In our neighborhood about three years ago a very attractive....nicely dressed young female came to my door around noon. I have a strong security door that has thick glass so I can see who is at the door without unlocking it. She seemed so unassuming. I really thought she was in college perhaps. She was around 20 just guessing. She had some papers in her hand so I felt safe enough and opened the door. When I did I noticed she had strangely parked her white vehicle at the very end of our driveway and walked all the way up to our home.. which no one ever does. I also noticed there were two guys about her age with her. One was in the passenger seat and one was in the backseat. All of a sudden I felt something wasn't just right but remained cool. She asked me if I knew anyone who was elderly in our neighborhood who was deaf and also saying she was wanting to inform them about government programs they could obtain free. Oh, she was very good, and so polished. She had it all down pat. She wanted to come inside to discuss it with me but I just kept standing on the porch, listening. I really thought she was legitimate and I am not one to trust a stranger at my door.
My mind at the time went blank for the moment and thank goodness I told her I didn't know anyone. But another neighbor fell for it and told her Mr. C down the road had serious hearing problems. Mr, and Mrs. C lived alone and are in their late 70s. The next day she came to their home and they let her inside so that she could tell Mrs. C about the programs. So she sits there and talks and talks with them keeping them occupied and meantime the other two males had come in their backdoor and snuck down the hallway. They stole money, guns, and jewelry out of their bedroom. They didn't even know it until they started to bed that night. I gave the police a description of the young woman and the car she was driving. She had made sure her tag was where I couldn't see it and she parked so far away so I couldn't get a good look at the males. imo
I never knew if they caught them or not. Now fast forward to last year. The same young woman came to my door again. This time I did not open the door and yelled through the door that I couldn't open the door because of my two dogs and believe me they were growling and barking like crazy.
She finally left when she knew I wasn't going to open the door. But I did pick up the phone and dialed 911 to ask them if they ever found the ones who went into Mr and Mrs Cs home three years ago. They checked and they had not been able to locate them all that time. I told them if they had a Deputy close by he would be able to stop her before she and the two males left our subdivision. Before I knew it I heard the sirens and they pulled her over.
And we live in a very safe neighborhood but bad people can be anywhere and are nowadays.
