Four aircraft were tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to focus on a 23,000 square kilometre area about 2500 kilometres southwest of Perth.

The search planes set set off from Perth at 4am local time (7am AEDT) and it is expected they will take four hours to reach the search area.

The distance from Pearce to the crash site is about the same as a flight from Perth to Darwin. That is a lot of travel time each day. I think off the coast of Perth makes it is close to Perth, when it really isn't.

I wish someone would find this plane NOW! I can't imagine those dear family members waiting for news. And what's this about him making a call? I thought there was no cell phone capabilities on that plane! Sooo if the pilot made a call, did any of the passengers?

It was BEFORE they took off.

LONDON - The pilot of the missing Malaysian Airlines plane made a mystery phone call just minutes before flight MH370 took off

o/t ~ CARIIS, did you delete the old Google first? Last time I tried to install Chrome, everything got messed up so I deleted Chrome that same day but my old one Google was still working after that. Should it be deleted prior to installing Chrome? Or is Chrome supposed to be an addition? (I hate messing with my programs and adjusting to change - something's not right though.)

Bad weather hampers search for possible debris from missing plane

Low cloud and rain has hindered Australian efforts to find debris that may be linked to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight, with the captain of the first plane to return from the search zone describing weather conditions as "extremely bad".

Oh no! The other pilot returned? No ones searching? This is torture!! Not that I think the crews should endanger themselves!

I will admit I haven't clicked on the link yet - but when I read the headline I immediately throughout, they r making it sound so suspicious to feed their story (story of evil pilot), and the call will end up being to his wife something like , " oh I forgot to get the eggs like u asked me too...sorry....so u might want to pick some up in the morning."

Pilot made phone call from cockpit before take off - have we covered this? Surely it would be easy to find out who he rang?

Oops just seen someone else posted about this earlier.. struggling to keep up tonight, tired!

Thanks cuz I skipped a couple of pages so I'd be up with the peeps for a change. I hadn't read about the pilot's phone call prior to taking off. Haven't heard it mentioned on CNN though.

"It's windy, it's wild, the media are having terrible trouble with keeping their kits up," said photographer Bohdan Warchomij.

For someone who knows Australian slang, what does "keeping their kits up" mean?

If I d to take a guess I'd say kit=equipment. He's saying their having trouble keeping tripods, those sunshade things, etc up? Don't know, but that's the only thing I can think of. I wouldn't say it is generally Aussie slang.

Or he always calls her prior to take-off.

I think that the planes are going out in a staged manner, so that there is always a plane searching while the others are flying out/back/refuelling.

Though, having said that, they will suspend the search if the pilots are in peril.

It's crazy they have to spend so much time going back and forth. Could increase search time.

Unfortunately an aircraft carrier would take days to get there... they are trying not to waist too much time in locating the possible debris.
