I think he maybe just stopped drinking?
It was only a few days that they left after her death right ? He did not submit to questioning So it’s not a whole lot of time to lose a lot of weight - I don’t see much of a difference in any of his photos ?

I think it's more likely that this was going to be viewed as a tragic accident until the family (and specifically the attorney) started calling attention to it, which both got the police involved, and the cruise line looking closely at the footage.

People would have had a LOT more sympathy if the family had not filed a lawsuit less than 24 hours after this happened.

They almost immediately found a lawyer in order to sue the cruise ship.

Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas ship.
Mum’s ‘screams of pain’ as her toddler falls to her death from Royal Caribbean cruise ship while grandad sat her on window ledge

The girl fell from Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas ship and plunged 150 feet on to the concrete dock

He sat her on the ledge and dropped her and you are on his side? What about Chloe? This isn’t a moment of distraction this is reckless negligent Homicide and he has been rightly charged IMO

Even if she had not fallen to her death, he should be charged with a crime.

I see it.
But if I had an apt, let's say 11 floors up, I definitely wouldn't be leaving windows open. You can be sure of that! Is every floor like that? With some open and some closed windows?
Please view the photo - he sat the baby on the ledge similar to this one - there is no ledge when the window is closed therefore he had to know the window was open and placed her in incredible danger which resulted in her death IMO

But then again, the ship serves alcohol so the ship should be extra careful knowing that fact. Its not a perfect science as to the line where alcohol affects people. Or what about if someone trips? What about if someone's vision is not as good?
There's a whole lot of cruise accidents. Another one recently.
(I might eat my words later if I see the video).

20/20 hindsight? Or a Lick of Common Sense/Reasonable Person?
If an adult puts 18 mo old on chest-high, rounded rail, either standing or sitting, and fails to keep a firm grip on tot, to prevent a 36 - 46 inch fall to floor, just takes a bit of common sense to understand a tot falling from that short height could incur serious injury, e.g., broken arm, fractured femur, broken spine, traumatic brain injury.
And if adult stands close to window, while putting tot on that rail (or window sill), and the (potential) drop is 100+ feet, result of fall is not going to be 'just' serious injury.

If g'pa did not have that much common sense,

or
if he decided to ignore those ^ risks,
he was negligent.
(20//20 hindsight not needed)
And his negligence caused Chloe's death.
Negligent Homicide. Guilty. jmo.

That's a tough one. I'm afraid of heighths. He said he thought there was glass in it. So since that's what he thought, I'm buying it.
Me? I don't even have hard end tables like most people...just soft bench type things, bins around beds..that kind of thing. I look amazed at people who don't hold their kids hands going down steps. But I see it on youtube family blogs all the time.
So yeah, I'm pretty cautious. But, nonetheless, I give others the benefit of the doubt. Not everybody is a 'Family Safety Director' like me.
But we here have 20/20 hindsight. That's way easier.

True, it was 4 days, but I still see a dramatic change in the airport photos.
He looks very different in the those photos than in any other photo of him at any time, before or since. Makes sense to me.

You accept his word that he thought there was glass there. Have you seen the picture of the open vs closed windows ?

Can you see the difference between open vs closed? I think anyone could.

And the video showed that he looked 'out of the window' BEFORE he picked up the child to put her on the rail. How could he look out of the window opening and not know there was no glass there?

@katydid :)
I'm using a small-ish tablet, easy to distinguish open windows from closed.
If @Aydrianna523 and others are using phones, could be hard to tell.
But IRL on board the ship, that is, life size, seems it would be difficult not to notice. jmo

Guys always think they're stronger than they are. The usually hold one handed.
But if he knew the window was open, I'll change my mind.
Actually. I forgot. I did come close to dropping a child last year.
I'm a senior. That actually could have a bearing on this whole case. He's older. Maybe never dropped a kid his whole life.
But realistically do we think the cruise ship will leave the windows on that deck open again. I'm gonna say 'no'. Nobody usually does anything til there's a death.
My opinion is subject to change.

He's actually not a senior. He's only 51.

They say the ledge wasn’t on the window. It was in front of it, a foot or so away. So it wasn’t as if he was lying about knowing if the window was there while actually seating her on the window ledge.

And I don’t believe the planned murder theories.

However, what’s hard to understand is how he didn’t feel a lot of air coming from that space. It’s a ship and many people pointed out how the air would be rushing through any opening.

He reportedly refused a breathalyzer. I believe the man was under the influence and maybe as a result didn’t think the window was there.

That would amount to criminal negligence. Could be reckless depending on the jurisdiction.

I don't believe a word he says. The story has changed and evolved since it first happened, and that interview was awful to watch. He couldn't even look the interviewer in the eye. The he started the fake crying at the end of it, kind of like the parents' interview a WEEK(!) after the "accident". He's full of bovine excrement, IMHOO.

Ive been on many RCCL cruises and you are correct there just is no mistaking the strong breeze blowing through open windows - I’m going in 3 weeks (not on freedom but deck 11 is similar) - and will do some measuring - I wish the video would be released but they charged him so I believe it shows him leaning out the window first then lifting her up so that destroys the theory that he thought there was a window

Is there a way to find out if he had been drinking?

There is a paper trail for all shipboard purchases, so if SA had drink/s, there's a record of it. I'm sure LE had this information right away. There will also be a record of purchases made by other family members, so LE knows if the parents or grandparents had also consumed any alcohol onboard.
