Then there is the horrific cluster of killings in the late 1980s along Colonial Parkway.
Did they collect DNA back then?

In the first Parkway killing, Rebecca A. Dowski and Cathleen M. Thomas were found strangled with their throats cut in October 1986. Three other similar incidents followed, leading investigators to believe they were all the work of a serial killer.
They included:

* The September 1987 killings of David Knobling and Robin Edwards. Both were found shot in the head at Ragged Island Wildlife Refuge in Isle of Wight County.

* The April 1988 disappearance of Cassandra Hailey and Keith Call. Their car was found at a parkway stop west of Yorktown. They are still considered missing persons.

* The deaths of Daniel Lauer and Annamaria Phelps. They were found dead in September 1989, a few weeks after their car was discovered at a New Kent County rest stop. Their decomposed remains offered few clues to their deaths, except that Phelps apparently died from knife wounds.


Could it be that JLM senior was responsible for the some of the earlier killings during the 1980s to 1990s, and the son followed in his father's footsteps?

OH - and WHERE IS DARRELL RICE thought to be the original I-29 stalker? I read he is not in Durango, CO as expected, has not registered as a sex offender there. If anyone is interested in the Colonial Parkway Murders, please feel free to contact me. Here are a few quick thoughts.

Obviously, the Colonial Parkway Murders are too far back to have involved JLM Junior. The JLM Junior/Senior theory is a bit wild, but I suppose you never know.

Fall dates again: my sister Cathy and her girlfriend Rebecca 'Becky' Dowski's murder kicked off the Colonial Parkway Murders on or about October 10, 1986.

3 of the 4 Colonial Parkway double homicides also happened in September or October.

DNA: remember there was no DNA testing when the Colonial Parkway murders happened in 1986-1989. FBI Norfolk/Newport News, who are responsible for the Thomas/Dowski killing and the Call/Hailey disappearance are re-testing evidence for DNA at FBI labs in Quantico. Cold cases like our are lower priorities, although I do like to say that we have been standing in this line for almost 28 years.

The Phelps/Lauer and Knobling/Edwards murders are both Virginia State Police cases, handled by separate VSP offices. Not sure that they are retesting evidence; I really doubt it.

Forensics: none of the four double homicides in the Colonial Parkway Murders are linked by forensics. It is possible that they are not related.

1996 Williams/Winans connection: the FBI said publicly in 1996 that they were looking at possible connections between the killing of Julie Williams and Laura 'Lollie' Winans and that of Cathy Thomas and Rebecca Dowski in 1986.

I see possible overlap in the following areas: National Parks in Virginia, isolated rural locations, athletic lesbian couples, holiday weekends (Columbus Day 1986, Memorial Day 1996), both crimes investigated by National Park Service Investigative Rangers (I believe that 4 NPS Rangers overlap-- they were assigned to Colonial Parkway in 1986 and then assigned to Shenandoah National Park in 1996) and FBI, both female couples bound with throats cut.

Route 29 Stalker case: For me, the 1996 Alicia Showalter Reynolds killing has some similarities to the recent missing women.

Now back to JLM.

Cassandra Morton: This one deserves another look. If she was on the street, and may have been using drugs or alcohol, she might be the incapacitated woman that this killer looks for.

JLM type: Note that in the Coy Barefoot JLM timeline story, he seems to be an equal opportunity offender. If he is the right guy, he might not just go for pretty blondes, but women who are out of it and highly vulnerable. I think one of his friends even said that he tended to go for women who were drunk, high or otherwise out of it.

Newport News: Those 3 women that went missing during his time there deserve a much closer look. Way too close for comfort.

Overlap: I have begun to think about JLM's history as being like a Venn diagram. Remember those circles from math class or (shudder at the thought) statistics? If you start overlapping the circles, there are just so many that overlap that include JLM. Those with a history of accusations of sexual violence, socially awkward, impulse control, assault charges, lack of boundaries, creeper/stalker behavior, seen on video with Hannah, resemblance to the sketch, went to school near Anchorage Farm, attended Liberty University, cab drivers, proximity to where Morgan's shirt was found, the fall failed football career thing, the overlapping dates with so many of the other recent cases. I am sure that I have forgotten a few, but the hits just keep on coming.

Finally, DNA: In the Hannah Graham disappearance, I think DNA may provide the link we are looking for in some of the recent cases.

The mystery of Morgan's final resting place isn't just about who put her there; it's about how anyone could have reached such a remote location in the first place.

A remote farm There is exactly one vehicle entrance to Anchorage Farm: a driveway off 29 South, known there as Monacan Trail. While the farm's original house, a two-story brick home with a white clapboard addition, is visible from the road, Bass lives in a sprawling Colonial-style mansion approximately one mile in, where the driveway ends, and Bass says it would be technically possible to drive to the end of his mile-long driveway and then continue another half-mile over rough terrain&#8211; pastures, hayfields, and thickets&#8211; on foot. But he doubts anyone could make the trek without drawing his attention. Any vehicle entering from 29 South also has to pass the smaller house&#8211; rented to UVA graduate students until June&#8211; but now home to Bass' adult daughter
And the forest is not the only access. A nearby neighborhood actually offers a nearly straight shot toward Anchorage Farm.

Wrapping around the western and northern borders of Anchorage, the neighborhood comprises lots no smaller than 21 acres, and one of them appears to provide an open, level field over which a car could travel to within 100 feet of where Morgan's remains were discovered&#8211; all while remaining out of the sightline of the nearby mansions. And according to another Blandemar resident, police spent a significant period of time analyzing and photographing the area around the cul-de-sac that leads to the field.

