There are only 4 businesses off the top of my head on N. Grand Haven Rd that could have captured the footage. There is the strip mall next to the Exxon, which is on the corner of Sternberg Rd and Grand Haven Rd. If that's not it and the perpetrator was traveling north on Grand Haven Rd, there is a movie theater and two gas stations. I don't believe any of the other businesses would have had cameras. The gas stations are across the street from each other. There is a Shell gas station is on the west corner of Grand Haven Rd and Airport Rd and a BP gas station on the east corner of Grand Haven Rd and Airport Rd.

Right. There is Homestead bar and a Pizza Hut across from the movies too. But I cant imagine this guy stopping for gas or pizza or anything, so what business would have a camera good enough to capture street traffic?

Muskegon County Airport???

Grand Haven Rd is the road that crosses Sternberg right by the Exxon station. The Strip mall is at the corner of Grand Haven Rd and Sternberg Rd. There is a Speedway to the South and a Jack's Corner Store to the North, both at least a mile away but probably more. I am terrible at guessing distance. There are other businesses in between...a few gas stations, a bar, an industrial park. Which makes me wonder...could they have tape from a factory survellience camera?

The reporter did say the video was from North Grand Haven Rd. I don't know if that means the van was traveling west on Sternberg and turned right on GH Rd heading North or if the stretch of GH Rd near the industrial area is considered N. Grand Haven Rd and the van was traveling south. There is a Speedway at the corner of GH Rd and Pontaluna Rd. From Sternberg to Pontaluna is exactly 1 mile I believe.

Assuming he did head North from Sternberg, I would have to guess the corner with Jacks Corner Store and Shell would be the best lit area on that route. Unless he stopped at the Cinema to secure the van or something...pulled in the back of the parking lot maybe?

The airport crossed my mind. Do they have cameras posted on the runway?

Definately. I got kicked off the property when I was 15 because I climbed the fence to lay out in the grass between the runway and my backyard. Not 2 minutes later a couple of guys came rolling up in a Jeep and booted me back over the fence.

Also, deer get on the runway. I know they watch for deer and turkeys etc.

The reporter said the video was right around 11:15 and as you have indicated flutter, he was going North on Grand Haven (is there a N Grand Haven / S Grand Haven?) so it has to be within a relatively close distance of the gas station, it seems.

I'm moving around the area on google maps per both of your comments, fb and mGw. Thank you both.

I have only ever called it Old Grand Haven Road. It is probably 5 miles long (correct me if I'm off here) and runs between Business 31 (also known as Seaway Drive) to the North and Pontaluna Road to the South.

Assuming the van was traveling south on Grand Haven Rd, due to positioning of businesses and lighting issues, I believe that the only two businesses that could capture video would be the FedEx Store on GH Rd and Mt. Garfield or the Speedway at the corner of Grand Haven Rd and Pontaluna Rd.

WDIV hasn't updated their website article about Jessica, but on the 5:00 news there was a reporter at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) in Romulus. She said that the search for Jessica has extended into metro Detroit and that all airports around the state are on alert for the missing young woman.

Bumping this and note the bbm, as you locals discussed the Muskegon County Airport.

Do they run private flights? (Private planes?)

They also should have put up fliers at the bus station

My mind is so jaded, I never put anything past these perps. If he has a family he just might make a stop and create an alibi.

If this is a sophisticated perp meaning past crimes, nothing is out of the question.

I've never heard it referred to as North or South. But it is approximately 8 miles long. It runs from Seaway Dr to the North and ends in Ferrysburg to the South. It continues around a corner in Ferrysburg but changes names.

You are right. I forgot that it goes all the way South to Ferrysburg. I drove it every day when I lived in Spring Lake. Doh!

From the 911 call:

Dispatcher: Muskegon 911. Where is your emergency?
Caller: Um. I don't know if it's an emergency. I just got out of work. I'm at the Exxon station on Sternberg Road. There's nobody here. Um, it wouldn't allow me to pump gas. I just walked inside, there's nobody. There's a car here. There's another car out front. But it's just very suspicious why there's nobody here.
Dispatcher: Did you yell or anything or...?
Caller: Yeah, I hollered 'hey' and walked around the building. I don't know.
Dispatcher: It's still open, right?
Caller: Yeah, when you walk in, the bell goes ding, ding, ding. The cashier is supposed to be there, but I don't see anyone.
...
Caller: It just seems strange. I come here after work. I come here all the time for gas.
...
Caller: I'd hate to the anyone come in and grab and run, you know.
Dispatcher: If you feel comfortable staying there, I do have an officer notified.
Caller: I'm just concerned that nobody's hurt.

**Note: The caller specified he gets out of work at 11 p.m.

I posted last night that according to the Exxon Mobil website, the location where Ms. Heeringa worked had an ATM. I wonder if police were able to obtain any surveillance footage from the ATM.

You know who else has an ATM? The bank next to Subway on the same corner as the gas stations down there. And Homestead probably has an ATM. And I bet Jacks Corner Store has one either inside or outside. And isn't there another bank down by Pizza Hut?
