I HATED her opening statement. WAY too much technical info that should have been saved for closing argument. She waited until the last 5 minutes to paint any sort of picture. IDK that she was unprepared, more just terrible choices to use for an opening. IDK what the heck she was thinking. They should've used Hamid for opening.

Jurors are already learning about tower dumps and cell numbers. The State likely wants to get jurors thinking about this right off the bat. The challenge, as attorneys have told me, is to present this info to them with a neat bow. It can be confusing. #SieversTrial

(The way the defense is going, Mummert will have a hard time explaining:

  1. Why MS had an amount of cash money almost identical to the tax money owed..
  2. Why MS jumped the fence and was arrested in the backyard of his next door neighbor..
  3. Why CWW was paid $100 per month for his IT work (according to CWW) and not $600 (which may have been the reason TS and MS had argued , according to Dr P's newest testimony)..

Mummert talking about Taylor’s interview, leading detective Downs to a jumpsuit, and some latex gloves in a small pile on the side of the road.
Taylor was interviewed again in 2015 and doesn’t remember much. She has been paid from the Lee county sheriff’s office approx 25000$ for her testimony.
Carrie Kain making a statement about trying everything she could to gather evidence.
Nick Schudeman a Missouri police officer.
Dr. Thomas Coin performed the autopsy.
CWW his testimony in exchange for a plea deal. He tricked four of his neighbors into providing false affidavits for an alibi. He will say mark promised to pay $100k from life insurance.
$600 for computer work and $300 to install a surveillance after the murder is all he actually received.
The state will probably not show you the videos that CWW gave previous statements where he lies. OBJECTION. Sustained.

Defense Attorney Michael Mummert is talking about the different statements Wright gave to investigators. "On attempt number three Curtis says I struck Teresa three times in a head with a hammer," Mummert said.

Mummert is talking about the conditions of Wright's plea agreement. Having now had four months to prepare Curtis gives the narrative you are likely to hear and that narrative conforms to Dect. Lebid's theories, Mummert said.

Mummert is talking about what he expect Dr. Mark Petrites will testify on the stand. Petrites found Teresa Sievers body in June of 2015.

"Detective Lebid developed a theory early on then had the good fortune to find evidence and witnesses to corroborate his theory," Mummert said. Lebid came up with the theory that Mark Sievers wanted his wife dead for the insurance money, Mummert said.

Wright will tell the jurors he tricked and manipulated four of his neighbors to establish an alibi, Mummert said. Wright was only actually paid $600 from a check consistent with what he was paid for IT work done for the Sievers medical practice, Mummert said.

We believe that the state is going to try and offer witnesses after witnesses to show turmoil in the Sievers marriage, Mummert said.
 
Jury to disregard comments about bankruptcy.
Mummert talks about how there was TV show in the works for Teresa’s healing practices, and there was reciprocal life insurance on Mark as well. Teresa Sievers was worth more alive than dead. Mummert then says It’s is our position that MS did not conspire with CWW and JRR to kill his wife and he did not kill his wife.
Defense rested opening. Judge asked both sides to approach.

    Defense is about 25 minutes into its opening statements. Michael Mummert is telling the jury that Curtis Wayne Wright's testimony is unreliable. The state just objected as Mummert described the Sievers' family lifestyle.
