I disagree. Just how was Jaycee Dugard finally free? By someone watching this list and seeing someone with children. Of course in a dream world, but that is not reality, he was not in jail, are we not our neighbor's keeper?

I posted a link on the page before this one. It's an article by his ex-wife. He was molesting his own daughter and social services did nothing. They said since their was no physical proof of molestation it would be hard to prove.

She was posting in hopes that there was other victims out there that would step up. Victims old enough that a court/police would take notice, so she could get protection for her own daughter.

Yes, that is correct. If they murder a child, they can still receive the death penalty.

The way I understand it, they cannot get the death penalty if they commit any kind of sex crimes against a child.

The United States Supreme Court also ruled in 1977 in Coker v. Georgia that the death penalty cannot be imposed for the crime of rape of a woman.

The way I understand the United States Supreme Court decisions in Kennedy v. Louisiana and Coker v. Georgia is that the death penalty is unconstitutional in crimes that do not involve murder.

Regarding sealing juvenile records - When the offenses include a sex crime or a crime with violence, including arson, YES, I do believe the records should be available. You bet I do! this is where is all starts for the juvenile offender; why wipe out the first years of training? mho

Regarding the Aunt's dating history - I honestly don't know anything about her habits. Since this 30yo predator lived with his parents, my assumption is that many thought he was a 'safe' kind of guy. mho

I agree that someone should have called authorities about his being around children. You're assuming everyone knows that a sex offender who is living with mom and dad and free to do what he wants is prohibited around children. I'm not sure everyone knows that. Yes, someone should have called. Shame on the Aunt, the neighbors, the parents, friends and family for not taking that one step that might have prevented the murder of this beautiful child. mho

I've done background checks on all my neighbors. And I check the RSO regisry often. I have a drop dead gorgeous 9 yr old neice and a beautiful baby girl. It is my job to protect my daughter and make sure she is safe from the evil of the world. It is also my job to protect my neice when she is in my care 5 out of 7 days of the weeks. When we go to bed at night the deadbolts are locked along with the reg locks, I check all the window to make sure they are locked. I have motion light located on each side of my house, and 2 $40 walmart surveilence cameras, along with a walmart alarm that sounds if anyone opens the door. My phone is on the nightstand beside the bed and on the nights when my husband often works both my angels are in bed right beside me. I may not have a hi tech security alarm but I do what I have to to protect my family and myself. This aunt could have simply done so by cutting all ties as soon as she found out he was on the list and changing her locks. She failed this little girl along with the justice system. I have a thread on here about my neighbor being crazy. I can't move but I have done the most I can to protect my family. We just got a real nice video camera for X-mas, it captures 45 hrs of video, when not in personal use it will be added to our surveillence! I am just so angry right now with the aunt, the monster, the courts, this all could have easily been prevented if he was behind bars like he should have been!

I do not have any children, but I can tell you where EVERY sex offender lives in my area. I keep an eye out for the safety of area children (there's just one offender in my area, thank God). In my former neighborhood, a group of homeowners passed out flyers to ALL neighbors when an offender moved into our area. Fortunately, he quickly moved to another area! It worked (smiles)
As a former mail carrier for six years, I memorized all sex offenders on each of my mail routes. I kept alert to any suspicious activity, particularly areas where there were children. I watched the mail for the offenders to ensure no *advertiser censored* was being received (as much as I could tell by appearance, that is). I feel we are required to protect the children, God knows many parents are neglectful and have no dang clue. Ignorance is unacceptable, as far as I am concerned. :angel:

I am as furious with her as I am with him. I hope she is charged too. I am assuming this pig wasn't suppose to be around children and even though he is an "ex" the woman still put her niece in danger. She was this child's guardian and this is what she does?

Don't they know when they bring these pieces of feces into their homes their innocent children are like a pornographic buffet to them? They just have to decide which one to take and/or how many.

A woman is suppose to protect children. She is suppose to be able to have super human powers and lift a car when a child is under it because her instinct is to do whatever it takes to PROTECT CHILDREN.

A woman is suppose to go without so that her children may eat. She would do this without thinking twice.

And a woman is suppose to become an wild lioness if someone even hints they are going to harm a child.

Our instinct, our soul, our whole being, is suppose to move mountains to make sure our children are safe.

Thank you for sharing that blog! I saw that at least one other woman who met Leggs was deterred from dating him by reading the blog. What a great idea - as long as it can be backed up with some kind of proof. I'd hate to see a bunch of scorned women writing blogs like this just because they are pizzed at their BFs.

But this one...had all kinds of proof. And people wrote about Leggs from different stages in his past. (As long as they can be believed).

Dang dang dang....I just wish someone there could have saved Sarah's life!

Ladies, this is really simple. If you are doing drugs or drinking or make poor choices about your partner, use birth control. If you get pregnant, give your child up for adoption.

If you're single with children, do a background check on anyone you date before letting them into your home. If you can't, see above, give your children up for adoption or use birth control.

Children are not pets, accidents, fads or toys. Plan to go to jail if you have them and fail to take care of them.

