The Liberty Counsel has connected homosexuality to higher rates of promiscuity and incest, Potok said, despite scientific evidence to the contrary. The firm opposes laws banning hate crimes and supports discredited conversion therapies that purport to turn homosexuals into heterosexuals. Staver once declared that the Boy Scouts would become a "playground for pedophiles" once it allowed gay troop leaders.

Staver, his hair bright white and his ties usually red, contends his quotes were taken out of context and he has legal arguments for the rest: hate crime laws infringe on free speech, he believes, and gay conversion therapies should be available to those who want them because he believes in "personal autonomy."

"It is irresponsible and reckless to call someone a hate group because you disagree with them," he said.

He added that he can't be considered a hater because he loves all of God's creation.

Williams also came to his defense: the Bible warned that Christians would be persecuted for standing strong for their faith, he noted.

"Jesus told us we would be hated for his name," he said. "For standing for what we stand for, people will hate us. It happened to the disciples, but it's also happening today."

MOO hate group is that hate group does.

What would Jesus do? Would he oppose hate crime laws?

Also, liar liar pants on fire. Yeah sure he got the photo from Peruvian authorities....

Anyway, not a very believable story: Who would even buy that 100.000 Peruvian people would care enough to gather in a soccer stadium over a clerk in another county who wasn't even famous before she got jailed?

Right, it was a rhetorical question. The crowd that attends Family Research council conferences, that's who.

Did she have any idea what was coming when she decided to do this? When she decided to sign up with these hateful people?

As long as it gets her frumper in the papers.....as I have said before, this lovely person is all about the attention and not at all about the principle.

and cut some of that hair

I don't know. I thought there was a difference between being baptized and being SAVED.

iirc, you can be baptized and be pure of heart: and/or also baptized while being saved, which means you may have been sinful in the past but now you accept Jesus as your personal Savior via his death on the cross.

"Marriage licenses are being issued in Rowan County, which [Kentucky Gov. "Marriage licenses are being issued in Rowan County, which [Kentucky Gov. Steven Beshear] and Kentucky attorney general have approved as valid, which are recognized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and which are deemed acceptable by the couples who received them," her lawyers said in court filings Tuesday.

"It has never really been about a marriage license — Rowan County has issued the licenses — it is about [the plaintiffs] forcing their will on a Christian woman through contempt of court charges, jail, and monetary sanctions," attorney Mat Staver said.

No. This has always been about marriage licenses and her forcing her "Christian values" on everyone by denying them their civil rights.

"Kim Davis's Lawyers Have Said Things That Are Literally Unbelievable"

So it was surprising when Liberty Counsel lawyer Harry Mihet announced to a group of reporters more than a week later, on Sept. 14, that Judge Bunning said the licenses without Davis’s signature were indeed valid. Where did Bunning make that statement? BuzzFeed News asked. In the Sept. 8 order Bunning used to release Davis from jail, Mihet said.
Liberty Counsel’s top lawyer and founder, Mat Staver, said the same thing in a Sept. 22 press release: “Judge Bunning also said licenses issued while she was in jail without her name were valid.”
The claim was repeated as fact. Several dozen media outlets, from coast to coast and north to south, ran an Associated Press article the same day that stated: “Bunning ruled those licenses were valid.” CBS News folded that statement into an article on Sept. 25 that also said Bunning ruled the licenses were valid.
But Bunning did no such thing.

Much more at link.

KD has made a fool out of the Judge that held her in contempt. IMO

He held her in contempt for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Why was she not held in jail until she agreed to comply? To date, has anything changed?

This is from the link above. He was satisfied she was complying and whether or not the licenses are valid is a separate issue. I'd been wondering the same thing. It's a problem when all we get is news from her lawyers about what the judge said or did and they're lying about everything. But I guess it's not on the judge to address the media.

Rather, Bunning’s Sept. 8 order stated he was “satisfied” the clerk’s office was issuing marriage licenses in accordance with the U.S. Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling — even though Davis’s name wasn’t on the licenses. Bunning continued in a footnote, “Plaintiffs have not alleged that the alterations affect the validity of the licenses. Nor do the alterations impact the Court’s finding that the deputy clerks have complied with the Court’s Order.”

There were two separate issues for Bunning — compliance with his order to issue marriage licenses and the question of whether those licenses were valid under state law — and he made that distinction clear. Nothing in his Sept. 8 order said he was conflating those issues or had reached a conclusion that compliance amounted to license validity.

BuzzFeed News asked Liberty Counsel what evidence suggested Bunning declared the licenses valid. Staver cited the footnote; he also said Gov. Steve Beshear and Attorney General Jack Conway said they believed the licenses were valid despite alterations. “The point is they were altered by Brian [Mason], the Deputy Clerk, and the judge noted that fact and said his order was complied with. He was satisfied,” Staver said.

Pressed further, Liberty Counsel’s Charla Bansley said of the judge, “Would he be ‘satisfied’ if they were not valid?”

Judge Bunning has not answered that question — and he’s the only person who can.

This is kind of off topic but I've been pondering the accusations posted awhile back that this is an anti-Christian thread.

Any non Christian who pays a bit of attention to the world at large would have to be familiar with the Ten Commandments, due to the legal controversies over Christians intent on posting them in governmental structures and being met with separation of church and state arguments.

So the most basic rules that Christians are supposed to follow are out there.

With regard to this case, Davis's Christian lawyers have clearly violated the 9th commandment about bearing false witness.

So how can anyone be accused of being anti-Christian by saying, hey, you've told us all your rules and we can clearly see you're not following them?

I don't get it.

Carry on.

Here's the deal. Keeping her in jail was making a "hero" out of her. She was accumulating a following in jail. Best to let her out, and let this play out quietly. Anyone who wants marriage licenses can go elsewhere to apply for them, and she can slowly dissolve into obscurity. Hopefully.

The problem is, the people (same sex couples) who want marriage licenses shouldn't have to drive to another county to get a marriage license. This is their home, they pay taxes in this county and it's perfectly legal for them to marry there. They're being treated as second class citizens. Can you imagine walking up to a counter and basically being told, "we don't serve your kind here". (I know these aren't the exact words used, but it's the same sentiment). It's discrimination and IMO no one should have to suffer this in silence.
