I'm not understanding their reasoning behind putting the trial into the middle of January. If Covid is the real reason, I doubt that it will be better then plus it's flu season. CaCo has only had 239 cases of Covid.

"However, there are concerns that the virus is starting to spread in the Midwest and in rural areas where medical services aren’t as plentiful as in other regions." So probably just an abundance of caution which you can't argue with considering we are still all in a pandemic.

There's a lot to take into consideration with this case.

This is the fourth time they have rescheduled his case. If he was charged with a lesser offense, I might not have as much as a problem with that. Being accused of molesting children puts him at the top of my list of people I want to either see cleared or imprisoned.

If I'm reading his court records correctly, it was just over a year ago that he was charged and he's been out on bond this entire time. Now they've given him another (almost ) 5 months of freedom.

Other Indiana courts have resumed their jury trials in courtrooms where there is sufficient room to social distance. If Carroll Co's building is big enough, then I think they should have gone ahead with his trial. I'd be really surprised if our Covid situation is better in January.

You're right about the nature of the charges against him needing quick attention. IMO this guy, while innocent until proven guilty, has such a background with other phyically violent acts, charges and convictions that I would be surprised if he wasn't being watch by LE while out on bond. I'm still wondering if this case, by way of kids the same age and sex, isnt tied somehow to the Delphi case. JMO

Or another male relative of his possibly with the same inclinations and access??
 
With all my research of this case imo he is directly tied to Delphi Murders.... His business also is directly across the street from the Flora fires.. and who knows how to control 2 little girls better then someone who has twins??
 
When I think of Delphi, I often think of Flora, too. I lean towards associates of the Kirts' bunch being involved in those 6 murders.

I found this older article about the fire and Carter's comment I bolded was a bit of a surprise to me:

"Over time people are starting to talk to us about that place, about that home, about that area around that home," said Carter.

He says investigators are now aware of "some of the activities in and around that residence in the days, weeks and months leading up to the fire."

Flora's population is about 2000 and I find it hard to believe that local LE don't know what goes on in their town.

Wow...so Sua Sponte means action(s) taken by judge with no motions or prompting from the parties. Seems the judge has had it with the defendant's postponements and cancellations and means business about him showing up for Pretrial on the 22nd.

He must have been told yesterday that the defendant couldn't make the session scheduled for tomorrow and said that's it, do it again and I'm issuing a bench warrant.
 
On Monday, Indiana Supreme Court suspended all jury trials until March 1, 2021.

Trial was set to start on 1/11/21 continued due to COVID to 5/10/21 thru 5/12/21.
