His criminal history mostly involved stealing, so I think that would be where he is getting his money from if he is in fact out on a drug/alcohol binge. I also thinks its possible he was set up to be robbed or that if he ODed he may have been robbed and dumped. I really hope he turns up.

If he's still alive and using he is finding a way to get his drugs. His parents were aware he had relapsed on alcohol several times but not heroin. IMO I feel he also relapsed on heroin and lied to his parents saying it was only alcohol. If this young man is still alive he is doing a good job staying below the radar. And why leave his car??! Even if I planned on taking off in would want my car for transportation. Its another case where the puzzle pieces just don't fit.

Maybe people were after him for money that he owed. Or he met dealers on the highway for drugs and couldn’t pay and the source got pissed and harmed him. Sadly, I feel this won’t end well. I’m so praying I’m wrong.

If this guy is found alive, I will be very surprised. :(

This is a recap of David’s story

Could this be David? https://identifyus.org/en/cases/17128 Sure hope not. UID was found on September 05, 2017, in shallow grave, with no head. Not much information. Wheaton is just 37 minutes from Ellicott city....

Not a lot of info for this UID... Do we have a thread for this one?

This is so strange.

So I believe this is the same UID that’s being discussed in this article: Same date, location (in LE’s press release, which the article is linked to, the exact address of “11715 Orebaugh Avenue in Wheaton“ is used), and the weight (126 lb) match.

But then other details are so different. For example, the article reports, “He is described as a Hispanic male, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 126 pounds,” and “He has short, dark brown hair,” (but I thought the UID had no head):

“Montgomery County Police Release Photos, Ask Public for Help Identifying Homicide Victim Found in Park”
https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/...-Homicide-Victim-Found-in-Park-446858173.html

LE press release:
“Update: Continuing Investigation To Identify Wheaton Regional Park Homicide Victim; Photos Released”

Thank you for this. Indeed very strange all together. Stats and picture of this UID were already released in September as it seems and LE is quit clear about the fact that he was Spanish, 5'2" and had short brown hair, where in the Namus file there is different info (file created on 16 Oktober 2017)/ not clear info...Maybe the person who filled in the forms made a typo about that no head was recovered...but that doesn't explain the other info, hmmmmm.
Is it save to say that this UID is most likely not David?

I check the status of this case daily, pondering for answers. I have a couple scenarios, one the uncle helped get rid of his body after David and the girl partied on the wooded property and things went bad. Another is perhaps he wanted to leave, go away, do his own thing. His car keys were left with one of the girls, maybe she loaned him money and he left her the car as payment. I just don't buy she left him alone in that wooded area!!!

Good interview with his parents:

I so wish we had any clue on David’s whereabouts. This case makes me so sad. I can’t image the pain his parents and siblings are going through. I just don’t feel that he was the drop off the grid type. His eyes look like someone who had been hurt but was still a decenct guy. Just 1 little piece of info could turn this around.

'We have hope that David is alive,' family of man missing 3 months says at vigil

http://www.nj.com/salem/index.ssf/2017/10/prays_for_answers_in_mans_mysterious_disappearance.html

It's been nearly three months since 28-year-old David Smith disappeared after leaving his Pilesgrove Township home on Aug. 5.

On that day David Smith's parents believed David was moving out to live nearby with a coworker.

It turned out, the Smiths would later find out, that David had gone to visit a woman he had known since 2016 in Howard County, Maryland, west of Baltimore. That woman was busy and introduced David to one of her friends.

The family says from what they have pieced together, David went with the second woman to a rural property in Lisbon, Maryland, also in Howard County, where she left him on Aug. 6. That's where he was last seen.

“We pray for those who know more than they are willing to share. We hope you will soften their hearts and encourage them to speak the truth,” Robert Vanderslice, a Salem County freeholder, said from the pulpit in a video of the service posted on the Missing: David Gipson Smith Facebook page.

She said he had planned to visit a friend in Catonsville, Maryland, and in his last text message with his father confirmed he had arrived.

Is it me? But this seams to be just another story....or just media changing the story?

He stayed overnight on the 5th, no contact on the 6th, according to woman brought him to a property with nothing on the 7th. Where was David in between, what was he/what were they doing....? Big question mark!!! Huge red flags...this time not accounted for....

It is just the wrong date it says:

Sunday was the 6th
