A Life Stolen: Egypt Covington
Thanks, Lilladyj, that was a nice article!

I too am nonplussed over the case being stalled for so long. The ex-boyfriend still seems to be the only POI but I know that LE has to show probable cause in order to bring charges. I also know that it often takes time to build a case so I'm trying to be patient. I really thought Egypt's murder would be quickly solved but boy was I wrong!

Curious too is how Egypt's mother continues to believe the ex didn't murder Egypt but there may be more to that than meets the eye. MOO.

'She had the voice of an angel' - two years later, Egypt Covington's killing remains unsolved

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (FOX 2) - She was loved by everyone. She had a light. She had the biggest heart. She cared for everyone.

Friends couldn't say enough about Egypt Covington, the 27-year-old who was killed two years ago.

"She had a voice of an angel, she was an angel. She was the sweetest girl.," said Lesley Dixon, a friend of Egypt's. "The most amazing thing about Egypt is just how everyone loved her."

Along with the charity event is a commemorative beer back for a second summer. Arbor Brewing Company created 'A Girl Named Egypt' in honor of Covington. And it's out again just in time for July 19, which would have been her 30th birthday.

The family of Egypt Covington is calling for local police to step aside in order to have state police investigate her murder.

[Egypt's brother D’Wayne Turner] and his fiance Lindsay Brink have lost confidence in the Van Buren Police investigation. They said MSP is more than willing to step in, but the Van Buren authorities said no and that they have a handle on the case.

A protest will be held Monday where Covington’s niece will sing and call will be made for Van Buren authorities to ask for help to catch a killer.
Family of Egypt Covington call for MSP to take over investigation from Van Buren police

After three years there has only been a person of interest and no arrests. The family is now asking for Michigan State Police to help.

"Because know there could be more done by the Van Buren Police Department and we want to be heard," said Turner. "Because three years is too long."

In regards to this case, the Van Buren Township police would only say this is an "active and open investigation."

Egypt's mom said Van Buren Township police told her she's "messing up" the investigation and now only gives updates to Egypt's dad who lives in a different state.

Mom is also trying to compose 'Egypt's Law' which would give family members of victims more access to the investigation.

All this isn't exactly new news as the family criticized Van Buren Township police back in November 2019:

Van Buren Township Police have named one of Egypt's ex boyfriends as the suspect in her murder, but 2 1/12 years after she was killed in her own home, no one has been charged, and her amily is very critical of police.

Egypt's family spoke to 7 Action News Reporter Kim Craig hoping that Van Buren Township police will turn the case over to Michigan State Police.
Egypt Covington's family says piece of evidence was overlooked, wants MSP to investigate murder

In June this year, on the third anniversary of her death, Egypt's family held a rally asking for the Michigan State Police to get involved in the investigation. And it worked. MSP is now assisting the Township, who was the sole agency investigating the case for these three years - but her brother is convinced they should have full control and access to all the files, tips and leads.
...
Tips that Covington's family says continue to come in by way of a Justice for Egypt Facebook page with over 2,300 members. This family describes this entire process like trying to put together a puzzle without all the pieces and no idea what the finished product should look like.

"Now it's starting to make sense from other tips that we have coming in," Lindsey Brink said. "No one should have to go through what our family is going through."

Finally!!! Thank you for posting the news!

"They've had their chance. It's the state's chance now. They have all the resources needed, strategies and tactics," Egypt's brother Dwayne Turner said of Van Buren Township investigators. "When we first met with MSP we had asked them if they knew these names. They did not. Van Buren was very familiar with these names so we are just really curious why."

The Director of Public Safety with Van Buren Township didn't give any further details about who has been arrested. Michigan State Police also confirmed the two arrests but would not give any further details either.

We have to remember to point people to Egypt's case when new posters join WS and decide within days that a case will never be solved. LE doesn't just give up and stop investigating murders. Yes, cases go "cold" but LE has teams devoted to those cases also. Just so glad that answers are coming for those who knew and loved Egypt.

Thanks to everyone who kept her thread active and shared any time anything new was released!
