A search operation in Tenerife for a missing British teenager has entered its seventh day.
Jay Slater, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, went missing last week after attending a music festival on the Spanish island.
The 19-year-old has not been heard from since he called a friend on Monday, saying he was lost and needed water.

Search teams were seen on Sunday morning focusing on some small outbuildings near to where his phone was last located.

Specialist dog teams have also been out searching for Mr Slater.

-On Saturday, the sixth day of the search operation, police, rescue dog teams and firefighters resumed combing the mountainous terrain at Rural de Teno National Park - Mr Slater's last known location

"Rescue teams

spotted searching small hut

close to where phone 'pinged' on Monday.

Rescue teams looking for Jay Slater have been searching in and around this small hut here north of Masca today.

It is situated in an area very close by to where his mobile phone is said to have 'pinged' on Monday morning.

The search is now in its seventh day."

Mark Williams-Thomas has offered to help search for Jay Slater:

I won't pretend to know anything about Tenerife specifically, but I will say the terrain in the area where Jay went missing looks like the kind of terrain where a person might never be found. It will be a nightmare for the search team.
I get the same impression. I do think they'll find his body eventually, but there's no telling when that will be.

So Jay was last heard from Monday morning-and when did the official search begin? Just wondering how far he may have been able to get from his last known location.

Reporter James Holt, from our sister site Manchester Evening News travelled to the sight where the teen was allegedly seen and described the scene.

He told Express.co.uk: "So the village is around 20 minutes drive from Masca (where his holiday home was). If you’re travelling to Masca and the Rural de Teno national park, you go through it from the south of the island before turning off up a narrow and dangerous road through the hilly landscape.

"The small villages with just a few shops, cafes and a church, is positioned right at the bottom of one of the mountains. Today (June 23), a number of shops were closed - it was very quiet with just the odd car passing through."

He told Express.co.uk: "Now if Jay made it there on foot somehow, it would take hours. It’s about 7km from the search base, just about half a mile north of Masca village, and takes at least two hours up extremely steep and challenging roads.

"In that village there wasn’t any police presence when I attended."
However, the civil guard are yet to confirm which avenues they are exploring.

James added: "Today most shops were closed it was very quiet with not much activity. I would say if he had been there, in an evening, bars and restaurants would have been open and people could’ve helped so it makes the sighting seem less plausible. It’s still around 30km from where he was staying."

GB News host Anne Diamond said: "There's a lot we're not being told, which I suppose you can understand at the moment.

"But for instance, the two British men he was seen with at one point were staying in a bed and breakfast type place or rented accommodation, and the press and the police have already spoken to the landlady there. So there must be things that we're not being told that they're also looking into."

He responded: "There's all sorts of speculation on on social media and matters that have been reported in the press about Jay's past and these things will be being looked into.

"There's been another possible sighting several hours later that his mum's highlighted. But the Spanish police do seem to be focusing on this theory that he's got lost himself.

"They're basing it on the idea that he rang up and said that he was lost. So they seem to be discounting any elements of criminality or some kind of kidnap, and they're really focusing on this area of the park."

Came here because I can’t stomach the social media pages any longer. The amount of vile, horrible human beings on this earth is astounding. I pray this young man is found and brought back to his family . JMO , but I don’t believe anything criminal has happened in this case. I believe this young man was up all night partying ( as you do when you’re young ) , ended up in the mountain and unfortunately has either fell or collapsed and passed out .
Lots of experienced hikers with the correct gear and equipment lose their lives on mountains due to misadventure every year why is it so hard to believe a young boy , who obviously was not in his best state , with no experience of mountains or had correct gear on , has had a misadventure ?

PH Build Group's statement on Facebook reads: "Our Jay is still missing!

"We have decided to remove our last post due to all the negative comments and conspiracy theories.

"Jay has been with us since he left school and is liked by all. He's a valued member of our team and we stand by him.

"The picture being painted of him is just not true. The fact is he's a 19-year-old lad missing in a foreign country. He needs to be back home where he belongs. Come on Jay we are all praying for you." ❤️

I have been coming here - more for the facts as other platforms are full of nonsense.

My personal feeling is he went back with these guys to collect something, had a cig whilst there and set of for the bus, realising he had so long to wait has travelled to the next stop and taken a path, that’s perhaps not began as dangerous when it first began, but certainly Lucy’s story has varried for whatever reasons which leaves me feeling slightly suspicious. I also understand this could just be a young lass who’s desperate to find her friend and feels awful who was also out, so possibly doesn’t remember as accurately as people expect.

I think that's an overwhelmingly likely scenario. There's just enough information here to keep imaginations running wild, but this seems very straight forward to me. No he's not stuck on a cactus. No you're not going to be able to lure him out by leaving food. Google earth isn't a live satellite view, and you're not going to be able to zoom in and find him. Jeepers.

I was thinking that today, we need a more robust timeline, such as when Lucy went to the area how much time has elapsed etc. well we have no right to know but would be useful to build a picture. I assume the police will know this anyway.

I agree he quite probably did set off with the intention of walking to the next bus stop, and the one after that possibly- so why wander off the path? If he did wander off did he take Lucy’s advice and head back to where he came from and then carry on along the road? Walking to the bus theory would also lead him to the next town which has the potential sighting of him at 6pm if he stuck to the road he was seen walking along. Still at 6pm he wasn’t known by the wider public to be missing so although noticed, no one would have thought much of some bloke who appeared slightly out of it early evening, sat with 2 other men (until a few days later when he was all over the press and that person went to the effort of even getting the CCTV to share with the police) At this point he could have easily been in one of the cafes or even several unnoticed. I doubt he had no cash on him as he had some in his room, so the chances are he left some and carried some. If this was him, it creates a whole different search area and a whole different thought process. At the moment the search has seemed very heavily focused on the assumption he was out of it either on drugs or alcohol and that for some unknown reason cross country looked more appealing than the roads. Are the buildings they are now searching closer to this possible new sighting?

Hello all I’m back after serving a 3day thread ban for querying the money being raised (my first ever ban I’m usually a good girl I think )

I hoped by end of my ban this case would’ve been resolved but unfortunately not.

Many cases with high media attention often attract conspiracy theorists and the worst in some people but honestly in my years of following cases this has to be the one with the most toxic posts on online platforms.

Unfortunately, this IMO is now a recovery mission I hope that his body is found soon so that his family can grieve in peace without this online scrutiny.

A map showing the timeline of Jay Slater's disappearance

Jay leaves the party and gets into a car with two men he had met that night.

7.30am – He posts a picture on Snapchat showing him at the doorway of a property, tagged with the location Parque Rural de Teno.

He is seen wearing a grey T-shirt with a green stripe – this is the last confirmed sighting of him.

8.15am – The teenager makes a final phone call to his friend Lucy Mae Law, telling her he has missed his bus.

He says he is ‘in the middle of mountains’ with ‘nothing around’, and that he needs water. Then the phone cuts out, with his battery dying.

According to the last location on his mobile phone, he is at Rural de Teno Park, a mountainous area of a national park, around 10 hours’ walk from his apartment complex.

9.04am – Police in Tenerife are alerted, and Jay’s friend Lucy contacts the British Embassy.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.’

2pm – His friends begin circulating a description of Jay, including the clothes he was wearing.
