I wonder how much of a backlog there is in Virginia when it comes to rape kits. I know in some states...it's years.

This is absolutely true - it has been a big news story in Memphis, Tennessee lately. Years of backlogged, untested rape kits - 12,000 total. We have the highest number of untested kits in the country and I read that it will take 4 million dollars to process them all. Shocking.

Thanks! Just read the circumstances of her disappearance. She was last seen at Food Lion and her car was found in the parking lot the next day. Wasn't the victim from Fairfax attacked while walking home from a grocery store? Could be some sort of MO

I'm not an expert on either possible perp or the details, but I *think* it's considered likely that Samantha Clarke was a victim of Randy Allen Taylor. He is jailed for murdering another teenage girl (Alexis Murphy) and he had been in contact with Samantha Clarke just before she disappeared. I know that's not 100% proof, and RAT has never confessed, but it seems unlikely that she was in in contact with two different serial killers in the space of 24 hours. Astronomically unlucky if so.

Edit: Although, and someone forgive me if this has already been pointed out...didn't RAT's original alibi about Alexis Murphy claim that there had been a mystery guy with dreadlocks involved? Someone on one of these threads said it referred to a different dreadlocked guy but I can't remember much more than that.

Thanks, I edited my original post and linked directly to bessie's post about why they are most likely not the same person. I should have known I could hardly be the first person to think of it, especially when I'm barely caught up on anything about this perp. :)
 
So Samantha Clark was "in contact" with a middle-aged man? That seems strange to me, but okay.

Don't quote me on this, but if I remember correctly Samantha was seeing a man or wanted to see a man RAT knew and I believe RAT said that he was using her etc and RAT called to tell her that. Am I telling this story correctly? Anyone remember?

Yeah seems like it would be quite the coincidence if she were a JLM victim.

JLM scares me more than a lot of perps like this. Here is the thing: I definitely steer clear of a sketchy dude with a neck tattoo, but I certainly would have gotten into JLM's cab at 2 am while drunk.
