WHO says Shifa ‘not functioning as a hospital anymore’; Hamas claims babies, patients died

The World Health Organization claims that Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital is “not functioning as a hospital anymore.”

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweets that the UN body has restored communication with its contacts at the Gaza Strip’s biggest hospital, lamenting that “the situation is dire and perilous,” that the doctors are working without electricity or water and that “the number of patient fatalities has increased significantly.”

He calls for an immediate ceasefire.

[...]

... The military promised to help transfer babies to safety, but has said officials have prevented this. The IDF also says it offered the hospital 300 liters of fuel, but that Hamas prevented the hospital staff from accepting it.

Shifa director Mohammad Abu Salmiya has told journalists the Israeli claims are “lies,” arguing that the 300 liters would power generators for “no more than quarter of an hour” anyway.
Why is the WHO chief parroting Hamas rather than speaking directly to hospital staff - who are making arrangements to evacuate babies? Why isn't the WHO assisting with ensuring that the fuel delivered to the hospital is used by the hospital staff?

My mind is baffled at what is going on with the sudden world wide hatred at Israel for what needs to happen.

In my opine gaza strip needs to wiped clean of hamas and supporters of hamas.

Elections in 2006 put hamas palestinians in control.

17 years.

Half of gazas population is under eighteen.

Brainwashed?

I think we saw proof of the brainwashing when we saw the video of the school performance of their little kids using toy machine guns and toy grenades.

I think Hamas must have been approached about a ceasefire, as their response is that they won't negotiate about hostage release until there is a ceasefire.
And Israel says it won't participate in a ceasefire unless the hostages are released. Link

Stalemate. imo
I am speaking about the ”peaceful protests” demanding a ceasefire. Heads of state demanding a ceasefire. Hamas has been clear. Ceasefire is meaningless, as they plan to do 10/7 over and over. We’ve heard many of them state this.

Well, there you have it. The EU is calling them out for using the hospital and Gazans as human shields. Soooooo….yeah.

We call on Hamas to immediately & unconditional release all hostages. We condemn the use of hospitals and civilians as human shields by Hamas. Civilians must be allowed to leave the combat zone. Hostilities are severely impacting hospitals & taking a horrific toll on civilians.
It's about darn time. It would be nice to see WHO, ICRC, etc. follow suit, but I won't hold my breath. MOO

Well I be, WHO makes contact with the hospital !!!!

Ain't buying this load of bologna!!!

WHO has contacts in IDF and the Israel government. They can easily verify these are lies.

Moo...this is a pattern with WHO, avoidance the same as with origins of a virus.

Moo...

Our troops risked their lives to hand-deliver 300 liters of fuel to the Shifa hospital for urgent medical purposes.Hamas forbade the hospital from taking it. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry has been warning for weeks that its hospitals are running out of fuel. If so, why would they prevent the hospital from receiving it?

Biden discusses efforts to secure hostage deal with Qatari leader

US President Joe Biden discussed efforts to secure the release of the roughly 240 hostages being held by terror groups in Gaza during his latest phone call with Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani earlier today.

Biden “condemned unequivocally the holding of hostages by Hamas, including many young children, one of whom is a 3-year old American citizen toddler, whose parents were killed by Hamas on October 7,” the White House says, highlighting the specific plight of a young American hostage for what appears to be the first time.

Biden also expressed his appreciation to Qatar for its efforts in mediating the release of four hostages last month, two of whom were US citizens, the White House says.

The two leaders discussed the need to protect civilians in Gaza and ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave, the White House readout adds, noting that Biden also welcomed the $100 million commitment from the Gulf Cooperation Council to support the humanitarian response, which matched the US contribution announced last month.

Biden “affirmed his vision for a future Palestinian state where Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side with equal measures of stability and dignity. arguing that Hamas has been an impediment to this outcome, according to the White House readout.

Hamas suspends hostage negotiations due to Israel's handling of al-Shifa hospital in Gaza ,
Reuters reports.

Meanwhile, in an interview with NBC on Sunday, the Israeli prime minister said that "there may be"
a potential agreement to release some of the 239 hostages.
However, he did not provide details.

Israel mustn’t stop war on terrorists who cut off heads - British DM

The UK Defense Secretary compared the IDF aerial bombings of Gaza with the British and American bombing of the German city of Dresden during World War II.

Great Britain would not be told to halt its war on a terror group that attacked its sovereign territory and cut off the heads of its citizens, UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps told the BBC on Sunday.

“If Britain had been subject to an attack of terrorists coming and murdering [1,200] people and cutting off heads, and we knew where those terrorists had gone, no one would say to Britain stop going after them,” Shapps said.

Is it true that there are Hamas leaders in Qatar and other places? How will Israel eradicate those? They can‘t attack Qatar next, can they?

Once the cloak of a lie is removed... the ugly naked truth is clear for all to see.

ETA: The sad part is that some people just refuse to look.
At this point it's willful ignorance and that is all there is to it. If someone can't see what HAMAS is doing and has done (both to Israel AND to Palestinians both before and after Oct 7th), then those people are just choosing not to see it. We can't make people, but we also don't have to listen to them either. If they only wish to say Israel is at fault because it's bombing GAZA and hospitals are at risk and babies are dying.. BUT they don't see that HAMAS has created this problem, HAMAS continues to withhold supplies, fuel, and safety by setting up in these places and then shooting at their own people, not making it safe for them to leave, telling them to stay to die a martyr. They are sabotaging their own people and blaming Israel. Israel has no obligation to stop because innocent civilians that HAMAS is putting in harms way might die. They have done more than what is reasonable to get so many people to evacuate. HAMAS has been the single biggest issue in preventing the movement of civilians out of harms way. I'd say again that isn't Israel's fault, yet "talking heads" still say Israel should stop bombing for xyz reason. HAMAS won't stop bombing.. so only suggesting Israel to stop is again ridiculous and just willful ignorance on the part of many. That won't help anyone and it certainly won't help innocent civilians get out of harms way because HAMAS has no desire to help anyone get out of harms way.. not even the premature babies!

These are the countries who are voting at the UN Security Council. They are the countries who are voting on the UN approach to this war.
I just wanted to put this here so that people can see the different backgrounds and beliefs among the UN Security Council decision makers.
