While I love your posts and the European insight, I have to respectfully disagee on this last point. I DO believe the men at the crash site did the best they could with what they had to work with.

Most of us have never lived in a poor, somewhat backward place. Many of us judge by what we see on TV. CSI, etc. The "real" world, which IS the "real" world for many people, is so much different from our pristine, politically correct, perfect way of doing things.

My hat is off to those who worked through the horrors, who withstodd the odors, and still managed to get the bodies on that train.

I believe that many thanks are due to the civilian miners and local residents who did everything they could. Maybe some of the lower rank soldiers too. But for the rest of the military, who had complete control over access to the scene, I think they did their best for themselves, not the victims. Otherwise they would surely have let in the national teams who could have helped, straight away?

Putin's under pressure at home. He's releasing statements in the middle of the night. It's connected with this, I believe.

'LONDON (MarketWatch) — Russian stocks slid nearly 3% on Monday, as the country faced the possibility of further sanctions related to the conflict with Ukraine. Marking a sixth day of losses....'

Thing is, there was/is so much confusion and propoganda, that we don't really know there were any national team waiting to get in. I've read post here that wondered where all these "teams" were. I don't know, I wasn't there, but I don't remember seeing anyone but the journalists, and later on, days later, some officials.

Can you give me a url, with proof, that there were "national teams", with credentials turned away?

Thanks.

This is making the rounds on twitter. It offers the context of the soldier holding up the teddy bear. I hope it's ok to post:

Perverted truth: How rebel mourning MH17 victims was turned into looter with trophy — RT News

Thank you for this.

I've been saying until I'm blue in the face (not on here) to people that you can not understand the actions of people on site by looking at a photograph. We provide our own context to the images and see whatever supports our own views.

I am not saying everyone on site has acted in a moral way or that looting or other such behaviours haven't happened, just that there needs to be proof of it before we make judgement (and not a photo of someone on scene holding an item!)

I am glad that this article has provided insight into this particular situation. That toy would surely be recognisable to loved ones and I'm sure the idea that it would be used as a trophy would make them beyond distraught.

The picture with the rebel holding the stuff animal is deceiving because it was done in front of journalist but if you watch the whole video you will see he puts it back down, takes off his hat and makes the sign of the cross. We have no idea what the rebel was saying to the journalist but it surely was not that he was taking the toy home to his children, which is what this tweeter may have been all about. I will see if I can find the video.

We've agreed Dutch request for air accident investigators at Farnborough to retrieve data from #MH17 black boxes for international analysis.

I have to agree. We can't rush to judgment in any of this.

I have to try and put myself in the shoes/boots of the rebels. Think of their history. Think of what they might have expected of "outsiders" coming in on the scene. I am sure there was much panic and distrust on their side and the need to think things through before they took action. Do I agree with their actions? No, of course not. But then, to paraphrase another poster, in a situation like this I would view it and respond based on my lens, which would be a far different lens from the ones these people see through.

I want justice all around in this horrible tragedy, but a rush to judgment and improper retaliation/sanctions would be another tragedy against humanity, IMO.

O/T but significant. CNN reporting all US flights to Israel halted due to bombing near Tel Aviv airport. Yes, the world is going mad!

The bodies of the victims of flight MH17 have been placed behind gates draped in sheets ahead of tomorrow's journey to the Netherlands.

IMHO Those gates have been draped with sheets and journalists cannot see what is behind them.
No doubt the bodies are being transported respectfully from the train into the former factory where the first investigation will take place, and where each body will be placed into a coffin.
Families not to worry.