Even if someone could have driven so close, he or she would still have had to traverse those last 100 feet on foot in order to cross a creek and, according to the resident, multiple barbed wire barriers.

"It would be very difficult," says the resident, who requested anonymity.

Despite such ardor, Morgan Harrington ended up in the corner of a cowfield which, the owner says, is accessible only by off-road vehicle. And that, says a criminal profiler, is a clue of its own into the assailant's identity.

"They'd probably need to know that area," says former FBI profiler Mark Safarik, noting that in order to dispose of a body, "killers will travel a distance to go someplace that's familiar to them."

"I am feeling a tendency to downplay Morgan&#8217;s abduction, to protect the idyllic reputation of the city," Gil Harrington wrote on findmorgan.com on January 23, just three days before Morgan's remains were discovered. "A bad event happened in Charlottesville," she wrote, urging residents to stand up and make Charlottesville "known as the place where this act was not tolerated, not dismissed, be relentless, be clever, be resourceful, and find Morgan. Protect people rather than reputations, they are infinitely more precious."

Gil says Dan Harrington expressed his concerns about safety to UVA, and soon after Morgan's discovery, University Vice President Patricia Lampkin sent an email to all students offering safety tips including traveling in groups, particularly at night, and even making sure not to get into any unmarked taxis.

Do we know what the Fairfax girl and Liberty University girl looked like? I'm wondering if he targeted girls that looked like the Liberty University girl because he blamed her in his twisted mind for ruining his football career. I do think that the season Fall may strike a chord with him.

I know that my husband, a NUT for football season, gets ridiculously excited in August keeping up with how LSU football practices etc are going in anticipation for the first football game of the season which usually falls some time within the end of the first week of September to the beginning of the second week of September. If my husband is SO aware of the season, JM certainly was. The Fairfax girl, Morgan, and Hannah were all violated in the early part of football season.

Maybe he finds a girl that resembles the Liberty University girl to "punish" around this time because the feelings of "that could have been me - a football star" get stirred up within him.

Maybe that's far fetched, but I'm still curious if the 2 rape victims have light hair and skin like Morgan and Hannah. Morgan and Hannah are both strawberry blondish with fair skin

If indeed the game was supposed to be held THIS YEAR (the last dates I saw on the Silverback website were 2012) on September 13 and was cancelled, JLM may have had some 'football angst' that sent him out to the bars to drink and hunt for a victim. September 13, 2014 was the night Hannah Graham disappeared.

I'm having trouble imagining JM is intelligent enough to do all this advanced planning and plotting of what to do with a body/bodies. I haven't gotten the impression from what I've read that he has an attention to detail. That being said, I tend to think if he did have a body to dispose of, he would do it as easily as possible - probably not thinking about it as much as we have on WS. Maybe he might sit around and decide to commit w crime to commemorate a specific event or date, but he doesn't strike me as that type of person. Just my opinion...

I don't like any of the suspects, and I have no preference as to who might have done any of these horrendous things. It would make it a lot safer for all if all could be attributed to the same person, and that person get put away from the population at large. That someone is out there willing to do things like this, is frightening and dangerous. My main focus now in this case, is that Hannah be found, stilll hopefully alive, though I don't think so. Still possible. And that when she is found, LE can finger who did it and get a conviction , get the perp put away. That' it's the same perp doing a number of these crimes and he's caught would be even better.

I thought LE has the DNA of MH's perp and of another victim (who got away alive) and that the samples match but they can't identify who it is since it isn't in their records. With JM now having to contribute his DNA, that can be checked against those of past crimes. If there is a convicted sex offender out there, his DNA would already be on file and already checked in regard to those older cases.

IMO - It's more likely that JLM would be 'hanging out' near a Metallica concert and/or driving a cab nearby either looking for fares or victims and more likely MH would get into a cab than a car driven by your average sex offender. (Unless the sex offender was a BMOC frat guy known to MH))

It's going to take a while. THe DNA that needs to be used for a definitive match and as evidence has to be taken directly from JM, is what I understand, and that has just been done. Doubt there will be a super rush put on the matches to old cases, as the big deal now is to link him with Hannah, in hopes of finding her. Morgan's parent's have even said so. I don't remember the time line for results of getting result back, but it was a matter of weeks, not days. The forensic evidence from the car was given special priority and just got back.

JM is in custody now and is not going anywhere for a while. We'll find out if his DNA matches any older unsolved cases in due time.

If he knows where her body is no way does he give it up b/c then best he could hope for is deal to not get the DP so life without parole. BUT if he knows he is already gonna catch a murder charge (where they have DNA) and another rape charge then he actually has something to gain by making a deal where he gives up where hannahs body is.

My guess is that ANY DNA they could find is going to get a preliminary run against that for the MH crime and if there was even a hint of a match, LE would be all over this. I just don't get any vibe of excitement about the connection from LE I certainly hope it would be a go since that would get one big problem out of the population. Otherwise, the only thing would be the charge for Hannah's disappearance and unless there is a lot of goods not reported, it may well be an uphill climb to get anything, and the serial rapist for those earlier crimes is still at large.

The increased anxiety and anger around 'anniversary dates' can be unconscious or lie just beneath the consciousness of a person who has mental health problems. For JLM, football season, the return of young people to college, especially pretty young girls, can 'trigger' his unresolved rage and hatred and sense of blame. If someone asked him about it, he would probably deny it.

Do you think JLM has used drugs that can cause ongoing psychological problems? Purple Drank aka Sizzurp and Blunts can cause paranoia, aggression, anger, etc.