Darlin: Thanks 4 the link to this. It broke my heart! The comments by those who know TJ were astounding too! Quite the record he has!
I had followed Joe's blog all day yesterday, he is well liked and respected in the community. Importantly, he feels the same as most of us re: Sex Offender Justice!
People in the community wanted to help search and I believe he was instrumental in the 3,000 that showed up this morning.
WS, as always, has provided great coverage also. As we read one another's posts, we see the unity amongst us. We seek justice! We are a compassionate group! We are ALL sick and tired of this crap! Tricia, I am writing to the FCC re: trucker network first thing tomorrow also. May I also suggest we send letters to the judge when TJ is assigned. I will post judge's name, address, email, dates and times if it is okay to post it on this thread? Please let me know. Together we can make a difference-this has gotten WAY out of control within our society. This SO is a real creep! He even molested his own daughter! Very charming and likable person (to gain trust, and it works easily for him). I am just sick about this.

According to thi article the Aunt KNEW he was a RSO!!!!! She is the protector of these children, and she should've put their safety first. I honestly can say if I knew someone who was a sex offender of any kind my children would never be around them. It is my job to protect them the best I can.

Ok as true crime sleuthers I think some of us are a lot more aware than most parents or adults. The fact is most average people do not do background checks on neighbors. The only way I know there are sex offenders in my hood is cause we receive a list in the mail every year.

To be honest with you, we've lived here for 3 years and I don't know any of my neighbors. I see them from time to time coming and going but I don't talk to them. I only know the teen girl next doors name cause her mom called out to her. We are not very neighborly. We don't have kids so it's not like we see them at school or anything. We are busy and don't really care about some strange people we don't know. We just aren't that friendly.

If sarahs aunt did know then it depends on how much she knew. I've dated ex cons and there is no way I had a clue as to where or how to look up someones record. Average people don't know these things. People tend to fall into like or love and go from there. Kids or not. Most people feel there is no way a killer pervert could be their boyfriend, father, brother, sister, cousin, neighbor etc. Most people do not think like us. Families make excuses ALL the time for ex con family members. This shouldn't shock us.

The laws should be more strict and yes parents have a responsibility too. They both go together. I do have issues with repeat offenders being free but I also have issues with an 18 yr old being classified as a sex offender for dating a 17ye old and the blatant gender bias too.

What a horrible tragedy. I was following the search efforts all yesterday until I went to my neighbor's for Christmas dinner. When I got home, my prayers were half-answered -- Sarah was found, but deceased.

I echo Tricia's comments and the comments of all Sleuthers who are just outraged by these monsters who walk among us and by the women who fail to protect the children in their care. I am so upset, I can't say much more than "God bless this little girl and her sister who watched that monster lead her away to her death." As for Sarah's Aunt -- I hope all the children in her care are taken away. And for the predator who hurt and killed Sarah -- I hope justice for him is swift, painful and deadly -- he deserves no less.

My understanding is the aunt knew, her uncle knew, the entire family knew, etc etc etc. The majority of the time that's exactly the deal in these cases. The caretaker knows and still brings these losers around the kids. These people know without having to research these perps and still brings them into their homes. IMO, anyone with kids shouldn't be dating an ex con. And in my case, I wouldn't date an ex con at all. Ick.

This poor girls aunt doesn't get a break from me.

Terrifying. Thanks for sharing this. It seems incredible that even after being outed like this he was able to stay under the radar -- suspect his admission of guilt for the "lesser crimes" (the self-confessed statutory rape) was a factor in his perceived trustworthiness.

I agree that laws need to be enforced but you are dealing with different states that governs laws. I guess the federal laws can be created and stiffened. IMO there are more pedos and SO out there than it was 10 or 20 years ago.

I love the tracking device but also for kids too, but there is a line between law enforcement and taking away personal liberties. I have no faith in giving the government more control over peoples lives. Criminals should be punished. Sex offenses should have tougher sentences but to what end? More jails? Over crowded jails? One solution tends to cause another problem.

We also have a drug problem in this country that is a part of the problem as well. Doped up perps commit crimes.

Has anyone stopped to think why are there so many perverts among us? I' m for serious parental control and termination of rights, forced sterilization if need be. I know this will never happen but a girl can dream. Yes there are kids born mentally crazy but I cannot help to think that a lot if these freaks are a product of huge dysfunctional families. More money and time needs to go to social services and education. There are many that think that reproduction is a right but I beg to differ. My way is draconian I know, but I think wveryone wants a quick fix but there isn't one. There is no easy answer. How do you stop someone intent on harming before they do it? If the have no previous record then what? The answer is you can't! You can try but it keeps on increasing and all the laws in the world is not gonna stop killer or pervert. They know they could be exacuted but that doesn't stop them.

I think that sex offenders should be treated differently than other "cons"...I do think others can be rehabilitated...I don't think that creeps who are sexually aroused by children can change...and I don't think "sociopaths" can change

I think that one huge problem is the understaffed and underfunded and wrong headed social services (or lack of such). This idea of "keep the family together" is sick when you look at these dysfunction motley families.

I think that "federal" laws regarding child sex offenders would be a good move

I personally feel that there are TOO many RSO's being monitored...ie, those who are true "romeo and juliet" cases...like a 21 year old guy with a 16 year old girl....sure arrest him but don't track him the rest of his life

with the "real" offenders/pervs/lizard people....track them forever
