of a local and even called in a tip.
Anyway, what really perplexed me was LE releasing a "still" picture of BG and then releasing a sketch of BG, but
we're told to disregard those images and focus on his clothing.

My goodness, the majority of my small Indiana town dresses just like BG- even my FIL who is a farmer.

I was remembering a similarly big case of a young teen, Yara Gambirasio, abducted and killed in Italy. It was in large part solved by tracing family DNA to the perps deceased father, and then figuring out which was the local woman he'd had an affair with, to locate his son. Certainly a major violation of privacy, but I believe the DNA was all given voluntarily. Italy is very different from the US.

I have always been perplexed by the spot on the right side of BG’s jeans.
This has beed discussed in previous threads but none of the theories I read seemed to explain it imo. I think it looks painted on.
Perhaps Whatever that is on his jeans explains why we are being told to focus on the clothes. If that is painted on surely someone who knows him would recognize that unusual pair of jeans, or if it is some sort of utility belt a coworker or family member might recognize that.
