I do think it benefits the accused. Outrage is cooled if nothing else.

I've been wondering what would happen if the victims decided they didn't want to testify.

IIRC, there was a no contact order placed on him, which expired (I should go back and look). I looked for one in here Search Protective Orders and No Contact Orders but couldn't fine anything. Maybe it's in a confidential database?
