It was a chance phone call from Illinois that led two detectives to interview a person, Ross said. Investigators went to Missouri/Illinois three times during the Sievers murder investigation, she said.

"Mark Sievers is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit that murder," Ross said. Sievers is charged as a principal, which means he did not have to be present at the time of the murder, Ross said.
