SUNY is not the choice of "rich" kids, but it's an option that they have in upstate NY. There is Siena, Sage, and RPI. All within a 30 mile radius (or less) and off Route 90.

My entire family is in this area and I know it very well. :)

I should clarify a step further... It's not really the choice of rich, "academically successful" kids.
Cornell is less than 2 hours from Markoff's home town... It's a much better school and a lot more expensive then SUNY.
The reality is that if we are talking truly upper class kids (which we have pretty much established is not what the perp really was), they can go to school wherever they want (geographically speaking). Location is generally not a serious consideration. Why should it be? They have the means with which to travel.
My guess would be he either didn't have the funds or the grades to get into Cornell and as I said previously, money buys you into better schools.

According to this,
a) the gun found in the hollowed out medical textbook in suspect's apartment matches the bullet in the victim's heart;
b) suspect's fingerprint was found on the plastic tie bound to the victim's wrist;
c) suspect's fingerprints were found on a railing at the Warwick Holiday Inn Express where the suspect is believed to have attempted a robbery.
d) suspect appeared bleary-eyed and disheveled when the reporter attempted to meet him at the jail where he is being held, and attempted to cover his neck from the reporter's sight (presumably to hide the shoelace marks from the attempted suicide).

Hmmm, can't help but wonder if the fiancee still believes that LE is still falsely accusing the suspect for their own monetary gain...

After the shock wears off, I wonder if she will come out with some stuff herself that was odd.
Hindsite is 20/20........
After Bundy was arrested several girlfriends said he did odd things to them.
One woke up and he was looking at her private parts with a flashlight under the sheets IIRC. She thought it was foreplay thing until later and realized it was odd............IIRC

lol i didn't know all that! What a weirdo :waitasec:

I have way too many thoughts about this case and this guy.

Fortunately I think we all knew from the beginning he was going to be caught based on the pics they showed. There was no way someone wasn't going to see it and turn him in. I'm interested to know if they got tips immediately or if the forensic computer and cell phone investigation was the key.

IMO the motive was robbery to further his gambling addiction and the thrill of taking advantage of these women was secondary. If it was sexually based I think he would have spent some time obtaining services (I don't think he got any services?) before trying to rob them. Taking the panties as a souvenir is another way of degrading them. Choosing people on the margins of society who aren't likely to report crimes was smart (if you want to call it that), but he is a complete idiot when it comes to the use of computers, photos, and cell phone activity.

I am no longer feeling sorry for this fiance. She's had a few days to come to her senses. Now she just looks like a fool. Another case of the Anthony family syndrome? It's a set up? A cover up? The doorman did it? That email she wrote was ridiculous. Close your mouth and look at the facts. HELLO??!! You're a lucky girl.

I'm also pretty sure he has class issues. He probably grew up middle class to upper class for his area, but that's not "rich". His fiance may be rich, but I don't for a second think he comes from money (and I'm questioning her college grades since she's off to med school in St. Kitts!). He's probably jealous of what they have. Maybe it feeds some of his aggression.

One more thing, I see "innocent until proven guilty" thrown around a lot on WS, not necessarily on this thread. The presumption of innocence is a legal theory and NONE OF US are required to presume he's innocent for one minute. It's only in a court of law with a jury. We are free to say he's guilty all we want. And I'm here to proclaim this psycho loser GUILTY. :furious:

Oh, I forgot to add, I don't buy the suicide thing. Maybe Phil and his lawyer think it's a good ploy to work up the 'I'm crazy' defense. Disgusting.

I agree. SUNY is a far cry from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and even Cornell. While rich kids can go to school anywhere, just the fact that his mom was working at a casino says he's not rich.

I don't feel sorry for the perp, trying to hang himself :( I do feel sorry for the poor young woman who he beat, bludgeoned and shot to death.

Just because the fiancee owns a Vera Wang wedding dress doesn't make her a better person than the young woman who was murdered by PM, I feel.

just to clarify, i think it goes without saying that i feel terrible for the victim first and foremost. I was just commenting that i felt bad for the g/f or fiancee because in a way she was a victim as well. I never said that because she had a Vera Wang wedding dress she was better than Julissa, and quite frankly it offends me that you would put those words in my mouth.

But, in order to have the "i'm crazy" defense, wouldn't he first need to at least admit to doing it?

I REALLY hope this isn't heading for an insanity defense. He CLEARLY knew what he was doing, in my opinion.

Fox just reported that the ballistic tests show the gun/ammo found in his apartment are a match to those used to kill the victim.

Innocent until proven guilty? I would say the evidence already coming out in this case speaks for itself. There is no way an Insanity Defense could work here. He obviously knew right from wrong.

I do feel for his fiance. She played no role in his double life, imo. Her reaction appears pretty normal to me for a woman with her life and dreams just ripped out from under her plus having to face that her soon to be husband is a monster. One day she was marrying a med student and the next...she was looking at the ultimate betrayal. She didn't know this man at all. Her first inclination is to stand beside him because she can't see it being true. She was planning a wedding with her perfect man while he was out attacking and murdering women. As this slowly sinks in, she will come to terms with the facts. Give her a bit more time to go from bride to barely surviving. (I don't see a parallel with the A fam here.)

There is NO WAY an insanity plea will fly here.
The creep kept panties. Ugh. Sick.
He knew right from wrong...he hid the gun, right?
Nope. Not gonna fly.
I hope he spends every day of his life he has left in prison.
As for his fiance, I've about had it with her, too. I'm really sorry that he's a psychopath/sociopath/egotistical weirdo and she never saw it, but she ought to be glad she's alive. Geez.

I agree with what you said 100%. It was exactly what i meant when i said that i felt for her.

No, absolutely no parallel with the A family! This is a naive, happy young woman who probably only saw the best in everyone.
I hope she eventually realizes how lucky she was to get away from him and I hope she finds someone normal for a spouse.
