Thank you, Brightbird! You are right, the satellite phones have been one of the many things we've dissected on this thread. There was no such service on the plane as far as we've been made aware. Although I am curious if as low as they were flying if they would be able to pick up any reception?

Now, everywhere I look I see references to the satellite phones. I recently posted two references from newspaper articles published today and here is another...

According to Malaysia Airline’s Business Class page, the in-seat entertainment systems include air-to-ground phones that also let passengers send and receive emails “midflight.”

Lol :scared:! From what I remember from past threads, the plane had the capability but it wasn't made available on this particular flight. I'll have to look for a link to back this up...

Great more debris sightings, but nobody can find it on the ocean. :banghead:

CNN reporting 122 pieces of debris found in one area???!!!!

Info from the PC: More than 122 "different objects" were spotted by a French satellite 2500 miles west of Perth. Described as "different sizes, some of them bright, meaning they could be solid or possibly metal."

(That was from the CNN reporter.)

--This is the 4th report of possible debris via satellite in this area.

Just tweeted: Civil aircraft spotted 2 objects--likely rope. New Zealand's P3 spotted a 'blue object.' https://twitter.com/AMSA_News

This is a mass sighting from satellite imagery...maybe it will be easier to locate during the searches. Apparently, 122 potential objects were identified, some 23 metres in length. Hopefully, they are in relatively close proximity which should make them much more visible for spotters on plane and ship.

One of the 122 pieces measures 70 feet. I hope nobody is holding their breath, though!

There are orange pieces (life jackets?) and metal color pieces. This sounds a lot more promising, I must admit.

Is there a link to the PC? I've been listening to Sky News Live for ages and it never came on - maybe we don't get it in Oz.

Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency (MRSA) received new satellite images from France that were taken on March 23. The images showed 122 potential objects in one area of the ocean. Some of the objects were as much as 23 meters in length. Some appeared bright, possibly indicating solid material. They were located about 2,500 kilometers from Perth. "This is another new lead that will help direct the search operation," said Acting Minister of Transportation Hishammuddin Bin Hussein on Wednesday.

ABC TV news just reported that the families of the Aussies missing on flight MH370 were in Federal Parliament today for a minute’s silence to honour their loved ones.

After the Parliament session, they were given a special private briefing by the maritime authorities.

Okay so I hate Tony. Loathe him. But I give credit where credit is due. He did the right thing today.

Ouch it hurts to say that. I probably won't ever say it again, but his words were good.

Moment in history right there. I have never said a good thing about him and will never say anything positive about him again.

I am 99.99% sure there is no mobile phone coverage in that very remote part of the Indian Ocean. As for Australian coverage, check out the map at the link below. Hope the link works for you. Change data to voice in the options panel. Telstra is Australia's biggest service provider, they rent parts of their network out to other companies. I'm with Vodafone which has limited range outside urban areas, but I can still call 000 (i.e 911) where there is Telstra coverage. The map shows that there are large parts of inland Australia that has no coverage, let alone outside Australian borders at sea. Mobile phone coverage is patchy when crossing Bass Strait by boat, a popular travel route from Victoria to Tasmania.

The civil aircraft has spotted two objects likely rope and the New Zealand plane has spotted a blue object. However, none located on further passes.
