Watch live 9 a.m.: Oxford school shooting suspect back in court

The court session is expected to be mostly procedural, though new details could come out about Ethan Crumbley's planned insanity defense. The teen's lawyers announced in January that they would pursue an insanity defense, which paved the way for the boy to receive a psychiatric evaluation.

It is not yet known whether he has had that evaluation.

Is there a link to the live stream within that, which I'm missing?

Review Hearing:

People - The follow up supplemental brief speaks for itself.

Defense Counsel - not many changes since the last hearing. There is an update to the education portion.

GAL - The Prosecutor's memorandum says that it's the parent's responsibility to provide education. The statute says "other person in the state in control of the child." It's the Oakland County Jail's responsibility.

Corporation Counsel sent the GAL an email. It involved education plans that are available that will give him an equivalent to a HS diploma or a GED. The earliest implementation of anything to occur can't happen until he's 16 at the end of April.

He can't do a "regular" cyber school day until September because a head count for funding was already done.

If he got the Diploma equivalent or GED, he can then do some college programs.

The Conn Academy App currently on the tablet he can use to supplement.

Corporation Counsel is figuring out how he would be tested.

EC is thinking about what path he wants to proceed with, but the earliest for him to proceed with an education plan would be the end of April.

The Court: Presented from a Memo and the prosecutor's have been work with defense counsel to try to get an educational program.

There's no information for the Court to disturb the March 1 order and the defendant will remain in the Oakland County Jail.

Review hearing/Pre Trial in the next 30 days - Thursday April 21, 2022 at 9am.

Forensic examination has taken place, and they are waiting on the report. Defense counsel expects it to be another 45 days.

Who is responsible for getting accused Oxford school shooter an education while behind bars? (clickondetroit.com)

Psychiatric evaluation complete; No results for 45 days

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – The teen accused in the Oxford High School shooting was in court on Thursday for a hearing.

The court determined that the 15-year-old accused shooter will remain in Oakland County Jail and will not be moved to Oakland County Children’s Village.

It was also revealed that the psychiatric evaluation of the accused shooter has been completed, but results will not be available for 45 days.

Another topic that came up in court was the issue of the accused shooter’s education. Who is responsible for getting him an education while he’s behind bars?...

Judge refuses Oxford school officials' request to halt civil suit until criminal charges settled in mass shooting (detroitnews.com)

A federal judge on Thursday refused to freeze a $100 million civil lawsuit alleging Oxford school officials were negligent in failing to prevent the shooting rampage at Oxford High School that left four dead and wounded seven others.

The judge's decision came the same day that an Oakland County Circuit Court judge ordered that 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, the alleged shooter, remain in the Oakland County Jail for at least another month, rather than moving to the juvenile jail as his defense team has requested.

School officials had asked U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith to halt the civil lawsuit pending the outcome of the criminal cases against Ethan Crumbley and his parents, who prosecutors say are responsible buying their son a handgun and ignoring warning signs that the teenager was troubled...

Oxford Community Schools adding several positions as part of recovery plan (detroitnews.com)

The Oxford school district will create a three-year recovery plan and hire a recovery coordinator to address student mental health needs in the wake of last year's mass school shooting, its superintendent announced this week.

Ken Weaver, who was promoted to superintendent on March 4, announced on Thursday Oxford Community Schools has created several new positions, including a recovery coordinator and an executive director of student services and wellness.

The new positions are to ensure students get the support and care needed to heal, said Weaver, who had been deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction since 2014.

Weaver said the district is also adding two counseling positions to the high school and two family-school liaisons who will work with students to improve social and emotional behavior at the elementary school...

Plan to distribute $2M to victims of Oxford High shooting finalized (detroitnews.com)

A final plan to distribute $2 million in donations to the victims of the Oxford High School mass shooting will include more students and staff than an initial proposal that drew criticism from the community.

The initial plan would have limited payments for psychological trauma to students who were in or near a single hallway, restroom and one classroom where the shootings occurred, potentially excluding hundreds of students, staff and others who fled the building the day of the Nov. 30 shooting. Four students were killed and seven others, including a teacher, were wounded.

The new plan extends eligibility to students and staff in three dozen classrooms and to anyone who rendered aid or took "extraordinary action" to prevent loss of life, regardless of their location on campus...

What? Again?

Fat chance!

I certainly hope that the judge doesn't buy this latest baloney from the Crumbley's defense team. They must think everyone is stupid and doesn't recall that these two attempted to flee and did not turn themselves in as their attorneys advised them to do. This dynamic duo needs to be locked up until a jury determines otherwise. JMO

The prosecution will surely remind the Judge and everyone else they tried to flee!

Parents make emotional plea to Oxford school officials to address security (detroitnews.com)

Oxford — Parents of Oxford students and one survivor made emotional pleas on Thursday for improved safety measures inside Oxford High School more than four months after a Nov. 30 mass shooting.

Two parents accused school officials of failing to create new policies and procedures to make their children feel safe and said they were also angry that Oxford Community Schools hasn't hired a company to perform a third-party review of the rampage that left four students dead and seven others wounded more than four months ago.

Lori Bourgeau, a parent of an Oxford High School student and organizer of the Parents of Oxford group, said a lack of action by the district and school board sends the message that school officials are more interested in protecting themselves than students...
