I'm sorry.....he looks so arrogant, and since he's going pre-med, I figured he must be rich. Aren't he and his fiance planning a fairly lavish wedding? Just led me to believe he had some money in the family.

Anyway,I apologize for making that statement .

That does change things a bit re the Atlantic City killings--the authorities ought to look into it.

LE might look at this guy for any number of attacks and yes, even murders, where 'sex' type workers were involved. Just because this time he was caught from using his black-berry, computer, Craig's List, etc., doesn't mean he hasn't done this before 'hooking-up' with a different mo with his POSSIBLE victim. Serial killers are also known, at times, for changing the method of murder as well. Stabbing, strangling, shooting, blunt force trauma, it all still ends with murder.:(

The one common denominator the three crimes have, that they're looking at him possibly being responsible for so far, he went gambling two nights later. HUGE clue, IMHO.

There are women who've gone missing in Vegas, and yes Atlantic City murders, there's even some in Louisiana, (but that ones pretty far-fetched to connect, imho). But wherever there's gambling there's opportunity to rob, kidnap, murder women where they are easier pray.

At the very least, this case might open LE's eyes as to OTHER possible perps for other crimes. Meaning they should now look at others that they may have suspected but discarded because they didn't fit the profile, etc. As with the Cantu case, I believe they need to forgetaboutit when it comes to 'profiling' and follow the evidence and whoever is at the end, follow them until they slip up.

JMHO

PS.......FWIW, I did read in an article yesterday that he 'grew-up' in a neighborhood of million dollar hou$e$ (sorry, no link) and his apartment he presently resided in has been described as 'upscale.' The fact that he was also planning a 'lavish wedding,' at least collectively all indicates a 'life of privilege,' IMHO...........fran

PPS.......there's another case we followed here on Websleuths a few years ago, where a guy was caught after a failed attempt to abduct a teenage girl by a high school. AFTER he was connected and arrested for that crime, which btw was several states over from where he lived (he was a traveling saleman), he was later connected to a couple of rapes of women, older than the teenager and not abducted on the street but attacked in their homes. Just a fwiw that different 'types' of victims, different mo's ie kidnap off the street or home burglary, but result the same, attacking a 'female.' Almost all of the victims were NOT living in close proximity from the perps home as well, different counties and different states....fran

He grew up in Sherrill, NY.

From City Data:

Estimated median house or condo value in 2007: $125,499 (it was $89,800 in 2000)
Sherrill: $125,499
New York: $311,000

Mean prices in 2007: All housing units: $156,898; Detached houses: $161,268; Townhouses or other attached units: $119,665; In 2-unit structures: $117,566; In 3-to-4-unit structures: $85,435; In 5-or-more-unit structures: $161,682

Not rich.
Rich kids don't go to SUNY. Money buys its way into better schools.
Rich mothers don't work in casino gift shops.
Father is a dentist... but parents were divorced, no? (I may be wrong about this but I thought I heard mention of a stepfather.) As many a divorced woman can attest, just because dad is making decent money doesn't mean the child is seeing that money.

Med school can be paid for with student loans. Now the girlfriend, I'm gathering she is from Jersey. She may be the one with the money... but it's not him. I could see her family paying for "lavish wedding" to a future doctor. (Not to mention lavish is a subjective word and can be used to sensationalize this story. My wedding involved dinner at Red Lobster. Lavish? Depends on who you ask.)

I agree that they need to check into other cases with this guy. I wouldn't rule out Louisiana either. There are tons of casinos in and around the gulf region and a guy like this could have been there during Mardi Gras or other times.

I would find it difficult to believe these are his only victims. I don't know if there would be other murders, but I do think they will eventually find other robbery and rape victims. I wonder how many "trophies" he had in his possession and how many they have not found yet? Better check his parent's houses...

I totally agree. Also, New Jersey (not too far from him) has a lot of casinos. And, Las Vegas obviously (if he has ties to that area). I'm about 99% convinced that he has more victims, and I hope they come forward.

I would certainly check out any cases near Turning Stone, near his home.

I would love to hear from the victim who got away,if he said anything to her during the robbery. What kind of stuff did he say or was he silent. I wonder if he threatened to kill her if she put up a fight, was he unnecessarily rough, did he call her names,etc..
I'd also love to know what he was texting, after or before each attack. Was he just going on with his life as if he just had a cup of coffee?

completely agree, i live right near here, i don't believe there are anything close to million dollar homes in this area, certainly not the one he grew up in.

