IMO She was more interested in her phone than the welfare of her son.
And she has really changed. I thought I had remembered wrong how the parents looked after the shooting.
There's a text in evidence from JC to Kira (horse barn) 1.5 hrs after the shooting cancelling her horse lesson later in the day.
The gal sure has her priorities in order.

In that first bad audio video when they see EC for the first time and are directed to leave, I clearly hear EC lift his head and say, "Please stay here." Jennifer is pissed and says very angrily, "Why?" IMO it wasn't a "Why did you do this?" It seemed to be more of a, "Why should I?" It actually broke my heart. Dad seemed to overcompensate with the repeated "I love you." Interesting he didn't drive home that "We love you."

I don't normally acknowledge that I wish I didn't see/hear something. This is one of those rare moments.

The only thing I can think of is that she'll say she showed several people out of legit concern for her son, and she clearly wasn't hiding her knowledge of her son's troubles. She even told her boss that she felt she "failed" or something along those lines. She also told the farm owner that she was bringing EC that fateful day because he can't be "alone", proof that she was planning to follow the guidance counselor's advice. The defense imo is going to use all of this to try and prove she was a concerned parent, she just had no idea he was going to do what he did.
This whole episode—taking Ethan to the horse barn—convinced me that she had no interest in his welfare at all. She cared more about her horses. She made no effort to give him quality time and attention that he needed and deserved. To hell with the horses: they were well taken care of where they boarded. Ethan was in an emergency situation that required personal parental attention.

So, if defense is wanting to use this episode to claim Jennifer was demonstrating care for Ethan when she took him to the horse barn, that should backfire spectacularly.

emphasis by me

This jumped out at me. how very quickly she said I think maybe we need a lawyer. Not can we talk our son. Not is our son okay. Not we are obtaining a lawyer for our son. Not please do not speak with our son we are hiring him a lawyer. Simply I think WE need a lawyer.

Also, to me, it appears she wears the marital pants. she interrupts him several times to drive the conversation (IMO) and he seems to trail off sometimes and look to her as if to see if what he is saying is okay.

Last note, Jennifer is way too focused on scrolling through her phone for my liking. Your kid just killed schoolmates and you are scrolling your phone while detectives interview you? What is THAT?

ETA one more thing: Did Jennifer turn back to Ethan and say "I tried" to which he responded repeatedly I love you I love You I love you? Or was that Mr. Crumbley saying the I love you's?
She does wear the pants, you're right.

When she asked for a lawyer, LE's gloves were off and they were out to get them. Everyone is entitled to one prior to being questioned by police, and that's a good thing! But asking for one right after the police are desperate for information in regards to your school shooter son? They asked for the probe. imo

She was going to keep her riding lesson on the day they were called into school and planned on taking Ethan with her, was my impression. In the meantime, the shooting occurred.

That LE interview. Oh my. Both heartbreaking, and disturbing. Such a disconnect, imo.

Crisis is an interesting choice of words. I think the defense may argue that she knew he we depressed and she was concerned, but didn't think it was a crisis.

It'll be really interesting how she does on the stand. I really want to know the situations regarding the "is he home yet, I don't want him to do something stupid" and the no memory night.

Is the dead bird being brought back into play, or is that still off limits? Or has the judge not ruled on that yet?
The torturing to death baby birds video is off limits.
Along with the parent's drug and alcohol use.
Messy home photos too.

I do wonder if parents cooperated fully and spilled the beans in that first interview and gave up everything......if they would be prosecuted today.

I haven't followed any school shootings prior to this one (and very late in only the parents being prosecuted).

Columbine was the only one I was familiar with and the shooters killed themselves.
And Sandy Hook

Originally JC didn't have plans to take EC to the horse lesson

I don't think they'd have been investigated and prosecuted to the depth they were/are.
Their $500,000 bail each remains due to being labeled as flight risks.

I’m starting from the beginning and trying to catch up! Already saw the apology from defense counsel. Bad move imo. It just makes her look weak and jury needs to trust you and feel like you’re on top of things. I think McDonald bullied her into it. I doubt jurors thought about it over the weekend at all! The comment was in bad form, no doubt. But making a public apology draws unnecessary attention to it imo.

Listening to direct of the horse trainer now…

Please let me know if any testimony that’s not worth it! I can’t watch the whole day.

Ya think?

'Jennifer Crumbley tells cops after Oxford shooting: 'I really wish we'd have taken him home'

Even if JC took EC home on 11-30 it was no guarantee that he wouldn't have carried out his pure evil plan another day.
She would have had to have a "Come to Jesus moment" realizing just how mentally depraved and sick he was and had gotten him somewhere like yesterday to be evaluated along with finally taking responsibilty for her/his role as parents who have been neglecting his mental and emotional issues/needs for an obvious very long time.
We're talking years and years of individual and family therapy with no guarantees of a positive end-game.

Am I the only one that thinks JC making last minute plans to take EC to the horse farm with her on that fateful day is good for the defense? It shows compliance at the very least.

Is this what was said in the audio by EC and JC?

"Why? Why?" she asked her son as he sat in an interview room at the Oakland County Sheriff's Office substation in Oxford.

The video, which was played during testimony Monday, was filmed just hours after the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting. Seeing his parents briefly, the shooter appears to say, “I did it.”

I may be wrong. But that is not the "Why?" I hear from mom. Everyone please watch and report back.

No.
imo: It's called "too little too late" and it comes across as finally being scared after seeing at the meeting what her son has morphed into under her mothership role.
This is the same JC that had a frantic fit thinking EC was late from coming home from school (he wasn't) because she was afraid he'd do "something stupid".(text evidence at trial)
She also knew that the school counselor didn't want EC left alone because he saw suicide red flags and gave parents 48 hrs to get him help.

I heard EC mumble something and JC saying the "why".
If I'm reading it right the quotes in the piece claim JC saying "why-why" first then EC answering her with " I did it",

Was it you that posted did EC say to JC "please stay" and she answered "Why"?

I can't make out EC's audio and I tried to hear what EC said on a few different videos.

I did hear him say his weight, hair and something about clothes..I think.

Go back to the original audio you posted with the awful audio with the parents and LE. Can't hear much of anything, but then they take the parents into the room where EC is held. It's pretty clear to me that EC asks his parents to please stay.

ETA: And she angrily says: Why?

IMO It wasn't a why did you do this. It was an angry why should I stay?

No touch, No hug, no nothing. Dad was the only one that said
"I love you" multiple times as he escorted his angry wife out of the room.

So Kira, the horse trainer, seemed more concerned about getting the horses than anything else. She’s saying she was concerned about her safety/didn’t want Jennifer to come to the farm etc. But she seems pretty sympathetic in these texts. I realize she was 25 at the time but I can’t imagine wanting to engage with Jennifer RIGHT after finding out what her son did. I would be avoiding her for several days following the shooting. JMO

Try looking online for the "highlights" of each day of the trial, day 1, 2 and 3.
I wouldn't know where to start because Smith takes up so much time going in circles with each witness yet each witness has valuable information that the prosecution cuts to the case to get and/or to rebuke Smith.

Kari was put in a real tough position because JC contacted her first, and as Kari testified to she was in shock.
JC texted Kari 1.5 hrs after the shooting occurred to cancel her horse lesson. (scream)

Mind blowing that 1.5 hrs after the shooting JC's horses are on her mind and she takes the time to text Kira to cancel a horse lesson for later that day.

IMO, Denial-- she could deal with this other less important stuff (horse lessons, horse leg cream) on the side for awhile, instead of thinking about and feeling the nightmare right in front of her.
