That picture of Andrew that you made looks great, sc2714. Thank you for doing that.

Romans 8, 38th, 39th verses: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, not anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Hundreds gather in Louisville for vigil honoring missing Carmel teen
Police arrest Louisville man, search Indiana landfill

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Several hundred friends and acquaintances of a missing college student from Carmel gathered for a vigil Tuesday night at Sullivan University to remember him and show support for his family.

Holding up candles, they shared stories about Andrew Compton, 18, and sang "Amazing Grace" over the roar of a nearby expressway.

Compton, 18, was last seen Oct. 28, and a Louisville man is suspected of killing him while they had sex. Gregory M. O'Bryan, 40, Louisville, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Nice turnout for Andrew.

About four dozen recruits from LMPD's South Louisville Training Center boarded a bus early Wednesday to head to a landfill in Medora, Indiana. They'll join dozens of others as they continue searching a landfill for the body of 18-year-old Andrew Compton, who disappeared on Oct. 28.

I hate to say it but I KNEW from the start something bad happened to Andrew. It seemed to be a classic case of perp=predator. I truly wish Andrew had listened to the advice of his parents re: meeting with ppl from the internet. This didn't have to happen & that's why it's even harder to deal with the reality he's now gone. :(

eta..I'm in no way placing blame on the 'victim'..We all do things we know we shouldn't but in a case like this our actions can't ever be taken back. Andrew can never learn from this mistake. So SAD!

your right. This did not have to happen. All we can hope is that someone somewhere learned that it is best not to hook up or meet up with people they meet in online chat rooms. We have to think positively about what someone else will learn from this. Andrew may not learn from this mistake but someone will.

I hate to say I KNEW it also. More often than not the last person to be seen with a missing person is the guilty party to a crime. But, I don't think the internet is a bad way to meet people. My brother met his wife on the internet and they have been happily married 15 years. This is just a case of simply meeting the wrong person. Anybody can appear normal at first, online or in person, and you don't find out otherwise until it's too late. The guy is obviously mentally ill if he is having sex with a dead person.

O'Bryan, 40, was arraigned in jail court at 9 a.m. Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty and was granted a public defender.

O'Bryan told the judge that he only made about $700 a month from social security checks, and was worried he'd lose his apartment. His next court date was set for Nov. 22.

His bond was set at $1 million

O’Bryan showed little emotion as the judge asked if he understood the charges against him — nodding and saying “yeah.” O’Bryan said that he preferred the public defender’s office handle his case because “the public knows,” referring to the case’s media coverage and because he’s already “talked to detectives.”

He told the judge that he receives $704 a month for Social Security disability and that his mother is the payee on the checks.

why would his mother be the payee on the checks???

He's only concerned about losing his apartment? Disgusting....

Officials at the landfill say they can keep track of when trash comes in and where it came from, which would allow them to narrow their search to trash that arrived from Louisville on a particular date.

Police say they found evidence Tuesday that tells them they are searching in the right location.

While I am hopefully they will find Andrew so he can be properly laid to rest, hearing this breaks my heart.

His SSI income is received in his mother's name, payee. She is probably the payee because he is mentally impaired. Oh boy, just a guess but, I bet his defense will claim not guilty based on limited mental capacity. Not sure if anyone read some of the comments below this article or if there is any truth to them. One person wrote,

"I dated Greg for over two years. He received SSI for being mentally ill. When I reported him to the police for an incident last year the police refused to take my claims seriously (they thought I was a simply a loon who was over reacting) and no action was taken."

Likely because a doctor has determined that he is incapable of handling his own financial affairs in a responsible manner. IF a person is disabled, slow, or just too messed up to take care of themselves, their doctor can sign a form allowing for someone else to be the payee.
About 6+ years ago....you could just request that SSA assign you a payee of your choice...but that was often abused and just a big headache...so SSA implemented a new policy that a doctor MUST sign a statement not only saying that the disabled person can't handle their own money but also that their choice of payee CAN handle money for them.

gay men are no more likely to be sociopathic killers than straight men but what I find inexcusable is how LE treats them. one might think they'd go after them more aggressively but it looks like complaints about them are ignored.

I don't know the facts behind what that guy said he reported, but he said something to the cops, the neighbors saw boys coming and going (unclear if any of them reported what they saw) and now this. from all appearances the local cops did no investigation after they initiallly knocked on O'Bryan's door and he told them his first story. it was the Carmel, IN police who took the extra step to subpoena Andrew's cell phone records which showed no activity after he was picked up at the dorm.

reminds me of Jeffrey Dahmer, when cops encountered him with an injured minor, and Dahmer simply told the cops that they were lovers and had a quarrel and the cops did not investigate. the boy's family sued and got a settlement.

not sure what recourse the Compton family has against Louisville, but this guy should have been on the radar of local LE.

He is worried about paying the rent, keeping his apartment. It is doubtful he will ever see that apartment again.
Hoping that he will not.

$704.00 SSI is too high.
He must have a combination of SSI/SSD., not that it matters.
Or KY has a state fund that makes up the difference from the SSI amount.
I do know that, for example, OR and CA have large difference in the amount of SSI
help.