I think there's a possibility of more victims too. The girl that said someone had to pull him off of her, didn't that happen in high school. So, you think he was a good boy between that episode and the last one. Nah, I bet there have been other crimes. Maybe not to the degree of robbery or murder, but he hasn't been sitting on his thumbs.

As far as the texting, I wonder if he was texting his fiance', telling her how tired he was from studying/working and that he was on his way home. If he kept in touch with her then it would be less likely that she would think that he was up to no good.

And indeed the money is with the fiance. She's from Little Silver, NJ.

Little Silver: $114,555

Estimated median house or condo value in 2007: $684,318 (it was $301,100 in 2000)
Little Silver: $684,318
New Jersey: $372,300

Mean prices in 2007: All housing units: $761,719; Detached houses: $777,741; Townhouses or other attached units: $776,304; In 2-unit structures: $904,292; In 3-to-4-unit structures: $539,314; In 5-or-more-unit structures: $495,040

I feel sorry for her. She sounds blissfully naive and figured she was securing her future marrying a doctor. She's still in major denial but the poor girl.... everything she believed in was false.

I agree, I feel horrible for his fiancee' as well. I was looking at their wedding registries. They had expensive taste so that came from somewhere. Did you see that he is now on suicide watch because they saw shoelace marks on his neck?

It's easy to have good taste if someone else is buying the gifts. I hope the bride to be realizes how lucky she is to have escaped his grasp before it was too late.

I don't feel sorry for the perp, trying to hang himself :( I do feel sorry for the poor young woman who he beat, bludgeoned and shot to death.

Just because the fiancee owns a Vera Wang wedding dress doesn't make her a better person than the young woman who was murdered by PM, I feel.

She is still in denial according to reports.

The stunned dad of Philip Markoff’s fiancee said this afternoon his distraught daughter is still praying the Craigslist killing nightmare will prove to be just a bad dream.

“She’s still confident in Phil. Other than that we’re saying a lot of prayers
McAllister’s father addressed the press outside his home on the Jersey Shore. His daughter, a medical student herself at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences at St. Kitts, has not been seen outside her house for days.

The paper also states he has supporters that are rallying together on Facebook. "innocent until proven guilty".

Here's a link with his friend talking about the night she had to have someone pull him off...

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/04/22/2009-04-22_surviving_victim_of_craigslist_killer_.html

Here's another article about the same friend...

http://news.aol.com/article/craigsl....com/article/craigslist-killer-suspect/442968

SNIPPED: "...After a night out drinking four years ago, Morgan Houston says she found herself with her back up against a wall, telling a male friend to get off her. "I'm not interested in you, what are you trying to do?" she recalled saying...Markoff and Houston met as students at the State University of New York at Albany. Houston said it took another man to pull Markoff from her that night as he held her against the wall and tried to kiss her. But she said she blamed her buddy's behavior on beer, and they remained friends. Today, she's trying to reconcile her fond memories, the alleged "frightening" incident, and Markoff's potential link to horrific crimes...."

SCARY STUFF!

I think this guy kept it close to home. Meaning, only several hours from BU. Albany is only 2 1/2-3 hours away from Boston. RI into CT is an hour to 1 1/2. Literally, a travel hop. If he chose to go further South, as in NJ, I would think it would have been during college break. Atlantic City is over 5 hours away. Perhaps closer to 6.

Where I have read this guy likes to gamble, Foxwoods is only 1 1/2 hours away from Boston and Mohican Sun another 40 minutes or so. Last night I saw a news conference from CT police. Makes you wonder how far this guy worked his "thing". Have car will travel to where you know you can make a strike, eh?

SUNY is not the choice of "rich" kids, but it's an option that they have in upstate NY. There is Siena, Sage, and RPI. All within a 30 mile radius (or less) and off Route 90.

My entire family is in this area and I know it very well. :)

According to this,
a) the gun found in the hollowed out medical textbook in suspect's apartment matches the bullet in the victim's heart;
b) suspect's fingerprint was found on the plastic tie bound to the victim's wrist;
c) suspect's fingerprints were found on a railing at the Warwick Holiday Inn Express where the suspect is believed to have attempted a robbery.
d) suspect appeared bleary-eyed and disheveled when the reporter attempted to meet him at the jail where he is being held, and attempted to cover his neck from the reporter's sight (presumably to hide the shoelace marks from the attempted suicide).

Hmmm, can't help but wonder if the fiancee still believes that LE is still falsely accusing the suspect for their own monetary gain...

Don't forget St. Rose!
