golden_darkness: your comments here have been priceless; thank you for helping your friend. Do you know if he drank alcohol / beer (in general)? Meaning, do you think it's possible he - for example - had already had a couple beers so didn't want to drive, so maybe he grabbed a $20 and his bike and ran to get more beer at a convenience store? This is all totally hypothetical, but I'm just asking if this is possible. Or do you think he maybe took off on his bike to go swimming to clear his mind, maybe? Or to go sit off somewhere quiet to clear his head, like on top of the levee where the trail starts (pretty view there)? What do *you*, as someone his age and a friend of his, think would be a probable explanation for him to (for example) grab his bike and head out at 1:00am for (possibly) just a little bit? What would your best guess be? You're close in age, similar lifestyles (college, young, etc.), you know your friends' general behaviors. Just curious what your best guess would be, and/or if anything I suggested above might be possible, with you knowing Michael. Thanks again!

He didn't drink very often when we dated. Every now and then, but not like to get drunk several nights a week. Usually he drank malibu (if he drank, IF), not really beer. He drank more energy drinks than anything honestly. And he is like 70% Arizona iced tea (I've been saying this a lot lately, but it's true!). It was around 1:30 when his roommate heard him leave, so assuming he had drank and went to grab alcohol he would be cutting it close since Baton Rouge stops selling alcohol at 2 and you can't get it too close too campus. Also he left without his drivers license (I have heard that the only forms of ID he has are his tigercard and dogtags), and EVERYONE checks for valid ID. Tigercard doesn't include birthday, and dogtags don't have your photo, so neither would work. He never did anything late at night to clear his mind except maybe play video games. He would just get on alone and play story mode in something if he needed to relax. For Michael, there is no good explanation as to why he would leave at 1am. He has PT and has to be up at 4am every morning. He is typically in bed by 1. 12/12:30 is about the time he goes to bed. Just leaving to take a walk or run to the store just doesn't sound like him.

My theory: Can't sleep. Quick trip to mail a letter or drop off a library book? Hit by a car. Accident covered up by someone, Michael & bike hidden.

He wouldn't have just left that late at night. He didn't like to read and didn't really use mail (unless for ROTC or class), but neither the library or the post office on campus (I think) have any place to drop off that late. Maybe the hit by a car thing assuming he did something out the usual and did leave for whatever reason? Seems reasonable, just not within Michael's behavior. He sticks to his routine. That's one of the reasons that he broke up with me I think. He told me he didn't deserve me and that I deserve better (at the time I thought it was just a line but maybe I was wrong), and I think one of his reasons for thinking that is that he is very set in his ways and is unchanging in them.

Maybe was having tummy trouble in bathroom and went out for air? From what we have learned, he doesn't sound like a guy who would just take off

Thanks so much for your reply, golden_darkness! So, I was going down the "energy drink" path after I posted yesterday. You mentioned (1) he'd been studying at his parents' and/or doing schoolwork there on Sunday, and (2) that apparently stuff (notes, snacks, etc.) was left out in his room when he left around 1:00 (or 1:30, as I see you mention here). Do you think he could've possibly grabbed some cash (like a $10 or $20) and his Tigercard around 1:00am and headed out really quick on his bike to go to a convenience store to grab an energy drink or Arizona Iced Tea because he ran out and needed it to keep studying? To be studying or doing schoolwork at his parents', and then (as you mentioned) to have stuff left out in his room, seems to me like he was just up studying late and needed a quick pick-me-up (energy drink or Tea), since he may have had snacks but no drink. Does that sound plausible/possible? Doesn't sound like there'd be a single other reason for him to have headed out so quickly and without any possessions, right?

In the Baton Rouge area, I would not be surprised if he wasn't mugged for his bicycle.

Because of ROTC and the fact that he was sometimes contacted late hours of the night for various reasons (I specifically remember one time there was a shooting at southern and he got a call late at night about it by his commander), he would have had his phone. He had an energy drink out on his desk I think. I doubt he would have taken his bike to a convenience store because I'm pretty sure you can get Arizona iced tea at Outtakes, which is on campus not far from his apartment (so close I probably wouldn't consider it worth biking to). But if he needed something and he was in the middle of studying he would typically give up on studying over getting a drink.

Tiffany is saying that he was less organized now than when he and I dated lately, in a way that makes her think that something was amiss. She says it seemed like something was up that he didn't want to talk about. Apparently Caleb (one of his roommates) saw notecards all over his room like he had gotten frustrated. There are also green strings on the floor? I don't think the strings are significant but Tiffany is somehow convinced they are. I don't know what they look like so all I'm picturing is green thread. Apparently they're like thicker thread friendship bracelets.

Wow! Very interesting, insightful, and helpful, golden_darkness! Thank you! So, is Outtakes a 24-hour place? Where is it, exactly? I don't understand what could make him step out of his apartment with just (apparently) his keycard. I know I've asked this already, but as someone his age, what could've made him step out without any of his possessions on him? Like, anything specific come to mind at all? So confusing. Thanks again.

Note cards and green threads all over sounds like frustration to me. Maybe it was just a 'clear my head' moment.

So I just found out Outtakes closes at 11pm Sunday nights. Most days it doesn't close until 3am. So that can actually be scratched off. I can only think of Michael leaving if he absolutely had to. He REALLY isn't the type of person to just up and leave, especially not without his phone because of ROTC/Marines stuff.

This case is sadly similar to a UCLA student that went missing in 1999 in the early morning hours from his dorm room - Michael Negrete. He was never found. I am hoping this is not the case with Michael from LSU.

I am assuming LE is checking his phone records for any incoming messages shortly prior to his disappearance to shed some light on this case. Was he planning to meet someone.

Is Michael considered AWOL by the Marines.

The green strings are probably 550 parachute cord (550 paracord). Very common for someone in the marines to have this type of cord, it is used for many different things...do a google search usmc 550 cord.

Were they tied in any way? specific knots etc?

I have no idea if he is considered AWOL. But yes, his phone has been checked and to my knowledge has no clues.

Searched them and sent a picture to the people who have seen the room.
