What kind of businesses are close to the trail, for example are places like print shops and Fed Ex fairly close? speculation, imo.
''Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said that while his office continues to investigate the murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin, he would not be shocked if “future victims” are eventually connected back to the unnamed suspect.

“I won’t be surprised; I’ll be saddened as the rest of us will,” said Gahler. “But I won’t be surprised if we find other victims that just haven’t been linked up to Rachel’s case.”

It’s been one month since authorities found Morin’s body on a popular hiking trail in Bel Air, Maryland, and the suspected killer is still on the loose. So far, authorities haven’t given any indication the mother of five knew the person who killed her.

Police previously released Ring doorbell footage of a man they identified as a suspect in a Los Angeles home invasion, saying DNA from the Morin crime scene was also connected to the California crime scene.

Police have not released information on the manner in which Morin was killed. Gahler said preserving the integrity of the investigation prevents them from doing so.''

Okay thanks. I hadn't seen that, but the 'accomplice' sure looks pissed off when they slammed the door, IMO, so I am not sure where that theory came from. Edited to add: hopefully the Sheriff was able to put that theory that I don't remember ever seeing to bed.

Some people see a friendly goodbye, a fist bump, or handing off a small item, and others see an angry arm slamming the door shut.
The more I look at it I see all kinds of new things however I don't see the suspect wipe down the door handles as others have.

Adding comments from the Facebook Case Update posted upstream-
  • Suspect burglarized an occupied home
  • There was an assault, but not sexual in nature
  • Assault victim was a minor
  • LAPD collected DNA during the investigation
  • There is no video of the suspect entering the home
  • The arm shown in the video - LE has identified the person, they have no involvement in the crime
This doesn't get us any closer to answers, only more questions IMO.
  • Pretty ballsy to enter an occupied home.
  • What was taken in the burglary?
  • Why assault a minor, was he/she home alone? Am I imagining that at some point early on, LE said the minor was a female?
  • If there was no video of his entry, could the DNA be from an injury obtained while breaking in?
  • Sheriff's comment on the arm is as clear as mud - still no idea if that is the victim or another person slamming the door.

This makes sense to me.
Thanks for breaking it all down.

He must NOT have entered through the front door, unless if he did the footage was even worse than the footage he had already seen. I highly doubt he walked in that way invited.
Unless he was invited in the back door or garage. But that would not gel with HOT PROWL or Home Invasion unless he pulled a weapon made threats or shoved the minor to gain entry.
Did he demand money she had known so gave him the car keys instead?

What is important here is that we work the case diligently and we share with the public that which will help us bring this person into custody,” he said. “But we also have to look at putting a solid court case together afterward. (Authorities don’t want) this investigation jeopardized in any way.

Authorities have no name connected to the suspect and don’t know where he might be at this time. ...

I've been thinking about this CA case and thinking of possibilities. What if the initial crime was just the home invasion? What if they got DNA from that somehow.. maybe on a door or somewhere else in the house. Then there is the crime against Rachel and they get this DNA match in the system. So the police go back to the home where the home invasion occurs and they talk to them again and explain the seriousness with how this perp has now committed murder and there is a match.. maybe it's then that the people in the house report the assault of the girl. Maybe there was fear of coming forward before and it could be the initial crime reported was just a home invasion and maybe the police didn't have a sense of urgency because I'm sure in LA area there are many break ins, home invasions, etc. Maybe knowing that there is now a murder connected to this perp, it encouraged the victim to tell what actually happened in March. This is all just me thinking, nothing factual just opinions on possible reasons the initial crime in March wasn't seen as something urgent by a violent offender.

Is it common for LAPD to take DNA evidence and fingerprints in every Home Invasion case? I mean they should but I hear stories about how the LAPD refuses to take blood samples even after a car theft or home invasion it's extremely difficult for them to do so.

I suppose it could be possible or it could have been a rear door or window that was out of view of the camera.

I think breaking a window or entering through an open widow would be a lot easier! Do they have sliding glass doors that are easy to open by pushing or smashing?

I wonder if he may have lingered outside the home in LA before he invaded it, using or smoking some substance (drinking alcohol from a container, smoking cigarettes or marijuana, etc). If so, he may have left evidence of that activity (and that could even be where his DNA was collected from that crime scene when a sexual assault did not occur). And then the perp did the same in the area where RM was abducted and killed. Something like that could be the commonality between the two crimes that LE is talking about.

cigarette butts! empty container of beer, soda...peeping Tom situation outside the window before entering?
yes, I completely forgot about cigarette butts since everyone vapes now. but a vape pen, heroin needle, or crack pipe could also have DNA too.

I'm not sure. I was just offering an idea I had. I don't know what LAPD usually does or doesn't do. Without knowing exactly what the nature of this call was that night, it's hard to really understand it. Did they call about a break in, something stolen, something damaged, did they encounter someone, did they hear something? I think often a call comes in one way and ends up being something else. Maybe the report for exactly what happened was not published online. Maybe it was something terrible and the victim is a child so they didn't broadcast it, but why didn't they look for the suspect then? That is the big question most of us have about the initial crime. If it was called in as an assault on a young girl, then why was that video not shared then?

Oh these are great! I think most of us think of DNA at a scene and think blood or semen just because that is usually what is left behind if there is an altercation or SA and it's hard to hide these things if something physical occurs.

I know that RM’s body was found but did LE find any items of clothing belonging to her at the scene of her murder?

If they did could someone explain why revealing this could jeopardise catching the perp?
i attempted to censor the word “naked” in respect of others in this thread, however I just realised the word is completely not there in my last comment.

I’d guess that it’s a case of: answer one question and you get asked ten more, and conclusions are drawn from the point where you stop answering the questions.

The sheriff has repeatedly said they are protecting the investigation in order to present a solid case for prosecution.
Key details that only investigators and the perp would know have to be protected.

EXAMPLE- If the suspect knows they are looking for certain items, instead of holding onto said item to "relive" the crime - it would be destroyed.

I figured that was the case. its just that LE honestly haven’t revealed much information regarding RM’s murder.

I'm not sure if the man who found her body’s claims have been debunked but that’s all we have had to go off…ugh

thank you for this. I’m going to admit that I’m a complete newbie to this whole websleuth thing and I appreciate the information you have provided. However could withholding information like this hinder a potential tip that could quite literally solve the case?
