"This city did not deserve this terrible assault on its citizens, on its peace of mind, on its sense of security," the governor said. "No city does — no state, no people."
Mills said the small state of just 1.3 million people "has long been known as one of the safest states in the nation."

"This attack strikes at the very heart of who we are," she added.

"All Maine people are sharing in the sorrow of the families who lost loved ones last night," Mills said. "Loved ones: normal people who were killed or injured while unwinding from a day of work, or while spending time with their family and friends, socializing."

Well, its at least good that the death and injury toll has been revised downward. Still very tragic and grossly unfair. I feel the need to point that out because its wrong for so many to insist on violating the rights of innocent Americans.

A tragic conversation this morning when I approached a woman here in Lewiston. She told me she woke up to news that four of her friends were killed. Another man tells me his friend is in serious condition at the hospital from a gunshot wound. This is the new reality in Lewiston.

and

"The bright shot was seeing individuals reunified with their loved ones after not knowing for so long. On the other side, the ones that are waiting and waiting and probably would never be reunified," he said.

Levesque described a scene of "silence" in Auburn after the shooting.

"The silence of just not knowing, that’s what they don’t say," he told CNN Thursday. "It will be with me the rest of my life."

BREAKING from CBS News: MAINE LAW ENFOCEMENT BULLETIN: Maine State Police is attempting to locate Robert Card as a person of interest regarding a mass shooting incident at Schemeagees Bar and Grille Restaurant and the Sparetime Recreation in Lewiston.Card is a trained firearms instructor believed to be in the Army reserve stationed out of Saco, MEAccording to law enforcement, Card recently reported mental health issues including hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard base in Saco. He was also reported to have been comitted to a mental health facility for 2 weeks in the summer of 2023.Last known to be operating a White Subaru Outback with a black bumper with ME plates.

I gather that Card bought a jet ski. Given that his car was found abandoned near a dock on a river, I hope someone asks whether that jet ski has been located. I'm also curious about how far one could get on such a craft.

In my state, if the hospitalization was voluntary and no charges were filed, the guns can be legally kept. They are only taken away if there is an involuntary psychiatric hospitalization and/or certain charges filed.

it’ll be close to 80 here in Boston today so probably about the same in ME. Next week we have some days expected to be in the 40’s. The weather in New England is pretty fickle and not much bothers us in terms of cold so hard to say if weather would be a deterrent for someone
