Burning pickup truck found under La Porte highway overpass possibly stolen

The La Porte Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an apparent arson of a vehicle that was found on a road under the state highways 146/225 overpass Sunday (June 10).
La Porte police responded to a vehicle fire shortly after 10 p.m. and found what appeared to be a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire. However, the truck melted almost entirely, La Porte police spokesman Sgt. John Krueger said.
The officer at the scene could not make out the license plate number but identified the vehicle as a possibly white 2004 to 2008 GMC or Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck.
The vehicle was stripped of all of its contents, which could indicate that the truck was stolen before it was put on fire, Krueger said.
On Monday, a worker from a nearby industrial complex reported that his vehicle was stolen. He said he had just learned of the fire in the morning.
Krueger said it is unclear why the man hadn’t reported his vehicle stolen earlier.

Doesn't seem like it could be, if this was June 10?

No, not the truck. La Porte is not in San Jacinto County.

However, this speaks to the frequency at which something like this occurs around here.

Thank You!
:waitasec: I don't see a date... grrr...
edit: FOUND IT! June 6 2012

BL would have returned onshore?
6/5/2012? hmm.... is it possible that BL stole the pressure washer and burned the place?
Without help?

5/9 - 5/22 - Onshore
5/23 - 6/5 - Offshore
6/6 - 6/19 - Onshore
6/20 - 7/4 - Offshore

I'm sorry if this has been discussed and I missed it. If so, please ignore.

Is it common for RSOs to be able to obtain a job like BSL's? I know offshore work hiring isn't exactly picky, to put it lightly, and that there are likely many offshoresmen with criminal backgrounds. But a Tier 3 RSO? As soon as I got that back on a background check that would be the end of that hiring process.

Someone posted his linkedin profile earlier.

It listed that he worked for State of La, during his incarceration (???)

:banghead:

Ok, I've sleuthed all day for a report, posted prior to last night/today's announcement, on one of the Houston, Montgomery, or San Jacinto area MSM sites about a burned out truck being found. I have come up with nothing, and I consider myself to be a pretty savvy Googler.

Is it possible that we took the idea that a tip that came in on June 14th is what tipped them off to BSL too literally? Maybe the tip about the burned truck that came in June 14th from (assumably) a citizen and the tip from the car dealer about the RSO trying to buy a new truck and saying his had been stolen in Texas aren't what actually got them turned on to BSL. Maybe they were well onto him before, that the San Jacinto Sherriff's Office alerted them to the fact that a truck in BSL's name had turned up burned in their county, and they just needed to build their case for an arrest. I don't doubt it's true that those tips came in. It's just possible that they already were working that angle but they don't want us to know about it, so they're using the tips as an "out."

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt in this situation. We've done nothing but question them for weeks, and it really does seem that the whole time we thought they were incompetent, they were keeping their cards well covered and collecting exactly what it needed to convince a DA and a judge that he is so guilty that bond is not even an option.

I think either they have evidence of Mickey's body at WB or in the burned truck.
You cannot rehabilitate a sex offender. They all need to be executed. IMO.

OH dang!!!!!!!!!! Sounds to me that the rumor of him burning down a house when he was younger could be true. He clearly graduated from rape to killing to hush his victim. Also how bold to enter the house. Even if he did know this girl, it shows his desires were strong. Now this was in 1999.

IIRC, his parents home burned down and rumors were that he was responsible but was never charged.

Does anyone know if he worked a set schedule or was he on call?

I posted this on page 10, worth thinking about IMO

:fence:

I saw this comment elsewhere, interesting.......

"Listened to PC again, truck reported stolen on 5/21.

5/19 - Mickey disappears
5/21 - BSL reports truck stolen in Montgomery County, TX
5/25 - Videos released naming VOI
5/26 - Bike found @ WB
6/14 - Tip received (if from Car Salesman is this when new truck is bought?)
7/5 - Arrest of BSL

If shift change for 14/14 is on Wed. (not sure, but think so), BSL's schedule would have looked like this:

5/9 - 5/22 - Onshore
5/23 - 6/5 - Offshore
6/6 - 6/19 - Onshore
6/20 - 7/4 - Offshore

Explains why maybe he waited so long to buy a new truck...needed to collect insurance and was offshore during much of the time. Again, 6/14 is a guess on buying the truck if the tipster was the car dealership. His on and off shore dates do line up with means."

Are you sure? Did he work two weeks on two off or two on one off? I know there's lots of different schedules.

No. I am not sure! lol Just thinking online.. outloud :)

If they have evidence of her in the burned truck, LE in Lafayette definitely knew about the burned truck prior to June 14th. Otherwise, that would have been in the Houston area MSM, and it wasn't. It wouldn't have been kept quiet.

I'm not sure her body was in that vehicle when it was burned though. It may be around it and they haven't found it yet. However, given that he drove the truck 4-4.5 hours and burned it in hopes of disguising the fact that it's associated with this case, I doubt it is.

Crossing my fingers that if we have to find a body, which I know is what we're looking for at this point, it's found soon.

That is him. Happy to see I am by no means connected with him

Thank-you, Fleurdenola.

I wonder if he gave his real name when he reported it stolen? Why would he buy the same truck in silver? He didn't seem too bright if you ask me. I think he became real nervous after his truck was caught on video which caused an obvious trail of events leading up to his arrest. He was going to be caught it was just a matter of time.

It is my understanding that the new truck is white as well. ????

Also in this report it was stated that BL said he would not answer questions without an attorney right from the get go but after some prodding, he decided to wave his rights and tell his side of the story. We could only hope he'd break down and do that in Mickey's case but doubetdly since it didn't work out so well last time.

It's impossible for me to see him as intelligent. He left the washcloth at the scene of the crime! And he volunteered the victims name before being told why he was there. He definitely didn't read the crime 101 book.

I have seen online evidence that he was specifically brought to the attention of authorities immediately after the white truck videos were released.
Brandon was engaged to a woman who has two young children. Her family was very upset that she was going to marry an RSO. So they had been looking for ways to prevent that marriage BEFORE they even knew about the white truck connection. So they made sure that LE knew about him when that video was released.

So IMO, they knew about him quite awhile ago. But they needed to get their ducks all in a nice row before pulling the trigger. And I agree, LE has been doing a good job it seems. Maybe we should stop some of the blind criticism at this time.
