Whoa! Is there anything in MSM re the Malaysian president resigning???

I posted this last night. It's an article that says the pm may resign. Don't know if it's fact or rumor.

Punnet. I learned a new word. Well, you could make a good nose or a couple of ears out of the blueberries. :seeya:

is this the ''big'' news???

sheesh

"Malaysian officials are contacting countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and France. "

Had to run of and cook dinner........ just noticed someone posted that the report that the pilots wife had left were debunked......thanks for that, I knew I had read it but did not take much notice of it as it wasn't really in any of the news reports..

..

Can a 777 be used to deliver a nuclear or biological weapon? I am a little worried about a tweet I just read.

There was a statement made or a rumor that all radar systems can't be turned on at all times because it is too expensive.
In the beginning I wondered if the plane could have landed in Vietnam but that something bad happened. Now, I don't think that's the case.

I don't think Vietnam shot the plane down though because it was a scheduled commercial flight going along its normal route as far as Vietnam was concerned (if they were even paying attention).

There haven't been any reports if ATC Vietnam connected or not (I don't think Vietnam ATC did make contact with the plane because supposedly they asked a pilot of a plane in route to Japan to do so for them). I'm trying to decide if I believe the story or not.

TWA flight 800 was a commercial flight going along its route. I think it was accidentally shot down by our government. Accidents happen.

Landed. If it had pointed more to a hypoxia event, I would say crashed. But they are very clear about the deliberate actions so it was someone set on flying it out of the area not to crash it, but land it.

Yes but just because someone is set on landing a plane they've hijacked doesn't mean they will. In most hijackings throughout history, the hijackers were unsuccessful.

Have you ever tried the elixirs in those tiny little bottles they serve on airplanes? (for medicinal purposes only, of course... :D) :drink:

When I was phobic of flying, nothing worked. Well meaning people would tell me. "Oh just take a sleeping pill. You'll sleep through the whole thing." Or "Judt take a drink. You'll be fine!" I didn't and wasn't. Flying felt like being horsewhipped. It was pure, unrelieved agony. I would've had to be on serious doses of heroin or been put under like Michael Jackson with anesthesia to be able to get through a long flight without losing my mind, at one stage.

It was interesting to note that almost all the people in my fear of flying course were professionals- doctors, lawyers and corporate bigwigs - people who are used to being in control. I also noticed that all of them had some form of anxiety in other areas of their lives.

Derryn Hunch can give you much better information than me!

The transponder is separate. I'm not an expert but from what I understand, the transponder is located in the cockpit. The ACARS has two parts to it. One
Is located in the cockpit, the other is in an electronics hatch outside the cockpit. In this flight the transponder in the cockpit and the ACARS in the cockpit were both turned off. The ACARS portion remaining transmitted the pings that let the military know it was still flying until at least 8.11am.

I personally believe that the pilot was such a huge aviation geek that he would have known about needing to turn both portions of the ACARS off. IMO someone else in that flight wasn't as knowledgable and forcibly took over. Well that's my theory tonight. I've had 3 others I was sure of today but have disregarded them all, so this one might be turfed soon too!!

Good morning all,

Maybe leaving the cockpit to switch it off was too risky for him for some reason?

For what reason? People don't suddenly turn evil.

No but most evil people hide their true natures for so long that some people are unwilling to believe they did something wrong, once they get caught. Like Scott Pererson.

Also, people can and do suddenly go crazy.

I really wish that the news agencies would get interpreters - I'm sure the questions/answers in Malay are of interest.

the one thing that is good coming from this (as per the news conference) based on a question and answer from the government that this is unprecedented and will change security measures in the future

Is that the transport minister in the middle? When he is asked questions his eyes are fluttering and blinking a lot. Sign of nervousness?

Thank you - so is that what a transponder is connected to or something separate?

You're pretty much right Fruity :)

They are two separate systems, transponder is a simple "switch" in the cockpit that can be set as different "frequencies" or "off" - it is in all GA registered and Military aircraft.

The ACARS System is totally different and would require a little more knowledge to switch off - and a good deal of forethought to have switched it off. It's not something someone would just do in a spare of the moment event... someone has put some thought to it.

It's not that I'm suggesting it's overly difficult, its more a case of most people would not have immediately thought of it without prior knowledge and again I don't believe a pilot in the heat of the moment would not have done this as a suicide thing when, if he was really *that* suicidal and wanting to make a point, he could have just pranged the plane there and then, rather than fly it on for 7hrs before crashing it etc..

I'm getting to the point with this whole case where I am reluctant to make any further calls on what may or may not have happened, initial posts back 6 threads ago sum up my position that is:

"I believe they know where this plane is, was and always have - military radar knew it and there are multiple systems on board that relay this information, aside from ACARS and the Transponder. They're playing games for some reason..."

"The USA diddn't spend $2Billion on each of their stealth bombers just to see a commercial airliner fly like a ghost through international airspace undetected"

"In a day and age where purpose built for silent operations and stealth aircraft and nuclear submarines go to great lengths not to be detected, but within minutes, can be - in a day and age where Kim Jong and his mates let off a few firecrackers in the back yard to celebrate another day of oppression and we know how many they let off and what type they were and what colour they were - They sure as hell know where an aircraft the size of a 777 that is flying in an area of growing military tensions around countries that are already super paranoid at just under the speed of sound is..."

Happy to answer technical questions re: aircraft, aircraft systems and general military capability's in the region - but I'm reluctant to come up with any solid answers on what "I" think may or may not have happened here... the situation is very dynamic now with the facts being reported in MSM either complete fabrications or based on what I believe are false to start with and are hence only going to lead to skewed answers....

Alert, but not alarmed ;)

journalist asking if anyone else on plane had flight training. They say don't have all background checks yet but looks like all passengers cleared

they say they are working and cooperating with all the intelligence agencies
