My thoughts, exactly! There needs to be a stationary vessel where search planes can land, refuel, and take off. An aircraft carrier in the area would help expedite a more economical and efficient search. :moo:

It's crazy they have to spend so much time going back and forth. Could increase search time.

Do not know what time zone your in but as i sit here and enjoy this I am like oh its like another 4 hours after 9 since last night this is same as China and then I learn here lightening its just ........

The FBI is still working on uncovering the files that were deleted on February 3 from the pilot's simulator. The results may reveal more information.

If the airplane has not been found, the investigation is back to square one unless new evidence surfaces.

Just remember that not everyone writes dates the same way. That's September, not April - and while its still old it's not as bad as it first seems to people who write the date backwards ;)

Sun comes up at 6 I need to give my guys 4 hours to "get god d##n there" so here is what we are doing you all are pushing back at 130 in the morning.....so when the sun comes up you are there

any questions !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kyung L., reporter, is saying second plane delayed for takeoff due to weather.
First plane did take off. The search area is clear but Perth has bad weather at the moment.
Ships are scouring the search area back and forth using binoculars.

I have a feeling that this is the case too eh... will be really frustrating for everyone (families, investigators, aircraft manufactures and maintenance workers, airlines who operate the 777 and then last of all public randoms like us who are nosey!) to not have definitive answers and I am sure whatever is concluded the conspiracy theorists will have several good ones to sell.. but sometimes that's the way life is...

Yes, indeed. But your posts here have made the whole incident more comprehensible to the rest of us. I cannot thank you enough.

Aussie, Aussie, Oy, Oy, Oy! (My best friends from college live in Perth.)

If they do positively identify the pieces as having come from 370, I wonder when they would release that information? I mean, I am thinking first they would want to actually physically take out of the water and completely verify. And verify exactly what part of the plane it's from. Maybe they need some specialists to do that (figure out what part of plane). I believe it's only after that that they would actually release any news or have a press conference, IMO.

***also, take exact measurements so they could give to reporters.

From what I saw from last press conference, the Aussies will be prepared with all the detailed information like specific measurements when they have their next presser.

So I am thinking at least 2 or 3 more days?

Great question. I think we'll know quickly if it's not....like if it's made of wood or it turns out to be a huge glob of ocean bound trash.

They'll probably be cautious if it is. If they find the tail with Malaysia Airlines insignia on it though, you'd think they'd come right out and say it. I guess it depends on what types of debris they find and the quantity. They'll need to be pretty sure if they find random objects like cushions, seats, etc. not tied to specific people. I hope whatever they find is immediately obvious one way or the other for the families' sakes.

I wish someone would find this plane NOW! I can't imagine those dear family members waiting for news. And what's this about him making a call? I thought there was no cell phone capabilities on that plane! Sooo if the pilot made a call, did any of the passengers?

I would think passengers would be still in the seats if they start to float. Which after 14 days, is quite possible. Or the impact of the crash could cause the seat belts to come undone and they won't be with the seats. The impact can also cause the passengers to be thrown out of their seats.

I don't know if the seats would still be together. I'm guessing the impact of hitting the water would cause everything to break apart.

***WARNING COULD BE CONSIDERED GRAPHIC, DO NOT READ IF SENSITIVE***

Uummm, nothing will be left. Ocean beings are not vegetarian. Even if something floated, ocean birds are not vegetarian. If anything will be left, it would not be pretty to see what water damage does, and they would be unidentifiable, except through DNA from bones or teeth. Let's not think about it too much though. At least we can hope they were not aware due to the plane activity, and it was a "nicer, softer" landing than ground or fire.

You mean frustration over the seemingly lack of progress?
The spot being investigated is so far away from any shore that just getting there takes fours hours alone.
Husband is saying aircraft carriers take a long time to get anywhere. Since this isn't a war, he doesn't think one is headed there. Is this true?

4/9/2013 is 4th of September in international English (including Britain NZ AUS) and in other languages and 9th of April in American English, I think that's what Fruity meant?

ETA: on closer look at the link I see what you meant :)

America and Canada are among a tiny handful of countries that use mm/dd/yyyy, everywhere else puts the date first dd/mm/yyyy. I know it's a minor point and a bit off topic but as it can easily lead to confusion I am clarifying!

This article may be more than you ever wanted to know about recovery of bodies from water. But for those of us who like to sleuth, it is a good one:

http://www.dundee.ac.uk/forensicmedicine/notes/water.pdf

Basically it says a body first sinks, then it putrefies and gases are formed which change the pH of the body which then causes it to float. BUT certain things slow that down, such as salt water, cold temperature. It also said many times bodies in cold water oceans will never be found.

From what I've heard there is tonnes of media camped outside Pearce, but so far they are behaving themselves.

Oh yes, I agree.
After 14 days, there will be nothing left.
Sharks, sea birds, fish....they would have had a feeding frenzy.
Sorry to say it like that, but I don't think anyone is alive and I don't think there will be anything left of anyone.

Not to mention the sea creatures that would have eaten the flesh off everyone.

Canada will sometimes use the dd/mm/yyyy format and it gets really confusing.
Especially on food items. I always have to think for a minute to figure out what format they've decided to use :floorlaugh:

But for the most part, we use mm/dd/yyyy.
